Why don't you address these people continually harassing family members, friends and business associates.  They are in clear violation of the
THE FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT section 804.

the art institue uses this company if at anytime while you were in school you recieved direct help from the school, this happened to me for "loan paperwork" that i signed, that i was under impression was for sallie mae. if you don't pay it back with in the same time frame as federal loans, they send it to collections. the only thing is the school should have a record of this. when i called my school in virginia they were able to do the background check and send me the paperwork i originally signed that stated that i did have an outstanding balance of 1500. so for the most part it is valid but check with your school first.

    Identity Crisis
I keep getting calls from this company asking for someone who isn't me - not even the same gender.  I don't really feel like calling them back over a wrong number, that's their problem, not mine.  They should be able to figure it out from the voicemail.

Unless... Is this a tactic they use?  I notice a lot of people saying they call with a wrong name, then when you call back, they get your social security number.  I don't know of any outstanding money owed to my school, it was all paid at the time, and the bills went to the attention of my parents, who haven't moved.  I'm assuming this is just their mistake, but after reading these comments, I have no problems with allowing them to keep wasting their time chasing this person who I've never met in my life.  Their time, not mine, it only takes a couple seconds to delete the voicemail.

I've got the ringer set to silent now so they don't annoy me, but this is seriously pretty shady either way.  Too bad none of the tactics people have listed here about reporting them seem to work, because they're definitely still at it.

I keep getting calls from this number threatening a lawsuit about student loans from a school I never attended inspite of the fact that I keep telling them that I never attended this call.  It's time to take action.

These people started calling me 3 years ago.  One day I decided to answer, they wanted my SSN# and I would not give it to them.  I told them if they want to cantact me, do it in writing.  I soon received the first letter from them.  I called and asked what the debt was for.  They would not tell me and said they had to order a report.  Weeks later, they start calling again.  I told the lady I never received a report and nobody would tell me what the debt is.  She said it was for classes I took in 1988. Months later, they start calling again; this time they said it was for unpaid parking tickets from 2004.  I told them to send something in writing.  They sent a list of charges for parking on a campus I've never been to.  No charges on my credit report, so I'm going to wait and see.

    Not in debt
I've been getting calls from these guys for the past six years. They claim I owe money to University of Memphis for a semester in which I was not enrolled. I have documentation from the university stating that I do not owe this money, but when I asked the company for an itemized statement they refused to send me one! They also will not accept the documentation I have from the university. There's also nothing on my credit report (and never has been) about this large sum of money that I supposedly owe. Funny how they won't send me anything in writing about this, but will call me two to three times a week.

I received a call from these, um, "professionals" out of the blue one day.  I was told that I owe money on a student loan from Wachovia.  I informed the woman that I filed for bankruptcy over a year and a half ago and that this loan was a private installment loan that was discharged under the bankruptcy.  The woman told me that I was wrong and that I never filed bankruptcy and that her company doesn't believe in bankruptcy and I better pay-up. She also told me that I better check my credit report because the loan is still open.  I checked my reports, all 3, and it's listed as closed with a "0" balance.  I informed the woman about this and she told me I was wrong and that "I should do the right thing".  I told her to take me to court and never to call me again unless it's to inform me that they are taking me to court.  I hung up while she was screaming at me.

When ever these guys call me it is either an 800 or an 803 #. And they ask for my brother. And when I tell them he doesn't live here nor has he for almost 4 years. They start yelling at me saying that I shouldn't lie, and even though he is family I should tell them his number. o.O  Like I'm 8 or something. I've told them repeatedly he is in his second tour of Iraq he's in the war go fck yourselves. The thing is he has never been to college outside of the military after High school he went straight into the air force. And they're paying for his schooling. Now what really pissed me off was they kept calling. And about a month ago he was wounded and no one could tell us anything just that he was being shipped home and after he was taken care of someone would contact us (we're tight with his Platoon Sgt. so he gave us a ring) Now it had been a week and we didn't know anything and they kept calling. Asking for my brother saying they know he isn't in the air force. So I gave them the number for the base's general here in fl. and said it was my brother's number. Haven't gotten a call since.

Called me numerous times -- they are trying to collect on a debt that isn't mine, and won't take "not me" for an answer!  I put them on the Federal DNC list and also on my digital phone reject call number list, but somehow they got thru.  My husband hung up on them, and they called right back, Ididn't answer and they put me on "hold".

Just for your info:  This agency has called me as well, at least 100 times over the last 6 months.  I had gone to UT in San Antonio and they "claim" I owe $900 to repay a student loan, however I have asked REPEATEDLY for an accounting of this as I am currently paying my school loans and why would I pay twice!!  I have simply told them to give me the paperwork showing the trail of the financial aid office from the school and the loan companies.  If they CAN show me this amount IS NOT in my loans then I will be happy to pay it and HAVE TOLD THEM THAT.  All they send is my loan amount.  It is such a shame when all you ask for is legitimate answers and PROOF which you are entitled to that these companies can ruin your credit and name.  Not to mention that any time you ask for information, such as PROOF, they become VERY hostile and try to threaten you.

I've been getting calls from this # for over 2 years, I answered it once and was told that I owe $17 to my college, which I graduated from 2004 and paid off all loans. The person who called me doesn't even know the name she's calling for (my name). I have not gotten any bills from my college since I graduated, since everything was paid off. She said, no matter what, I owe them $17 and have to pay it, I told her to contact my school and have them contact me.

All the voice mails I received from them have no reference at all, it just goes like "This is Tiffany, or Michael, or whatever name, please call back at 888-235-0500."

So, I guess what you are saying is that you
don't deal with your business, instead, you avoid
it and cost everyone money trying to get you to deal
    with it?  LAME!

DId you ever consider that if you TAKE the
call and address what they are calling about,
the calling would stop because you would
be actually RESOLVING a business matter you
    created?

If they have your name and they are calling you,
then  you must have some type of business that
you have not dealt with.  Take your call and
    deal with it.

You need to go back to the drawing board on
your knowledge of FDCPA. As someone who
pays their bills, I have trouble relating
to you attitude.  Collection people are
there for a reason because of those
who try to get away with not paying.

    Hey,

Did you ever comprehend that MAYBE you created
some business that you have neglected to deal
with and thus, somebody is CALLING you on YOUR
telephone because YOU need to address your business
ISSUES!  Step up and be an adult instead of hiding
behind your telephone. I pay my bills, do you?
