I also have a TD bank account, use Verizon wireless and live in MA.  This is ridiculous.  I already received 2 calls today with no voicemail. Annoying.

I used to work for TD. This is something really annoying that they do for "customer service" if you go INTO a branch it gets logged that you did a transaction, you will randomly get called so they can find out about the customer service you received.

I have been a TD Bank customer since 2008.  I recently made changes to my accounts and was called by 855-496-4285 yesterday while on the road.  Did not answer and no voicemail was left.  I don't answer calls from phone numbers I don't know and this was no exception.  Weird how a lot of these posts are actual TD Bank users.....I will call TD Bank today and find out if they actually called me.

I just got a call for the same # on my cell phone. I too am a TD Bank customer. Like everyone else who missed the call, no message was left for me. I tried to call the number back I got a voice message from Core Essential a marketing group. The recorded message prompted me to stay on the line but I hung up.

My on-line telephone log (not to be confused with ordinary caller ID) shows that the call from 855-496-4285 originated in Cambodia.
The caller hung up on my answering machine, perhaps because my outgoing message is in English.

Dear The company who has been calling you is probably a scammer. There is no evidence that they actually exist. They are probably criminals who have found your information online. Unless you receive written notification there is no reason to treat them as a real company. They may threaten you to scare you into paying them, but there is nothing they can actually do. Do not give them anything they ask for. File a complaint with your state attorney general's office or contact the new government agency which has been set up to handle consumer complaints:
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/get-help-now/c ... and-complaints/
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
You may also file a complaint with the FBI here:
    http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx.
Payday loan sites get hacked on a seemingly regular basis and  scammers use info hacked from these sites to illegally collect money from unwary consumers. They will often know  personal info such as your last four digits of your SSN, DOB, address etc., all taken from the stolen records.  They use that info to get even more info on you from personal info sellers like Choicepoint. Unless you know for sure you owe the money, be very careful about giving them any personal info, especially bank account information (they will clean you out,).  Record the calls if legal in your jurisdiction, and demand a mailing  address so you can send them a "cease and desist" letter (see FDCPA Sect 809.)   Since these calls almost always come from overseas, there isn't much the authorities can do to stop them.  So protect yourself. The scammers use many scare tactics to force you to pay:
    •    Threaten jail time, to "serve you at work or home" or " arrest you at work or home" if you don't pay by a specific hour
    •    demand pre-paid Walmart card or Western Union tranfers to pay the supposed debt
    •    Tell you "there is a case pending  in the courts".  Check your local courthouse and see if any company has filed a lawsuit against you.
    •    Say they are federal agents, government agents, law enforcement, ie; "Officer Smith", ""Special Investigator Jones"
    •    Say they are a lawyer or law firm. Ask for their exact company name, address and the names of their lawyers so you can look them up in their state bar association (this can be done online).
    •    State a fake company name: again, get the exact address and look them up in their state's Division of Corporations:. If they are not listed there they are not a real company, and therefore, a SCAM!
    •    Tell them by law they are required to send you a collection letter within 5 days of the first time they call you. Be suspicious if they refuse to give you their address or won't send the letter through the US Mail. Many scammers email or fax collection letters to skirt the Mail Fraud felony laws.
All Division of Corporations for every state can be found at the following link:

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do against scammers since they are  not legitimate and not much you can do either other than hang up on them. Keep telling them you know they are not real, they will not get anything from you, and are wasting their time.  Also, tell them you have reported them to the FBI.  Eventually they will leave you alone when they realize they will not be able to trick you into paying them.  Please see this ALERT  from the FBI:
    http://www.ic3.gov/media/2010/101201.aspx
Here is a link to a recent Fox news report on this very scam:

We hope this information has proven helpful. And please tell your family and friends to be on alert for this scam!

I just received a call from this number (about the 4th or 5th time actually) and I just kept ignoring them. I then tried to call the number back and all I get is a quick ring and then it reverts to the busy signal. Not sure if it is associated with TDBank, but I too recently opened an account with TD. I have set my phone to ignore calls from this number in the future so I should not be hearing from them again, lol.

Just got the same # call.  After reading these comments, I blocked the number - hope it works.

Next step is a complaint to proper authorities.

I have received other rude calls with no answer or no return number to check

    - when one in particular would not stop harrassing me with  no explanation or call back # - I simply turned on VERY LOUD music each and every time and walked away from the phone.  They did listen for a while, then hung up and stopped calling.

Do not call lists - need to work to be real.
Keep at it folks.  Protect yourselves.

We got a call from this company. Wanted us to take a survey on our bank - Pat (the caller) wasn't even able to identify our bank - since she "knew" so much about our company and "said we participated last year".  Bullsnot. We also got a fax from them - how i was able to verify their id.  Sent fax back saying to take us out of our database. Letting them know we do track removal requests.

I just called the TD Bank Fraud hotline (a 1800 number that I found on their website) and spoke to someone about the person who just called me from this 855 number--asking about my most recent bank visit.
The TD bank rep informed me that this is a 3rd party company performing surveys on random customers to improve their service.

Not sure if its 100% true or if the person I spoke to at the bank is scamming too--but wanted to update everyone since this just happened to me tonight and I see 23 pages worth of comments :\  This is a crazy way to improve customer service--by annoying everyone at dinner time!!!
