I'm in the same boat.  I have Comcast service and called and talked to them about this.  The answer that I received is that as soon as your number becomes "active" it is automatically available to the public; which means telemarketers.  You supposedly have to "un-publish" your number if you do not want to receives these calls.

Got a call from 18008452074 asking for someone same siriya. They called on my new number that I had just received a few days earlier. I told them they had the wrong number and they asked me to confirm my address.  I told them to reveal their business name and they refused unless i told them my address. I told them they are trying to scam me and I asked not to be called again.  The woman on the line told me I have to reveal my address or else she is going to call everyday.  I kindly told her to **** off then I was hung up on.  Tommorrow when she calls I plan on giving her the address to the police department.

i just added myself to the txnocall list there should be one for each state you live in.  look up 800 no call list on google or state and it takes a month but then you are taken off telemarketers lists for 3 yrs.  it's free signing up online.  that number called me today so i looked it up online and see you guys having problems too.

I just got Comcast phone and this number called a few times when I wasnt here--I finally answered and the guy said it was the "Fraternal Brotherhood of Fallen Police Officers" and was asking for a donation--yeah, ok, sure, take my routing number...no.  But yes, Comcast did sell it to them, I believe...

I just moved into my new place, and got had 6 missed calls from this number on my first day at my new place.  I finally picked up on the 7th call, and they said they were the local police department soliciting for money for policemen injured in the line of duty.  I told them I wasn't interested, and hung up.  They've called 8 times in the past 2 days, how we do stop this??

Same as above, day we moved in, charter digital service bundle...caller identified themselves as collecting for policeman's bulletproof vest fund.  Asked simply for $20-$30, when told we were students he said that the situation was common and that most students were typically giving $5 could he get our information.  Find it hard to believe that these communications providers aren't selling our info, unless the contractors they have as installers are selling it.  No way the providers could monitor that.

I just moved to a new apartment a little over a week ago and I have been getting 5-7 calls a day. I got privacy manager turned on and now this number is showing up. They don't ever leave messages. Before they asked for a Mr. or Mrs **** and just like someone above, I am not married. I have hung up on them in the past and they keep calling.

I have an answer for you folks. The company is one of those sweepstakes clearinghouse type rackets. They get their leads from new hookups, which would explain why it's everyone who just got their service. I have a feeling many of us joined up with ATT SBC, or one of their parent/child companies. All I had to do was politely (and I stress politely, phone service people can be absolutely evil about this sort of thing if they feel like it) request that I be taken off of their call list, and not to have my info sold to another company, as many of these organizations do.

    P.S.
It might be worth a shot to tell your phone company not to sell your information to other companies.

You are right, Essidus. I have AT&T Uverse.

I tried to block this number and it said "That number is a private entry." so I am not sure if it worked or not.

They call twice a day from 1-800-845-2074. They say that I am listed in a drawing for people who own a Visa, MasterCard, or Discover card. Then they ask if I own one of those, and what the number is. I have told them I am on the Do Not Call registry and they hang up. If I could find out the company name I could report them, but all reverse sites find nothing. If I call the number back it rings forever. If anyone has been able to find out the company name please email it to me at tl29palmsgirl2000@yahoo.com.

     Will
    to STOP these calls:
call them back at 18008452074. tell them to stop calling and they will take you off their list. they explain that their calls are automated and will automatically hang up after 2 or 3 rings (but due to a response delay, you might hear more than 3 rings on your side); if you pick up after 3 rings, you will get silence b/c the other side has already disconnected.
they also suggested that i tell my service provider (comcast) do put me on a "National Do Not Call" list. the other (more complete) alternative is to unpublish your number.
