- no longer in the countrySo does anyone have an actual solution to the problem of these idiots calling?? I have been working in my job for 3 years and someone from Collect Corp has been calling for the last person who worked in my position for all 3 years! I have tried everything...I facebooked the person and told them to contact the Collect Corp agent to get them to STOP CALLING ME. I have repeatedly told the agent that the person no longer lives in the country and that they haven't worked here in 3 year. Nothing works!
It is unbelievable that a company like AMEX would want this kind of customer service reputation--I will never use AMEX purely because of this experience.- Caller: Collect Corp
- realist| 3 repliesthey are a collections agency. don't want them to call you anymore? pay your bills on time and don't spend what you can't afford. you no longer fall into a category of ethical treatment once you become a debtor.
- The SolutionTell any third-party collection agency this: "The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) requires that you stop phoning me at home, at work or my cell phone once I request you to do so. I entend to send you a certified letter putting my no contact request in writing. If you continue to phone me, then I will file a complaint with the FTC and the Attorney General". This is an actual US statute intended to stop harrassing and abusive phone calls from collection agencies. While the FDCPA generally only applies to third party debt collectors--not internal collectors for an "original creditor" -- some states, such as California, have similar state consumer protection laws which mirror the FDCPA, and regulate original creditors. And there are numerous other exceptions so just do a little research of what exactly your rights are. I received messages on my answering machine from Tiffany X6492 looking for my ex-brother in-law (who I haven't seen in 20 years and lives in California) regarding a personal business matter that has crossed her desk and it's imperative she speaks with him. Kinda weird I thought.

- RICHARD replies to ex_collectorHi I am Richard and I was trying to get collectcorp fax number so I can fax them my seas and desist letter and also their address.
Can you pls. help me? - Phonephreak| 2 repliesIf a collection agency calls you, and it's a wrong number, don't panic, don't yell or scream or speak rudely to strangers over the phone, don't start swearing and quoting some obscure law. Simply inform the person on the line that they're calling the wrong number and they won't phone you again. Collection agencies are not interested in phoning wrong numbers, there is absolutely no profit in it. If you scream, swear, threaten and hang up, collection agencies will probably phone back again, because they think you could be the debtor trying to hide. Simply inform the collection agent that they have the wrong number, and you won't get any more calls.

- NCCall at WORK from this company. Told them today that it is unacceptable. To quote consumer rights information, the following are not permissable:
Some of the features of the FDCPA cover limitations on phone contact and rules about written correspondence.
Collectors:
Are not permitted to use obscene language.
Cannot call before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m.
May not call you at work if you state that your employer disapproves of this communication.
Must provide a written notice within five days of contacting you stating the amount you owe, whom you owe, and what action to take if you believe you do not owe the money.
Cannot contact you if, within 30 days of receiving the written notice, you dispute the debt in writing. The collector cannot try to collect the debt during that time until they provide documentation of what is owed.
People begin class action suits for less cause than the fact that these people are interrupting you while you are at work, trying to make money to pay the bills. Would they like you to get fired so you can never pay them? My boss does not allow for personal calls period.- Caller: Collection Corp

- N replies to realist| 1 replyWow - aren't you lucky to have never had to struggle financially, never lost a job in a bad economy, never had a sole income disappear without the extra 20K in the bank to sustain you and your family for the length of time it takes to find a job. I am sure you are the model citizen, a good Christian and morally and ethically correct at all times! Where is that high horse you sit on, and who gave you the right to sit there judging others?

You can spend an entire month reading forum complaints from people who would swiftly refute this. Debt collectors pester the wrong people every day, often deliberately in an effort to create false shame in the intended victim. The FDCPA says they, and not you, get to decide if your "not me / not here" story is true and thus regain permission to call again. While I also advise a calm approach, verbal cease-comms are rarely obeyed. Written ones amplify your demand and preserve your rights, when sent USPS CMRR. - mauDon't answer this call, n if u do do NOT tell them anything, regardless if u know or don't know the person. The min u say u know the person they r looking for u will ne there point of contact if they don't find that person. As how they get the info well that is easy , the internet . Look ur self up u will be surprised what u can find out about people , even ur ss# for a fee. Also don't judge these people cause u mite not know their situation. God Bless

- coreyFor four years now I've been receiving calls from whoever the hell these people are. The number they call me from changes from time to time, but they always ask for the same person, who is not me, and I have never heard of. Several times they have said they will take me off their list since I was not the person they were trying to contact, but a few months later they call again from a different number. They'll call several times a day, sometimes in the early hours of the morning. I'm seriously considering changing my phone number to stop this harassment.
