They have just started calling & leaving messages over this past week (non-stop).  A guy named Steve Rogers, ext. 2266.  But, I do believe he may have messed up because one time my caller ID had this #:

214-774-0630 <-- I reverse searched it & it says that it is a cell phone!!!

So, if anyone is having a hard time getting through, maybe you should try that number!  :)

He can call all day & night, I NEVER answer my phone!  Good luck with that one, buddy.  Try sending me a letter in the mail, because I don't scare & I don't care what he has to say.  My bills are paid.

I am glad I read this site though.  Good luck to everyone.

    Laura,

First I would ask why you personally are so "sick and tired" of the folks that do not pay their bills. Has this affected you directly in some way, does someone owe you money and you have not been able to collect?

Second, I wonder if tyou have ever been in a position where you have suddenly lost your income and have been unable to make ends meet. For your sake I hope you are never put in this kind of situation, because it can be very stressful.

Many people end up in these situations through no fault of their own; such as a sick family member with mounting medical bills, and/or a family member who has been laid off or otherwise lost their income.

Many of these people have tried everything to work with the folks they owe money to, but are unable work out a satisfactory arrangement with them.

My advice to  you Laura, is that you walk a mile in someone elses shoes before passing judgement upon others.

Laura is spreading misinformation. AGGERVATED's cousin has the debt, not AGGERVATED. It's illegal to hound a debtor's relatives to collect on the debt.

We have received several calls from them. First indication that this was a scam? The automated voice said that our business was called "slash slash P (business name)" (in a standard Windows computer voice, classy choice, guys). Claims our business owes ATT Advertising solutions $3,000. We've never advertised with ATT, but just to be sure, I called them. They said we've never advertised with them and don't owe them anything.

Check the source of the supposed bill before paying these scammers anything!

How can one individual be so FULL of themselves ?  You need to get off your high horse, dear.  People are out of work because a few lawless individuals in Wall Street decided to play fast and loose with other people's money.  Now every else is suffering.

You have no idea why these people are in the situation they're in, and for you to claim that it's "ALL THEIR FAULT" that the economy is in it's current shape only further outlines your ignorance & self-righteousness, which usually go hand in hand.

Looking at the comments here, it appears most of these people are complaining about being harassed for debts they don't even owe, as well as the usual slew of shady and even illegal collection practices.  I sincerely hope that you are so secure in your employment in these troubled times that you can remain in your ivory tower; judging everyone else to be inferior.  Sad, that it gives you comfort.

In the mean time as long as you're dishing out advice for everyone, here's some for you:  GET OVER YOURSELF !

My sister recd a call from these people for my ex-husband of eleven years.  He used her number for an emergency family contact.  He lives in another state living another life.  They don't have my info and keep harassing her and calling her home multiple times daily.  They leave multiple messages on her voice mail as well.  If we had his info other than what state he lives in which she has given them she would give it to stop the calls.
I will give her the FCDPA info and the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY that was mentioned in previous messages.

Laura, you need to open a business before you tell people how to run theirs.

If you can predict the economy and never have to worry about it turning, then you shouldn't ever have any trouble.

73% of small businesses in the US are having some trouble right now, even more in some areas.

So If you actually have some constructive advice, then please share, if it's attacking people that are struggling, then go find a hobby until you turn at least 25, I'd bet you're not even that old yet, but seem to know it all.

    Thanks for sharing.

They called this morning, did not identify themselves, and left no message. I don't know, why they called, if they are a collection agency, I don't owe anyone any money. It's the second time, though, they called a few weeks ago, but we NEVER answer non-identifiable calls. We're listed on do-not-call, but it seems to make no difference to some people.

I just got this telephone number.. these people keep calling for some WH Phillips Fine Jewelry... um that's not me... I pressed 0 to speak to somebody to try to get my number removed... after holding for 5 minutes it eventually disconnected... I called back to ask to be removed telling them that this is a residence and I've never heard of that business so let's hope they actually did remove my number... UGH... do they not research who they are calling to make sure they are harassing the correct people??  Have they not heard of running a skip trace?   What's worse is I have an infant son who the calls keep waking up... grrrrrrrrrrr

Not all collection agencys are real, if you do not know it they are shady groups to try to get money from people who do not owe it, for example.  My parents are old, a collection agency like this one said they owed $2000 from an old bill not paid over 10 years ago.  They theatend them saying they would lose thier Social Secuirty and so on.  So since they did not remember they set up a payment schedule, Later they told me about it in passing, I looked into it and it was THIS COMPANY.  And I found out they did not owe anything and I had to hire a lawyer to have them stop collection money not owed to them and cease and disist any calls to them.  The lawyer found out that this company goes threw sites and looks for people in a certain area and by their age, calls them up and threatens money.  A real collection agency will send you notices, then you can ask to see the proof, if they can not supply any proof, do not pay and call the authorities.  NEVER deal will a collection agency, only deal with the company you origninally owed the money.  Collection agencys are low love, blood suckers that deserve to die.

Having years of corporate law experience in human resources/collections/judgments/creditor law:, my suggestion: SCREW COLLECTION AGENCIES.  Let them bring you to court, if they can, let them try to obtain a judgment, who cares: if you really have no money.  As my law school civil procedures professor always said, "you can't get blood out of a turnip."  Just check your local state garnishment laws for the maximum amount creditors can obtain.  In many states,it's just 10% !! If you have several judgments, they'll have to get in line.  If you're smart, use an LLC or other corp entity...creditors can't touch you.  Look at our great American corporations for guidance.  They rack up the debt and then file under the appropriate Federal Bankruptcy Chapter. Creditors most times get nothing....boo hoo.  Be smart Americans!  You see in the USA, there are no debtor jails unlike other countries. Keep your cash hidden. Fight these scumbags by ignoring them.
Lastly, use a sophisticated caller ID/call blocking IP telephony service if these dirtbags bother you with telephone calls.
