- MichaelThis is an official IRS number, but they won’t call from it. It’s only sent on letters from the IRS to bypass the generic phone tree. It doesn’t give you any better chance of actually talking to someone at the IRS though.
- Caller: IRS letter
- Call type: Valid
- sherry replies to GLORIAThank you for your post. I got the letter too. I also moticed the CA location. It asked me to pay tax when I was nine. I will see what I can do to report.
- Sherri replies to PhrunkGot a fake letter asking me to pay tax when I am 9, accumulated over years I didnt have an income. Called this real number, stopped the call when it asked my ssn. Thought it was fake number, but it is actually real. thus IRS asks for SSN during the automatic part of call.
- Diana molina replies to wareythat number is for scam!! I got a letter from them and signed by the director of the irs and look and the director of the irs is no longer the same! - Dale replies to Look it upI clicked on the link and--too bad!--it returned an Error 404. Seeing that the link was posted in August of 2023, I suppose it may well have become dead, but I have received 2 weird, identical snail-mail letters supposedly from the IRS, and calling 800-829-0922, which the letters mentioned, and finally arriving at #5 on the phone tree after a long list, I quickly got an answer--very pleasant lady. (By the way, the LTR number given at the top of the letters returned "No Result" when searched for on the IRS site.) The letter had thanked me for my inquiry of Mar. 20, 2023 and among other less relevant things, notified me that they needed an additional 60 days to send a complete response on the "action they are taking on my account," which sounded sinister. The lady reassured me that a lot of copies of this letter had been sent out due to some computer error, I owed nothing, and said to ignore it. But my mind is still not at rest, because if this was a phishing letter, it succeeded.
