This is a legitimate number, called Chase, they sent me there when I called the main Chase number.  They did not ask for any type of overly personal information, it was fine.

I got a robo call from this number. It was Chase telling me to activate my new card and that my old card ending in XXXX is set to expire in a week. It did not want me to activate at this number, but the number on my card. I have no doubt that this number is legit. I also got a text from 95686.
I wonder why they sent me a new card because the card I just got 3 months ago expires in 2015. They possibly got hacked and are sending out new cards???

I got a text from 956-86 saying my debit card was about to expire. The text gave me a number to call to activate my new card. (My mail goes to a different address, so I still have to confirm if I actually have a new card waiting for me).

About half an hour later, I got a call from this number (800-978-8664). It was a voice recording that used my full name and told me to hit any number to continue. I stayed on the line (was actually looking the number up to check for fraud) but did NOT press anything to continue.

When the recording replayed, it just said: Your debit card expires on August 8th. Please activate your new card by calling the number on the back.

    Then it hung up.

Obviously I can't say for sure, but I feel like this is legit. A scam call would have said something scary about my account and then insisted I call back. Remember that Chase Bank and Chase Credit are two separate institutions. My card was put on hold once due to suspicious activity (my own purchases), and no one at the Chase Bank could help me. In fact, my card didn't even come up as having any problems! It wasn't until the guy from Chase BANK called a guy at Chase CREDIT that they were able to fix my card!

So if you speak to Chase Bank about this number, there is a good chance the person on the other end is just going to see that the number isn't in their database and say, "yes sir, yes ma'am. this number isn't chase. of COURSE I'm going to report it." Because if they inadvertantly tell you that the number IS chase and then later you get scammed, it might bite them. But that does not mean the number isn't legit.

That being said: NEVER give your info out to anyone. The only number I trust is the one that comes on the back of my credit card. Otherwise, I'm going to Chase directly. I do not do phone transactions, and I don't think you should either!

I got a phone call from 800-978-8664 and when I called the number back I didn't get a good feeling so I called CHASE directly. As it turns out, it really was Chase Debit Fraud Prevention calling me. My card was compromised so they closed the account and reissued another debit card. If you don't feel comfortable answering the phone call, call CHASE directly to confirm.

My husband says chase called about a fraud charge, call this number.  So I do she asks my debit # so I don't give it to her.  I call chase from the # on my card.  I give them my debit # they say no fraud charge, no call about this card at all. So I tell hubby who says too late, he gave them our debit # and address.  so i call chase back and explain that and say we need a new card or account or something and this time he was like oh, well if they checked your card it wouldn't be on there, and asked to check my husbands card #, which I didn't realize was different.  He was able to verify there was a fraud charge and they did call but it was on my husband's card #, not mine.

This number is not listed on the website under "How To Report a Fraud".  I would question it and not give out any info.

This actually a genuine chase number, but I still called the number on the back of the card to be safe (do the same if you're as paranoid as I am). I asked them about the number and they said it was their fraud department.

Oh yeah? YOU would have to provide account credentials for 800-978-8664 to pull up your account and recite "every bit of purchases I made within the last 24 hours" so you gave away your account credentials to a scammer. Since 800-978-8664 is *NOT* on Chase's list of phone numbers  https://www.chase.com/online/services/phone-numbers.htm  you should have *FIRST* called the appropriate number from that webpage or from the back of your Chase card. It's irrelevant whether 800-978-8664 is a Chase number because you can call a legit Chase number from that webpage. Why risk calling a scammer? Only scammers want victims to give info when scammers come calling or to call fake-Chase numbers back.

True, but then you would have to give them your personal info to identify yourself as the true owner of the account, won't you? You wouldn't want Chave to give out your account details to anyone, would you? BINGO! YOU'VE JUST GIVEN AWAY YOUR ACCOUNT INFO TO SCAMMERS. This is exactly how you get PHISHED by SCAMMERS -- call up fake-Chase numbers and give it all away.

This number 800-978-8664 is NOT listed on Chase's website  https://www.chase.com/online/services/phone-numbers.htm  as a legit contact number so DO NOT call this number if you need to contact Chase. Like all banks, Chase tells its customers to call legit Chase numbers from TRUSTED SOURCES (back of card, bank statement, website, phone book) and NEVER FROM UNTRUSTED SOURCES like 800notes. There is NO PROOF that 800-978-8664 is a legit Chase number except for allegations from anonymous postings on an anonymous forum like 800notes. Allegations are not proof. Only SCAMMERS want you to call FAKE-Chase numbers and give away your personal and account info.

    1.  CallerID is *NOT* a trusted source for legit WF phone numbers.
    2.  If 800-978-8664 calls you, DON'T answer or give away any info.
    3.  NEVER call 800-978-8664 back.
    4.  If you need to call WF, use a number from a TRUSTED SOURCE (back of card, bank statement, website, phone book)
