I came a across a deal that seemed too good to be true and after some investigation, mainly by googling craigslist and ebay buyer protection, I found that ebay says to ignore these and chalk them up as fraudulent.  Here is the story I got for my 2005 Audit with 35,600 miles that was selling for 2053 bucks.

I've received your email regarding the Audi A4 with 35,600 miles on it. The car is still for sale and my asking price is $2,053. It is a 2005 model loaded with everything. The car is very well maintained and it has just been completely serviced. The engine runs very good and the automatic transmission shifts perfectly.The car is in perfect condition with clear title,no accidents, no liens or loans.
I’m selling the car because I lost my husband and my son of only 19 years, with 2 months ago in a car accident. A drunk truck driver hit them. They were in my husband’s car and they didn’t had a chance. This was my son's car and brings me a lot of memories that make me suffer and this is the reason for what I want to sell it as soon as possible. Yea It's a scam. I just saw a 2005 Nissan maxima for $1984. Here is the story they sent me.

I got a very similar message, but has anyone researched the Google checkout or eBay buyer protection policy to make sure you can get your money back if the people are lying? If you can return it with a full refund, I do not see the downside. I definitely see how it probably is a scam, but I would like to know more about the promised full refund return if the buyer isn't satisfied.

I looked into it bcuz this lady told me the story about her husband and son got killed in car accident, she wudnt answer phone bcuz she was "working" but she cud email. I sent a few emails with questions and she kept telling me the story, it was for a 2002 lexus for 1500$, she was having hard time selling it, way too good to be true. I cant even get a cheap car that runs for that much!! Hope noone gets scammed anymore, this is ridiculous!

I gladed I found this site and read the posts.  I saw an ad at Boston MA Craigslist for a 2003 Harley-Davison Road King Classic motorcycle selling for $4100.  It's too good to be true.  The bike is at Omaha, Nebraska.  Got reply from the seller Christine Miller with similar story, using eBay Buyer Protection Program for the transaction.  I google about the eBay program and found this site.  It pull me out of the scame.  Thank you for posting.  Buyer be aware, if it's too good to be true, it is.

Literally just happened to me looking at some of the other messages this person "Jessica Hartley" had a 2008 honda accord for 3000$ seemed legit and to good to be true as well thoughts of scams did not roll through my mind until I asked for the vin number and this person completely ignored me. So I did my own research and found people had the SAME story and this "Jessica" about how her son died 4 months ago he was 24 and on his way to his brothers plbirthday party of age 16 and was hit but a drunk driver with his fiancée, like I felt bad but seriously I am laughing now and want everyone to know what I almost got my self into. Thank you all for the assurance.

I think I am currently dealing with a scammer to!. The name he use is Lt. Heather McDowell. She/He said that she/he was promoted and will be assigned in AFB Anchorage, Alaska that's why she/he's selling her 2008 Nissan Altima for $3,000 only. The car looks new and nice.  She/he sent me 18 pictures of it. The car is still in Nebraska, and she said it's already in the shipping company ready to be delivered to the new owner.  She/he was using the said "eBay's Buyer's Protection Program" to lure buyers to trust her/him. This is her/his actual message:

Oh, and I google-mapped the address on the "EBay" invoice - 12 Lin Dr, Eglin AFB, FL 32542 and (surprise!) it is a vacant lot.
