My boyfriend was looking for Nissan Maxima and we saw this listing on Craigslist- 2006 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SE, with 39,203,  He gave us a VIN number which I ran. Sgt Rich Puckett says "I am selling the car because my company U.S. Army will be sent back to AFghanistan and I have no use for it anymore. The price is low because I need to sell it before July 14th. " The price was 2900. "You will not have any problems with registration the vehicle meets all environmental regulation in the US. I am located in Honolulu, HI, It will be shipped by DAS Auto Transport Services to deliver the car to your door" As I know that my current situation is pretty special i want the deal closed only through EBays; Buyer Protection Program in order for you to be 100% protected. You will make the payment Ebay and they will hold the money until you receive the car. ONLY AFTEr you receive the car and inspect it (for 10 days) Ebay will release the payment to me; in htis way we aboth preotect. Anyway I am sure that if you won't be satisfied with the car I will surely finda nother buyer in your area and there will be no need for you to ship the car back."

It all sounded kind of strange and I googled EBAY Buyer Protection Program. I am so glad that this was on the internet. They always say if something sounds too good to be true then it is too good to be true. Its a scam.

A scam for a 2005 Polaris Ranger to!

My wife received the exact same email as Jayne did regarding the 2002 BMW Convertible.  After a couple of email exchanges with the bozo, it was apparent that he/she/whoever, probably didn't speak/write English as a first language.  

I then provided him a fictional name and address of which he promptly sent out the 'ebay@buyer-program-protection.com' 'Protection Invoice'.  A quick domain search for the 'buyer-program-protection.com' revealed a 3 month old domain name registered out of NV.

As much as my wife was 'excited' about the deal initially, now she's just plain mad (but at least we didn't fall victim to this idiot)..

its funny cause i have had 2 scams im sure of in the past 2 days, both use something about the army in them, both cars are far away, both want to use ebay protection programs, and both are one of those to good to be true deals.

The weird thing is that this exact car is also listed as a 2005 Honda Acord, I got super excited when I first say it then again I knew it was too good to be true. I emailed the person and the story was pretty much the same as the ones on this thread. I am glad I saw this thank you!!!! I really hope this people get caught. I am sorry for anyone who get scammed that is just not cool. Stupid Scammers, I wish they will just get a life and a real job!!!

I got this email tonight and called my uncle who live in Alaska if he could help me pick it up when he told me it was a scam. At first I was ignorant about it then decided to google it when I saw this website. How embarrassing. Now my new motor is to never a anything online no matter how cheap it is. Scammers please get a life and a real job or the police are going to find you. I hope you  get caught and jailed. I continued to question and then I personally looked up this "eBay Buyer Protection" and I was surprised to find all these forums on how big of a scam it was and all these stories almost the exact same with a few minor details changed. I proceeded to email him back and tell him how offended I was for thinking I was a complete idiot since I was a college student and how ashamed he should be of himself. He then had the audacity to continue the lie and give me his "personal word this is a sale on the legit." And continued to announce he was a "respectable person in the US Army and I should be insane to risk my freedom, children, career and everything for any sum of money. I am not a thief and certainly not like to call me thief!" And then asked IF I STILL WANTED THE CAR!!!!!
I told him I had already researched it and called eBay's customer support and explained the situation thoroughly and they assured me it was a scam and told him he should be ashamed of himself and that he was a true disgrace. Hope others actually look it up before they send mass amounts of money to a scammer!

got the same exact email from him today...the first red flag for me was that I saw the car on Craigs list, and he told me to go to EBay to fill out a claim on it, and to send him my full name and address.

You can forge anything these days. Carfax. Ebay stationery. Doesn't matter. A little HTML and maybe some PostScript code and you can fake just about any document. How do you tell? You don't tell. You go verify yourself independently. You have to suspect all information that passes through the hands of the (potential) adversary.

He now has an add on craigslist for a Nissan 350z for just under 4,000 dollars I almost bought this car but thanks to hte people at e-bay they helped me realize that it was a total scam. I would love to find out who this guy is and see him pay for all the stolen money.
