Number keeps calling told them they have have the wrong number and they won't quit.

keep getting calls from this number asking to speak with another person who is NOT listed on my number.  I asked the caller, instead of calling me 5 times a day, why not send a letter or a copy of an outstanding bill to which they replied not a problem, we will remove your number from our call list.  REALLY?!?  freaking scam artists!  Words of wisdom:  don't give them any information about yourself or anyone else!

Avante company. Claim we owe money and they are the debt collector who has been assigned to collect it. WE do not owe anybody anything.

I have tried numerous times to answer this call and it is always silent on the other end. Or they hang up on me within a few seconds of saying hello. No one has ever identified themselves.

Why would this company be calling me about another person's debt?  The lady was polite and identified herself and the company when I asked her to repeat it.  I simply told her that she had a wrong number and there was no one by the name of the person she was seeking.  I have no doubt that I will get another call from these people simply because for some odd reason they have my phone number.  Even though this number appears on caller ID, the identity shows up as Unknown Name.

From checking here and google looks to be from Avante Collections out of TX, I have no clue who they are or how they got my cell phone number. I do not give my cell number out and they leave no message. So guess what? I do not answer the call. If it's important enough you can leave message and I may call you back.

I don't answer the calls and block the numbers.  They still call and leave messages. It seems they might be using different numbers when you block one.

Called and left no message

The debt they are trying to collect from me is a debt that is over 10 years old and from my ex wife.  I wish these people would get there act together!!

they aren't really looking for the name that they claim. they just want someone to answer. and when you answer you won't be removed from any list. they just keep calling back. the delay is because you answered, your phone and they now know it's a working number. You were just chosen out of a "hamster wheel" when you answered and they will be calling back.
I have been called by the same number for several different reasons, all bull. don't answer if you don't know the number.. If it's important they will leave a msg. If these losers call unless you wait till they actually spit your number out that they speak. Just let it ring but remember to check your msg's as they will call, hang up, and fill up your msg box by that click, It's good when you can block the number, but they will call with different numbers, so blocking can be impossible. better off not to answer and don't bother with the Do Not Call list as it won't help.

Of course the DNC doesn't work against debt collectors.  It wasn't designed for that (know why?  Because debt collectors are not selling anything)..  What was designed for them was the FDCPA.  Now people that know their rights under the FDCPA know how to stop the calls.  Those that don't, such as yourself put up with them.

Never ceases to amaze me how people just post without thinking-a little research does wonders!

But research takes too much time and posting without thinking takes none.

And then they wonder why the regulars go off on them when all they need to do is look in a mirror for the answer to that question

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

It's true that debt collection doesn't fall under TCPA and TSR but, they do fall under both state and federal FDCPA consumer protection acts and others. If you feel that their call tactics are Unfair, Deceptive, Abusive ACT's, and Practices file a complaint with the CFPB. Unknown calls are to phone numbers that debt collection agency skip tracers (account service reps) associate with an alleged debtor. It can also be called calling all relatives, friends, and others. If the reason is unknown and their abusive call tactics continue file a certified cease and desist that includes the phone numbers being called and that those numbers are listed as associated, alternate contact number, wrong name wrong number on an account. Telling them over the phone means nothing.
