Received a text, from Wells Fargo, saying that my cell phone number is now registered for "Send & Receive Money". Then it goes on to say "didn't register this number? call 800-956-4442 Reply HELP SRM for help".  the details on the text says -

i got hit with a text mesage while driving through central California, I think they have some software the picks up phones in a certain area, and texts the numbers out. I did not call because I have never registerd my cell phone to send and receive money with WF.

Just called Wells Fargo-this is a legitimate number of theirs that they use for transferring funds. Sometimes someone gives them THEIR number wrong and therefore YOU get the call. It is NOT a scam.
IF you get a call similarly-call WF fraud and they will run down who SHOULD be getting the call or who has your number listed by mistake.

Yea, it's definitely fraud. I don't even have an account with Wells Fargo and I got an email claiming that my account was closed due to suspicious activity. What a joke....

came from Wells Fargo about a Bill Pay question.   I did not have a Bill Pay question???

I keep getting small checks in the mail from Wells Fargo. One said it was for Mothers Day for $7.00 and just got another one today for $9.60.  No explanation of what it is for.  The contact number is 800-956-4442.  I believe this is a scam. I only have a Home equity line with them that is in dispute.  I think this is a ploy to try and get my banking info.  Has anyone else have this happen?

This phone number is registered in Columbia, S.C.  and is someones vanity line trying to collect on debts from a wachovia's wells fargo. Young man's name is ...., I can't remember, but I can hear little girls giggling in the background.

It is Wells Fargo. If you go to their site it has this number listed as a contact #. Anyone who thinks otherwise is paranoid or just plain stupid

STUPID? What planet do you live on, I just got an e-mail saying Bill Pay Payment was sent to  Flextronics International Ltd in the amount of $1,314.37. I not only do not have a Wells Fargo account, I have NEVER had a Wells Fargo account. WHO's Stupid Now Know It All.

Do you really think they would send the same message to all these people too.

Its the wells Fargo corporate exchange office, meaning a manager calling you directly. It's not their incoming number, but an outgoing trunk line, I work for wells TIG.

They called my cellphone twice today...I don't have a Wells Fargo account....never had one and never will..

Its a fraud. Dont pay attention to anyone saying that this is not a scam because they work for the SCAMMER!!!!

REASON: Who would go on random number sites just to claim a number is legitimate... these people have lots of time on their hands because they are trying to steal your money!!!! SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!!

Best bet is to call the number back after they hang up ask if they had called because This number belongs to Wells Fargo Bill pay. If some one is spoofing the number then you'll get to talk to some one at Wells Fargo, BUT DON'T answer if they call you, just call the number back and see how they answer the phone

I have received the same message several times, telling me money has been transferred into my account.  First off, like many here, I DONT HAVE A WELLS FARGO ACCOUNT! So that alone will tell you it's a scam.  I called Wells Fargo and they confirmed that IT IS NOT A WELLS FARGO NUMBER. These scammers are setting up fake websites with the telephone so you think it's real, AND they are posting in this site saying that it's real to mislead people.

The phone number is legitimate.  It is the online banking phone number.  It is listed here:

However, just because you receive a phone call from this number doesn't mean it is from Wells Fargo.  It is very possible that the caller ID is being spoofed.  Wells Fargo will not ask you for your full Social Security Number.  At most they will want to verify the last 4 digits of it.

I received an e-mail (not a phone call) saying that my password was disabled because it was entered 3 times incorrectly.  I verified this with Wells Fargo.  They suggested I change my user name because it was a common name.  Of course I'm a little on edge now....

However, there are several negative posts on this thread saying 800-956-4442 is a scam.
Legit negative posts are written by people because of an error, perhaps their number is incorrectly listed on someone's WF account.
Fake negative posts are written by scammers who are trying to sow confusion that 800-956-4442 is a scam number.

Since CallerID numbers can be spoofed  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caller_ID_spoofing :
1.  If 800-956-4442 calls you, NEVER give any info away because it can be a scammer spoofing 800-956-4442 to your CallerID. Get whatever info the caller wants to give you but do NOT give any info away. Not your SSN, not your DOB, not your account number, not time of day. Then HANG UP.
2.  If YOU call 800-956-4442, then it's perfectly safe to identify yourself to WF so they can transact your business.

The KEY DIFFERENCE lies in who calls whom:
If 800-956-4442 calls you, NEVER give info away.
If you call 800-956-4442, it's OK.

Legit negative posts can also be written by victims of scammers. Scammers call and try to phish info while spoofing a legit WF number to victims CalleID. If victims call the number on their CallerID, they will reach the real WF and everyone could be really confused as to what had actually happened.
