- anon replies to bonnie| 2 repliesWrong! This is not one of the IRS hotline numbers!
http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-Businesse ... ll-Free-Numbers - DaFoxNEVER accept a call or any form of a message from someone claiming to be the IRS at face value.
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be with the IRS, STOP!
Ask the person for their employee badge number and the reason for the call, the person will acknowledge your request and fully comply IF they are a real IRS employee. If they do not comply or demand money and threaten arrest, THEY ARE NOT FROM THE IRS!
Once you have that information tell them you will call back on an IRS office phone number.
See:

From:

You receive a phone call or paper letter via mail from an individual claiming to be the IRS but you suspect they are not an IRS employee …
Phone call:
Ask for a call back number and employee badge number.
Contact the IRS ( http://www.irs.gov/uac/How-to-Contact-the-IRS-1 ) to determine if the caller is an IRS employee with a legitimate need to contact you.
If you determine the person calling you is an IRS employee with a legitimate need to contact you, call them back.
Letter or notice via paper mail:
Contact the IRS ( http://www.irs.gov/uac/How-to-Contact-the-IRS-1 ) to determine if the mail is a legitimate IRS letter.
If it is a legitimate IRS letter, reply if needed.
Report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration if the caller or party that sent the paper letter is not legitimate. - anon replies to BONNIEAnother liar. If you owe taxes, the IRS will MAIL you first, asking you to set up a payment plan or pay the balance. They do NOT call you first!
- Virginia replies to anon| 1 replyIts not listed on their website because it is the levy department of the IRS. But this is in fact the IRS.
- taxprofessional replies to MelI have contacted the IRS on behalf of clients several times, and I can tell you that yes, generally the IRS will contact you via mail. However, if you do not respond or never receive the notices because you have moved, your case may be turned over to the collections branch of the IRS, and they will call you from this number. IT IS NOT A SCAM! Respond or have additional penalties levied against you.
- Alexandria replies to Buddy| 1 replyYou guys never answer your phones and people are doing as far as publishing case studies about the inefficiencies of your organization and you're going to be this aggressive about your customers failings? haha please... 1/5 calls not answered. 8 min wait times. I've tried to call over and over again 45 min wait. Soooooo, what now I get your CP504 because you're disorganized and inefficient? Absolutely criminal.

- Carla replies to AlexandriaYou can thank your CONGRESS for this mess. We can't do the work without the resources (meaning enough employees) to handle the workload. Our staff has been CUT by approximately 75%. We are doing everything we can to meet customers needs, but we're only human and run by CONGRESS.
