- Annoyed| 1 reply******I JUST TALKED TO RBC. This is the truth: they sold your phone number to z solutions as a third party so they can try to sell you insurance. This is exactly what the rbc rep said to me on the phone when I called my bank. Not cool. I wonder how many other companies they sold my personal information to. Pass on the word and expose rbc! This is no fraud, this is the bank itself selling our identities!
- Caller: Rbc and z solutions

- debut_goldYes, it's from the RBC collections. They want to sell you more bait and switch programs when you are $1.00 overdrawn. They must be hard up for money to pay top executives their 4 million dollar yearly bonuses, so have their pinions that are paid peanuts, to do their dirty work. I have been a client for 40 years, and never have been harrassed like this before. I get paid regularly and have paid them their hijack fees or they just take them. When they are in Toronto on the 53 floor or India ,instead of in Rural Canada, they think they can get away with harrassment and downright rudeness. They take their fees, and add on more especially , when you don't want their products. Don't kld yourself, they get their money and play phoning games to get even , when you have called them on their hidden fee, up the [***], harrassment products.
It's even worse when you ask them not to use the bait and switch programs on your account and not to change the terms of your account on a whim...jus cause they are pickin their [***] @ 8:00 am in the morning or 9:00 pm at night.
They also don't like it when you invest elsewhere. They let you know in their duplistic, money gouging policies and attacks on your account. Unfortunately, again this is rural Canada, and there isn't a choice or I'd be gone.- Caller: Royal Bank

- Repost| 4 repliesI have also been called by this number, but I never answered the call. I did a number check over the internet and came across several responses to this number and similar numbers to 855 - 560 - 14xx.
I contacted RBC directly and this is the information given to me by an RBC manager:
1. This is not one of their numbers. RBC numbers are posted on their website.
2. They do use automated messaging and the automated message will leave a message on your voice mail.
3. RBC uses 1 - 800 - xxx - xxxx numbers not 1 - 855 - xxx - xxxx
They also provided the following information:

After reading several blogs on various websites, the suspicious numbers use variations of:
855 - 560 - 14xx
Be vigalent and never give personal information out to anyone. If you are not sure, then contact your bank through a known number and check.to see if the number is legitimate. If you talk to a live person on the other end then try to get as much information as possible such as full name (get them to spell it out), a return contact number, employee number, where they are calling from (city, province/state, country, street address, email information, etc.) Tell them you will call back, then check with your bank. If information does not match up, contact the authorities.
SCAM's come in all types, check out what happened with yahoo when the email system got hacked.- Caller: RBC

- SCAM ALERT replies to Repost| 2 repliesAfter further digging, if the calls come from outside your country, then there is nothing the authorities can do. Legitimate businesses have there legitimate names come up on the call display. This is not a Telus number and further more, there is nothing Telus can do to prevent incoming calls from any number. I deal with Telus, so they can provide me with a little more information about the origin of the call with respect to Telus. If anyone is a Customer with Rogers or Bell, then could you please query your service provider to add to this post.
Most people have it right when they are phishing for information. They have some how acquired some of your information, but it is incomplete for the "Scam Artist" to unlawfully gain access to your account(s). I have timed the phone calls and it is synchronus between accessing the internet/logging off and this number calling. Sometimes it is within minutes of logging off the internet, during this round of calls, usually about half an hour after logging off. I have run anti-virus software and usually it comes up with a threat, eliminates it, then the phone calls stop for a short period, until I have to repeat the process. These scammers may also send a letter to you that appears to be official, but it is not official. Try to read as many posts as possible with regards to the 1-855-560-14xx (where xx seems to be numbers between 01 and 25). The scam seems to be related to banking institutions or Pay Pal. - MB replies to Overdraftdodger8,9am & 10 am. Call back and it says rbc?

Other banks may have similar information. - The Man's DenIf you received a call from 855-560-1405 or 855-560 1406 claiming to be from RBC please contact RBC Security immediately at 1-800-769-2511 regardless if you are an RBC customer or not. This needs to be reported to get RBC Security to continue their investigation into these matters. Also contact RBC's Media Public Relations Greg Skinner greg.skinner@rbc.com

- SCAM ALERTThe reality of the situation is when these scammers do call they are off shore and are not subject to Canadian Law. This number called with only TD Bank on the call display. There was no number associated with the call display. They did leave this number as a call back number 866-485-5354. I typed it in my search engine, low and behold, this is the first thing on the list. Complaints about this number. I have had similar phone calls from people pretending to be RBC on a 855-560-1406 number. Currently RBC is investigating this number and other numbers in that range. In a contact email, they have already stated all numbers show up on the RBC website. These scammers have some information, but not all your information. They are "Phishing" for more information. The banks already have your information.
1. Check your bank website for all contact numbers.
2. Report to RCMP Phonebusters or Canadian Anti-Fraud Agency and your bank (more imortantly, the security/fraud division).
3. If you do answer and talk to somebody, then get the following information:
a. Full Name of the person calling/Employee Number
b. Any and all call back numbers
c. Address of their location (Street Address, City, Province (State), Country
d. Tell them you will call them back after verifying the above information
4. Do not cave in to threats or harassment as it is their job to separate you from your money. Banks do not threaten or harass people, they do their best at friendly customer service.
5. If they tell you to mail your money to a specified address, write the address down to pass along to the appropriate authorities. Always do transactions with your bank directly.
6. Be aware of mail fraud and email fraud. They will try to send you official looking notices. These items are easy to fabricate.
7. If they keep harassing, then notify them you will be contacting your bank, the RCMP, the Anti-Fraud Agency and as many news agencies to warn them of this SCAM. - Bell Contact replies to SCAM ALERTTalked to Bell Canada, this is not a Bell number.
I have already submitted a complaint about this number to RBC as requested by a previous post.
If you do answer the phone, ask who they are looking for and regardless of the name given to you, explain "that person does not live at this number". Please file it in your information to end these calls. - SCAM ALERTAfter more digging into this number and similar numbers and additional fraud information.
RCMP advise:
1. Collect as much information as possible about the caller.
2. Do not give out any information on yourself with regards to credit cards, etc.
3. Call your bank through a known number, like the one on the back of your card.
4. Verify the information you have collected from the alleged bank representative.
5. If the bank can not verify the information, then report the caller to the appropriate authorities bank, RCMP, Canadian Anti-Fraud Bureau.
The most important thing to understand is never give personal information unless you have initiated the phone call to a known and trusted bank number (back of Credit Card).
The scammers are the ones posting to this blog and others saying "Pay your bills!" or some other phrase to that effect. - Linda replies to RepostThird call today, and about twenty this week with no answer. Finally I just yelled hello into the phone and lo and behold a person spoke on the other end. RBC VISA Collections. I filed bankruptcy on the eighteenth of July and was told that the calls would stop after about five days. Guess it's time to call the trustee.
PS: I phoned this number back, 1-855-560-1406 and it was answered RBC COLLECTIONS - LINDA| 1 replyRBC COLLECTIONS. Call the number, that is how they answer.
- Caller: RBC COLLECTIONS
- Call type: Debt collector
- SCAM ALERT replies to LINDAHow do you know it is RBC collections. You can not honestly believe that when you call a number and they say "RBC Collections", you jump and provide all your personal information. I followed the RCMP guidelines and contacted RBC customer service and RBC security. They have in no way suggested this is their phone number or are even affiliated with this phone number. I have received 2 different responses from 2 different people, working for 2 different divisions. More so, even Telus and Bell have said this is not one of their numbers. After getting this information a filed a complaint with the Anti-Fraud Bureau and RBC to start an investigation.
If this was a legitimate RBC number, then with the number of blogs associated with the legitimacy of this number should be clarified/rectified by the RBC website (the one with a green lock in the URL) not just because somebody posts on this blog "It is RBC COLLECTIONS", call the number. I would suggest to these people to contact "RBC Collections" or "RBC" and notify them of the number of complaints and add some numbers to their website. Keep in mind, only a very small percentage of people will actually blog about these numbers.
Furthermore, I complained to RBC about the 1423 version, calls stopped. I did the same for 1406, the calls stopped. I listed off some other numbers I came across (1400 to 1425 range), I am sure the calls stopped for other people. They found it very suspicious a message was not left. - SteveWell, read this thread, as well as the one "TheMan" linked to.. Weird part is, I don't bank with RBC, nor have I in the past.. Also I'm substantially in the black, with no personal debt, and have never missed a payment on anything. But, could be id theft, and prudence would say investigate further. So, I called them back, they start asking for personal info, I hang up. Called the number on RBCs website, and big surprise, they have no 855 #s, no record of me, my phone number, or my address.
Do not bother calling that number. If you're not sure and don't blindly follow advice of people you don't know from some website you found via google, good for you, but still don't call that number. Call Royal Bank, if it was really them, they don't care what number you call to contact them.
Steve
P.S. My guess is I just incurred a $5/min charge for the 25 seconds I was on the phone with them, payable to the "Royale Banco du Columbia" , incorporated in L.A. or some sh*t, since they don't actually say "Royal Bank of Canada" at any point in their msg.
P.P.S. Suck my hairy a$$ "TheMan", cuz when your scam is done, you'll be serving my kids fries on our way to a skiing trip!*
*plagiarized from Good Will Hunting - SCAM ALERTTo all of the bloggers who posted "THIS IS RBC Collections". Maybe you should inform "RBC" about this thread so they may rectify this situation on their official website instead of saying this is "RBC Collections". This would be the only way to clear up this mess of threads.
Please keep in mind, I already have contacted RBC Canada twice with the same response of them having zero knowledge of these types of numbers. "RBC Collections" needs to do their "DUE DILIGENCE" as well.
I was receiving phone calls from an alleged TD Bank number, although I am not a TD client, they did inform me this was one of their numbers when I contacted the bank. I told them to please update their website to save on the confusion of these threads, they thanked me, and then they updated information on their official website.
I do not see RBC Canada doing the same for this number and until it changes, it can only be viewed as a "PHISHING" type scam. I still can't believe people can get baited in by these calls like (or by) Linda and Debut_Gold just on this page alone. - It Ain't RBC replies to AnnoyedLooks like a shill for the fraud folks.
- ShirleyIt's not RBC. Fraud number saying they are RBC and you owe them money. If you question them and indicate you don't owe anything and won't give them any information they suddenly say "oh we don't need to speak with you anymore" and hang up.
DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION.- Caller: Fraudulent company
- call recipientContacted RBC. The security dept said number not associated with RBC.
- Another SCAMThis thread seems to be the most informative thread on this number with similar complaints to other threads.
This is an out of country number. They can not be held accountable to Canadian Law unless they step foot on Canadian soil. I did my own investigating. The "Greg Skinner" contact is a legitimate name for RBC public relations.
These people also send fake/forged mail documents with the same number which are easy to create according to some website scam busters (cut and paste on photo shop). This is a new tactic. Check with your bank if you are getting harassed by a "Collections Department".
I also find it very odd the number comes up as Toll Free Service and not RBC. There is technology available to have almost any identification appear on caller ID.
They rarely leave a message and most times an out of country accent can be detected when a message is left.
I know someone who accidentally answered this number and incurred a $72 charge on their phone bill for this number.
The "Scammer Posts" are very similar in names to other threads with similar comments. A lot of these threads say call the number, it is RBC Collections.
I would tend to believe the posts where you are encouraged to call your bank and look at the bank website to see if it is one of the bank numbers. - Concerned Mom| 2 repliesI received a call from them for my Daughter. They asked for her to call them back at the same number. They said they were calling from Ontario. I then called our "local RBC" branch and they verified it was from the RBC collections. So my suggestion to you all; first call your local bank to verify the number but 'Tell Them' the call may be from "collections originating in Ontario". Make it easier for them to find the number. At first the teller could not find the number on their regular list of numbers but since she was obviously experienced she looked up their collections phone numbers. You can also make an inquiry on your account since I was told she could go to her branch to find out what the call was about. Let's face it, collection companies are not eager for you to know they are calling so they won't have their number easy for you to look up.
