they called my phone, I set up the caller name as don't answer.

It is odd to see this comment and compare to other comments claiming several departments have no evidence this is an RBC number along with more comments where people started asking questions about the legitimacy of the caller and their employment with RBC.

Also, calling your "local RBC" branch and they were able to verify the legitimacy of the number, but corporate head office departments including security fraud departments could not verify the legitimacy of the number in other comments.

It comes down to:

1. RBC posting the number on their website, which they would do if it was their number.

2. Calling back the number is not a sound way to test the legitimacy of the number with whoever answers it on the other end.

3. Two major phone companies in Canada who deny it is a number they issued.

The best thing you could have done for RBC is direct them to this blog and tell them to rectify the situation on their website.  I believe several other people have already tried to do this from previous blogs and some filed complaints with the Anti-Fraud Bureau in Canada.

Okay, so this number called me and I picked up and they told me they were some radio station so I hung up since I've never called a radio station before so I figured it was a scam. They have called me multiple times, so I eventually called back the number and it said it was RBC. The lady on the phone was VERY quick to ask me for my personal information, and I stressed to her that I was not comfortable answering those questions and that if she could give me a little more information as why she was calling I would be more inclined to answer. Anyways, I hung up and called RBC and talked to a representative, and she indeed did say that the number was legitimate and transferred me to the collections. But, my advice is to call the RBC toll free number and have them transfer you, better be super safe than sorry. I still think it's super stretchy that they called saying they were a radio station.. something still doesn't seem right.

Got a call from this number today... Message stated they were from RBC and to "call back at (some mumbled number)"... I called RBC Telephone banking and asked them to verify the number... He could not find it and advised I not call it.  He also confirmed there were no notes on my accounts that would explain why they were calling.

This is a legit call.  RBC just pissed me off for the last time though ... no Caller ID on this number.  More unethical behavior from this bank.  I have had enough.

Well on a positive note, I decided to call RBC back and had a pleasant experience. I was my first ever missed payment as I honestly told her I completely forgot as my mind has been focused on work lately. So they have removed me from the list and I am back on track with payments...But think about it, this was my first ever missed payment in my lifetime and I am 50, so they instantly send my account off to collections, pretty scary.

You may want to read the fine print on your Client Card agreement and your Visa/Mastercard agreement (this applies to all Canadian financial institutions).

After that, you may want to go back and read the Canadian Parliament's bills passed in 1984

Then you will realize that businesses in Canada have the right to use phone call monitoring with 'implied' consent.  Meaning that once you use the client card, or 30 days after receiving your first Visa statement, you have implied consent!

This number called me SEVEN times between 5 pm and 8:30 pm today. If it is an RBC number, they really need to chill. My husband owes some money on his Visa, but he has a repayment plan so why the hell do they feel it necessary to harass us?
It's not very good customer service and I will be complaining to the bank about this. If it is a scam, they're not going to hook very many people by irritating the f**k out of them!

RBC I guess, I don't even have a account with them, I guess they called the wrong number

Received a cluster of calls and a voicemail from this number yesterday. Called RBC's contact line @1.800.769.2511 their representative looked it up and stated that it was not a RBC number.

I suspect it is a scammer.

getting calls, looked up online and found this forum, nobody in our household even banks with RBC, we had new number because we changed from eastlink to bell seems we are getting calls for the last person that had this number, even talked to a couple people and told them this, the calls stopped for a bit now they are starting up again grrr.and they seems to have several numbers

When in doubt call a number that you ARE familiar when questioning a call. Too many bogus operations are know for spoofing their caller id information.

It's Royal Bank of Canada calling and they are being very aggressive!

If you get this number on your phone you are probably in trouble! I know I owe them money and missed my payment nothing I can do gotta feed my family but they are relentless. Guy on the phone flat out yelled at me and told me I was a sub-par citizen. My advice is to ignore the call/block it on your phone because they call every day day after day and it makes you depressed.

It's not Royal Bank - it's a fraud.

DO NOT PICK UP!!!  My 5 year old granddaughter picked up and they said it was RBC. I called RBC an they said it was NOT them!!

It's RBC. They said I maxed out my Credit Card limit and pushes you real hard to pay-off a certain amount to level it back to the max limit - that is the total bill less the max limit (total amount - $$$$ limit)... They will NOT, I say it again, WILL NOT STOP until you paid up and leveled back to your max limit.

This is a scam - FRAUD - they will say they are RBC but they are not. They are trying to get your information. We are a law firm, they have called us repeatedly. Anyone on the threads to these numbers that claim they are legit clearly work for the scam artists!
