Thanks a lot for the post, I was almost a victim. Just like you, he told me he was in the army, so they would not be able to talk on the phone. Usually when someone tells me that the first thing I think of, it's  a scam. Then I thought if I could just talk to someone from the ebay protection plan then it will be all good. Not surprisingly they tole me another stupid reson for not being able to talk on the phone. I'm also a business man so the first thing I did was began to research and then I found this. Thanks again.

His 'nationwide ad' listed katherineatkins@attende.net but he responded to emails with kateatns71@msn.com. Also note that attende.net expired a month ago but his email still works? I'm out less than $50 for the carfax but it stalled me long enough to back out of the deal even though the carfax report was clean. Wish carfax would list the current owner name on the report for verification but it does not.

Perhaps the feds could track his IP and location through his uploads to photobucket. Looks like he is still slightly changing his M.O. Here's emails from a similar deal I luckily did not go through with....(and as of right now 2010-07-02, pics at photobucket are still up).

It is obviously a scam since any attempt besides email to request contact info from the seller (whoever this guy is) results in them not responding at all. And the same result if you offer to go view the car in person. He puts the ads around $2800 to $4000 in hopes that people don't pursue a court case because of legal fees and to limit it to small claims court and not eligible for conviction of grand larceny on a single count. It is, however, currency fraud across state lines and maybe across country lines; that clearly lends itself to federal law (secret service) action and other should authorities ever go after this menace to society.

On a side note, the re-placed ad verified existence on July 3rd for 2002 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4x4 is already gone and it is only July 7th. This person could be using stolen emails or making a few new ones or both.  It would be helpful if people start posting the original ad and all email responses to help protect future potential victims. The original ad text will help if people do a search for any of it once it gets indexed by the popular search engines.
