- anonymous replies to ScarlettScammers perpetuating this scam CANNOT give up on asserting this number is a legit number for Chase (and it is NOT). They will spin a web of lies and even give out good advice like call the number on the back of your Chase card but they will *NEVER*NEVER*NEVER* give up on asserting this FAKE number is legit (and it is NOT) because they need the victims they call to believe that victims are talking to the real Chase (and they're NOT) and give up their ID and account info (and victims should NOT).

1. SCAMMERS post LIES on 800notes to convince potential victims that this is a legit number (and it is NOT).
2. CallerID is *NOT* a trusted source for legit Chase phone numbers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caller_ID_spoofing
3. If 800-978-8664 calls you, DON'T answer or give away any info.
4. NEVER call 800-978-8664 back or ANY bank number supplied by a stranger.
5. If you need to call Chase, use a number from a TRUSTED SOURCE (back of card, bank statement, website, phone book) - Some Chump| 1 replyI got a call from this number and did not answer as I was out of town. I also received the below email from chase. I believe this is legit as the below is not phishing for info:
It has come to our attention that your Chase debit card ending in xxxx may have been compromised by an unknown third party unrelated to Chase. For the security of your account, we will need to cancel this debit card and send you a new debit card with a different number. You will receive your new card in the next 7-10 days.
If you notice unauthorized charges on your account or have additional questions please contact Chase Debit Card Fraud Prevention at (800)978-8664 or you can call the number on the back of your debit card and ask to speak with Debit Card Fraud Prevention.
Thank you for being our customer.
Sincerely,
Christopher J. Palumbo
Senior Vice President
Chase Fraud Prevention - anonymous replies to Some ChumpSome Chump is wrong because the email composition is trashy. A big bank like Chase that can afford actual writers and whose writings are parsed by their legal department would never use language like "compromised by an unknown third party unrelated to Chase". An "unknown third party" *IS* by definition "unrelated to Chase" so to use both is redundant.
"please contact Chase Debit Card Fraud Prevention at (800)978-8664" is nonsensical as 800-978-8664 is not listed on Chase's report fraud webpage https://www.chase.com/index.jsp?pg_name=ccpma ... ge/report_fraud that shows the following report fraud numbers:

- Peggy Sue| 1 replyFolks, some of these are scams, and some are not. Never give someone you don't know or an automated message your account details. I received a message tonight from 1-800-355-5265 on my home and my cell. I called back with "reference number" they provided but when they wanted me to select the make and model of my car I immediately hung up. I called the 1-800 number on the back of my Chase card and got transferred to the fraud unit who confirmed they did call me and noticed unusual activity at Walmart and Sams on my debit card in cities four or five hours from where I live. Interestingly, I was at my local Walmart and Sams near those same times but used a credit card and not the debit card. Chase stopped the card and is issuing a new one. I am trying to reach the 2 Walmarts but their finance person won't be in until 5am tomorrow ... be safe folks. I did note, however, that the Chase representatives failed to ask the security code I had placed on my account. Not sure yet if I will be closing my accounts as I have repeatedly asked for them to put a security pass phrase any time anyone accesses my account and they keep forgetting.

- anonymous replies to Peggy SueOooh, good SCAMMER post! Peggy Sue wants to "prove" this number 800-978-8664 is a real Chase number (and it is NOT) by linking it to ANOTHER *FAKE*FAKE*FAKE* SCAMMER NUMBER 800-355-5265. She wants to "prove" that Chase's fraud department uses many toll-free, publicly unverifiable numbers that are not listed on their website to call their customers to confirm transactions (and Chase does *NOT* use publicly-unverifiable numbers to do that). Now how do I know 800-355-5265 is another *FAKE* SCAMMER NUMBER? Easy! Just read Dee's post on 9 Nov 2012 https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-355-5265/27#p473520637090228103 reproduced here (and if you don't see it on page 27, it may have been pushed further down to page 28 or 29 by fresh SCAMMER posts!) :
"I got a text at 1142am stating:
Free Msg : CHASE Fraud:
Did you purchase $33.37 at a sporting goods store on 11-08-2012? Reply 1 if yes, 2 if no.
As soon as I replied 2. A second text came up for me to call CHASE fraud: at 800-355-5265.
So I called wondering who did it because I had my card with me.
Wait I had my card with me!
At this point I ran to my computer while I was on hold and typed in 800-355-5265 in the search field and clicked onto this link. Man these scammers are relentless. I figured it was a scam after looking at the number that texted me, it wasn't CHASE mobile.
So I hung up and called the CHASE number from the back of my card. Got a live person who verified there wasn't a fraud issue on my account and even checked out the 800-355-5265 to see if it was a CHASE number...it wasn't!"
THIS NUMBER 800-978-8664 AND 800-355-5265 ARE SCAMMER NUMBERS PRETENDING TO BE CHASE !!!
The 800-355-5265 SCAMMERS have even gone so far as to UPvote their SCAMMER posts and DOWNvoted real potential victim posts!
And after ALLEGING getting a message from 800-355-5265, *WHY* would Peggy Sue post *HERE* instead of the 800notes page for 800-355-5265?
I'll see what I can do about derailing the 800-355-5265 SCAMMERS for Peggy Sue. Why, they may be her competitors running the same Chase SCAM and why she wants them put out of business! But maybe I shouldn't because I find *THIS* number irresistible! Hahahahahahaha! - Joan| 1 replyThis is a legitimate number from Chase to alert you that your debit card may have been compromised. I checked with the customer service representative. To be safe, always dial the customer service number on the back of your card to reach a representative directly.
- Not chaseI got a text, it said my debt card was compromised that they were sending me a new one. I called chase and they said this 8664 is not theirs. That it is a scam
Chase will not contact users like this. Don't give them any info. They are calling my house now, so I reported them to fraudulence at Chase - LEnore| 2 repliesCorrect Number!! This does belong to Chase Bank

- Fraud Squad| 1 replyPart of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions. Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

- Shill Alert replies to nealI don't know what any of these people on this thread are talking about that are saying that this is a legit chase number. It's NOT A LEGIT CHASE CALL. They must be a part of the scam. I also received a call this morning from the robo voice from this number saying that I had fraudulent charges on my chase account. I was instructed to call back this number with a reference number I was given. I did not call this number back after reading these posts and decided to call the chase number on the back of my card. The woman I spoke with let me know that there were no fraudulent charges on my card, my account had not been flagged, and they have not sent out any texts or calls regarding my account. She also informed me that many other people have also called about the exact same issue and IT IS A SCAM. DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER BACK. You should either report it to chase or just ignore it.

- RonThis is a legitimate Chase number. I called and they verified. Just call Chase and confirm for yourself
- jennI got a text email and a call from this number in about 5 mins, which is consistent with chase fraud alerts I have previously dealt with. Just call chase to be sure if you're iffy on this. The number also did not ask for any info it was just a recording to inform me of my card fraud activity.
