Scammers perpetuating this scam CANNOT give up on asserting this number is a legit number for Chase (and it is NOT). They will spin a web of lies and even give out good advice like call the number on the back of your Chase card but they will *NEVER*NEVER*NEVER* give up on asserting this FAKE number is legit (and it is NOT) because they need the victims they call to believe that victims are talking to the real Chase (and they're NOT) and give up their ID and account info (and victims should NOT).

I got a call from this number and did not answer as I was out of town. I also received the below email from chase. I believe this is legit as the below is not phishing for info:

It has come to our attention that your Chase debit card ending in xxxx may have been compromised by an unknown third party unrelated to Chase. For the security of your account, we will need to cancel this debit card and send you a new debit card with a different number. You will receive your new card in the next 7-10 days.

If you notice unauthorized charges on your account or have additional questions please contact Chase Debit Card Fraud Prevention at (800)978-8664 or you can call the number on the back of your debit card and ask to speak with Debit Card Fraud Prevention.

Some Chump is wrong because the email composition is trashy. A big bank like Chase that can afford actual writers and whose writings are parsed by their legal department would never use language like "compromised by an unknown third party unrelated to Chase". An "unknown third party" *IS* by definition "unrelated to Chase" so to use both is redundant.

I just received a letter from these folks and I sent over a scanned copy of the letter for investigation by Chase.

Folks, some of these are scams, and some are not.  Never give someone you don't know or an automated message your account details.  I received a message tonight from 1-800-355-5265 on my home and my cell.  I called back with "reference number" they provided but when they wanted me to select the make and model of my car I immediately hung up.  I called the 1-800 number on the back of my Chase card and got transferred to the fraud unit who confirmed they did call me and noticed unusual activity at Walmart and Sams on my debit card in cities four or five hours from where I live.  Interestingly, I was at my local Walmart and Sams near those same times but used a credit card and not the debit card.  Chase stopped the card and is issuing a new one.  I am trying to reach the 2 Walmarts but their finance person won't be in until 5am tomorrow ... be safe folks. I did note, however, that the Chase representatives failed to ask the security code I had placed on my account.  Not sure yet if I will be closing my accounts as I have repeatedly asked for them to put a security pass phrase any time anyone accesses my account and they keep forgetting.

Oooh, good SCAMMER post! Peggy Sue wants to "prove" this number 800-978-8664 is a real Chase number (and it is NOT) by linking it to ANOTHER *FAKE*FAKE*FAKE* SCAMMER NUMBER 800-355-5265. She wants to "prove" that Chase's fraud department uses many toll-free, publicly unverifiable numbers that are not listed on their website to call their customers to confirm transactions (and Chase does *NOT* use publicly-unverifiable numbers to do that). Now how do I know 800-355-5265 is another *FAKE* SCAMMER NUMBER? Easy! This is a legitimate number from Chase to alert you that your debit card may have been compromised. I checked with the customer service representative. To be safe, always dial the customer service number on the back of your card to reach a representative directly.

I got a text, it said my debt card was compromised that they were sending me a new one.  I called chase and they said this 8664 is not theirs.  That it is a scam

Chase will not contact users like this.  Don't give them any info.  They are calling my house now, so I reported them to fraudulence at Chase

I also received a call this morning from the robo voice from this number saying that I had fraudulent charges on my chase account. I was instructed to call back this number with a reference number I was given. I did not call this number back after reading these posts and decided to call the chase number on the back of my card. The woman I spoke with let me know that there were no fraudulent charges on my card, my account had not been flagged, and they have not sent out any texts or calls regarding my account. She also informed me that many other people have also called about the exact same issue and IT IS A SCAM. DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER BACK. You should either report it to chase or just ignore it.

This is a legitimate Chase number.  I called and they verified.  Just call Chase and confirm for yourself

I got a text email and a call from this number in about 5 mins, which is consistent with chase fraud alerts I have previously dealt with. Just call chase to be sure if you're iffy on this. The number also did not ask for any info it was just a recording to inform me of my card fraud activity.

I contacted my chase branch and they confirmed that this is a legitimate fraud prevention number for chase bank.
