Breaking two FTC Telemarketing Laws.

(1) The FTC Laws governing telemarketing "STRICTLY PROHIBITS" telemarketing calls on Sunday and require all calls be limited to Monday thru Saturday between 8am & 9pm. Of course the legit marketers will obey this law while the criminals don't care about any laws.

(2) FTC Laws prohibit telemarketing to cell phone numbers.
NOTE: There are exceptions to this one, for example if you already do business with the company calling (ie your auto insurance company can call to solicit you for another of their services).. or if you have provided your cell number to the marketing company, for example if you register for one of those VACATION GIVE AWAY SCAMS and you use your cell number on the entry form.

Back to my case...

So how did they get my number... Okay, they are already breaking the law by calling on Sunday, so I can only assume they have no problem breaking other laws... they are probably using an UNMONITORED RANDOM AUTO DIALER (aka ROBOCALL) Computer Program... yep they are illegal too (well except for the real criminals, the politicans)...

By the way....

DO NOT Call them back from your home or cell phone, they can see the number you are calling from EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE A BLOCKED OR UNLISTED PRIVATE NUMBER.... once they have that they can claim you called them first which gives them the right to call you.

Caller represented that he was my gas company - Consumers Energy (CE) and could save me money I was entitled to if he could get info and enrole me in a program.  He told me get my  last bill then he asked for my POD number and asked how much gas we used on the last bill.  Thought that was kinda funny because CE knows how much I used.  I pressed him for the name of his company and he finally told me he was with Lakeshore Energy.  I asked for his tx number and he gave me 800-919-8021 ext 484.  I told him I would get back with him after I checked things out. He wanted to know how I was going to find out and I told him I would talk to CE and search the internet. He said the CE wants all their customers to find a new gas supplier but CE would continue to provide the pipes to deliver it.  He said he could connect me with a CE representation to confirm everything (Probably his boss in next cube). I ended call and then I called CE and they told me that they have heard that alot of customers are being calling about this and that they couldn't do anything about it and gave me Lakeshores real number 888-200-3788 to see if they would take a complaint (ya right).  So I searched and guess what I found out......slim balls.  Lakeshore will be hearing from me but doubt they will do anything..... probably making lots of money from unsuspecting people including seniors that can't figure out they just got screwed by deceptive telemarketers.

Every phone number I have is on the "Do Not Call List". I am intentionally NOT giving my number hear so you cannot use it as an excuse that I asked yu to call. What I am doing is telling you that you had better make sure you NEVER again call anyone on the Do Not Call List, because if I get a call I will report you and you face a BIG FINE.

Now they're representing themselves as "Vista Energy". Seems to be a new name every week.

The sales rep identified himself as Michael. I'm also on the do not call list, but didn't seem to matter to them.

boy, christina chris sure back pedaled and hung up on me when I said I'lI think this is a scam and I'm contacting the state attorney general. I called michigan gas and reported them and gave them the # they never heard of her or 800-919-8021 ex247. It's a shame, I'm sure someone is getting taken by these scum suckers!

I love this site, I am so glad I found it.  I too have had this nyumber on my caller ID a number of times in the past weeks.  These people are a pain. Hey Jared, if you are reading this - STOP, I am on a do not call list for a reason!!!!!

unfortunately, these calls are exempt from all call lists.  just cuss at them.  they like that.

Always recieve calls from 'CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER' always with diffferent numbers. Today, it was 800-819-8021. I want to catch this a**sshole.

They have called my home residence at times as late as 9pm frequently. I finally answered and told them to remove me from the call list, the man on the other line chuckled and began to offer me whatever they're peddling - I said "I'm not interested in ANYTHING, remove me from your call list" - he chuckled again and then disconnected the line without a word.

Actually, you're BOTH partly wrong. From the website (as of June 17, 2010), your number is permanently on the list UNTIL it is either disconnected or reassigned to another person, at which time it is removed from the list. (See actual text below):

"Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became law in February 2008. More than 157 million phone numbers are on the National Do Not Call Registry.

"Under the Act, the Federal Trade Commission will continue to remove telephone numbers that have been disconnected and reassigned to other customers. Consumers can delete their telephone numbers from the registry at any time by calling 1-888-382-1222 (TTY 1-866-290-4236) – the call must be made from the telephone number they wish to delete."

These guys have been harrassing me every day and providing a number of 800-210-9011.  After threatening to report them to the FTC as operating a misleading and deceptive campaign, apparently they figured they could keep calling and give a separate number.

However, their employees aren't quite intelligent enough to pull off this caper as the recent caller inadvertently started to leave the number I recognize above all too well.  Complaint filed with the FTC and filed with Dominion Retail (1-888-284-3558) or any other company they claim to represent.  If others experience the same headaches that we are, it will discourage this practice rather quickly.  I encourage anyone receiving these calls do the same.

Also, consider filing a small claims lawsuit in your state - there are some pretty good penalties one can collect against companies utilizing these practices.   A default judgement will easily pay for your day off from work.

this caller was from lakeshore energy savings and wanted to save me money on the cost of natural gas for my home said they were  licenced witht he state of michigan.
