- jfTHIS IS A SCAM.
I was told during the first call that my number must be in their system by mistake and would be removed (did not give SS#). These calls come into my work #(odd) the second one 5 days later.
The helpful Mr. Webb would not give me any info and had no other suggestions for resolving the issue. If you want my money and are legitimate, you will have another way for me to get it to you.
I did not tell them I had already had this conversation with another attendant last week - she said my number being there was a mistake. I ALREADY CALLED the real IRS (info online, see for yourself) and I HAVE NO CASE. THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM.
After 10 min talking in circles and another 5 on hold, he came back to tell me I should go to a local IRS office. I told him my experience there and divulged that I had been through this once already with another attendant - he said she made a mistake and did not take the phone # off the list in all places.
I know that nothing has come in the mail for me or my S.O. and we are on top of the taxes, we have no issues/owe nothing. I was curious and tried to get more information out of the attendant but got nowhere.
Seriously, if you owe $ or are worried you owe $, don't do this over the phone.
Dear IRS: I haven't moved in years and you know where I live. Send all love letters to my house please.- Caller: Identified as IRS
- fred| 2 repliesthis is not a scam! i think the irs needs to do it different how they ask for your ssn when u call back but i called the irs number at their web site and asked if the number was legitiment and they lady that answered said yes it was a legit number for collections. i repeat this was from the irs.gov website.

- ya right replies to JeremyBS to that call. I bet this guy is on the scam telling everyone it is legit. Don't fall for this. DO NOT GIVE THWM INFO ON THE PHONE FOR NO REASON AT ALL.

- Seattle CallerThe answer is simple. Call back the number given, give them ONLY the telephone number and perhaps the case# if needed. THEY should then be able to tell YOU who they are trying to contact. If THEY do not offer the next piece of information then hang up. Think of it if you had answered the phone. Who are they going to ask for, how do you know they are trying to reach you vs. the person who had your phone number prior to you or someone who gave an incorrect number. (I have yet to reach anyone at that number since they called and insisted I call them back by 8pm and the call came in at 6:47pm on a Friday.) If they refuse to identify who they are looking for, tell them to remove your number from their calling list and if they refuse, call your phone company and report the call as harassment.
- suzy85| 1 replygot a message on my machine, I called back a few days later around 7:45 pm they finally answered the phone around 7:55pm. I gave the referance number and the man on the phone said he did not have that number and asked my name so I told him. He then asked my husbands name and I gave the first name then asked for my social... I gave it... then asked for my address at this point I was getting uneasy with the questions. I then said what address do you have on file seeing as I had just moved with in the last couple months. He said he could not give me that infomation so I just humg up. I hope I didn't give out to much information

- CatherineI received a prerecorded message from an 'unknown name, unknown number' at 8:01 last night, Friday, and did not pick up the phone because I do not answer unidentified calls. I, as others, was told by a recorded message that I must call back before the end of that business day, their office hours being 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday. I was also given a case number. Thanks to my brother, I learned I could 'Google' the phone number, and, as he predicted, I encountered all the above responses. My old-hippie mentality makes me suspect that the messages above, encouraging making the call back, were sent by scammers, or, worse, the IRS gestapo. All the trustworthy sources with whom I have spoken assure me that any communication with the real IRS is always preceded by a written letter. I suspect that if that machine really needs to speak to me, it will call back during business hours. You can be certain I have no intention of dialing that 'unknown name & number.' Why would I?
- I just got the call too replies to LisaGuys if you check the IRS.gov site you will find 800-829-4933 not 7650 (last four)scary..
- Former SoonerReceived a msg on my 'cell' phone like many others; call back number, case number; when I tried calling back it would ring several times, pick-up, but noone there. I think this might be a scam as when I filed my returns I didn't use my cell phone number - I used my home #.
- Owen NohmonneyC'mon, people, it's a total scam.
Do you notice how all of these calls are messages? That is because they are not sure of your name, and they need you to call back with that info.
I received a call at my work from this number. Conveinently, they called after work hours, although the IRS would know that it would be my work number.
I know that I owe no money, and it's just a scam. - ihopenot replies to wasiscamedI did the same thing. I too am worried that I might have messed up. Let me know if anything turned up for you. It turned out that they were looking for someone with a different social and I was cleared.
- K PriceLeft a message asking for a return call between the hours of 8 am - 8 pm. Also left a case number that I should use when calling, however the first thing they ask for when you return the call is your social number or your ein number. The Woman I spoke to did give me her ID number but sorry folks, today that's not good enough. I will go to the local I.R.S building and give them that case number to see if anything comes up.
- KP replies to eliamReally, since when has the IRS only tried to reach you by phone? I've never had them call me, even in the past when I did owe taxes so I'm not buying it. If I owe them any money they will be sure to send me a legitimate letter telling me so, which will also give me the option to come in and talk about it. If they do freeze my bank accounts they better be ready for a fight. I pay all my taxes and I don't owe them anything so why would they call me? Next question is why don't they already know my social security number...remember THEY CALLED ME....not the other way around.
All I can say is if it quacks like a duck it is a duck. - KP replies to onthephoneI'm with you on this. I instead when to this website http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=108342,00.html and called the other number they had listed. 829-3903. I've been holding on now for 10 minutes but I will continue to wait until I clear this up. I didn't get any notices in the mail so I am assuming that they are looking for someone else since they didn't call my name.
- Curious CynicThis is a scam. Never, ever give out your SSN over the telephone.
The IRS never calls after hours. Hello, it's the federal government. Do you honestly think civil servants work one more minute than necessary?
To get the real IRS telephone number, go to their website, http://www.irs.gov/contact/index.html- Caller: Says IRS
- ServerI received this call while I was at work, waiting tables. It was about 6 p.m., and the number was listed as "Unknown." I thought it was from a friend who had used *69 to prank me, and wasn't surprised when a voicemail was left. I called the number, and when I was told to input my Social Security Number, I hung up.
The really interesting part is that I had just gotten the new phone number a week or so before, so I hadn't listed it as a contact number on any of my tax forms. Seriously, if the IRS is going to contact you, and they have your new phone number, surely they already have your Social Security Number. They don't need you to use your phone to send it to them.- Caller: Unknown
- brokeI was given this number by Bank of America, after my accounts were frozen. Do yourself a favor and call.
- SiobhanThis IS the IRS! If you have defaulted on a payment arrangement or did not file, then they will give you a courtesy call before they take the next step which is garnishing your assets.

Federal and State Levy Programs
Levying your federal payments through the Federal Payment Levy Program (FPLP)
Federal Payment Levy Program (FPLP)
Levying your state tax refund through the State Income Tax Levy Program (SITLP)
Under the State Income Tax Levy Program, we may levy (take) your state tax refund. Currently, this only applies to individual state tax refunds, but may include business state tax refunds in the future. SITLP matches federal tax delinquent accounts against a database of state tax refunds for states participating in SITLP. If your state tax refund is levied, the state will issue a notice advising you of the levy. The IRS will also issue a notice, after the levy, offering you the opportunity to appeal the levy. The IRS notice will NOT be issued if you previously received a notice of our intent to levy that advised you of your right to a hearing. The state and IRS notices refer you to call (800) 829-7650 or (800) 829-3903 for assistance.

- newmsI got the call last night. I will never answer an "unavailable or blocked or private" again. I am paying IRS for taxes from 401k withdrawal. I had another phone number 866-897-0177 and a very nice lady helped me. All they wanted was a Dr. note regarding my disability and a copy of my 1099. I will fax tomorrow. I still will not give my SS# to anyone over the phone. The lady I talked w/ said she didn't blame me. So take this for whats its worth.
