    Tired of this
These people call everyday numerous times.  They never leave a message, just hang up.  I won't answer ANY calls that I don't know who they are.  If it's real, then they can leave a message.  Otherwise they are nothing more than telemarketers or scammers.  I'm also on my states & national no call list, but that's just a joke!!

This caller is a skip tracer from a collection agency.  They use addresses to find out what telephone number is associated with it.  If you know a neighbor with the same address, apartment in the same house, etc., they will call anyone just to locate another person who may owe money for a debt.  The last time they called me, they were looking for an old neigbors daughter, who didn't pay her last phone bill from another state quite far away.

This caller appears to be a skip tracer from a collection agency, or someone imitating one and possibly a scammer.  They called twice looking for the daughter of someone who lived next door over.  I told them never to call again 7 months ago and they didn't until yesterday.  Don't give them any info if you don't know why they are calling.  Ask them for their full name and THEIR HOME NUMBER and their address and if the call is about someone who owes money and how much and for what.   That ought to get their goat.

Gatestone & Co. came up as the caller. left no message when I called them back to remove me from their calling  list said they were looking to reach a Michael Adler. I've had my number for almost 4 years. People have been looking for him since I got my tel. number. Whoever he is he is in deep crap. I even put it out on the internet 2 years ago that my number is no longer in use by him, but I still get calls for him. None of them ever leave a message saying what their call is about, or who they are looking for. I want these harassing calls to stop. I get calls all hours of the day and night, and I am not a well person. Enough is enough and something needs to be done nationally about debt collectors not leaving messages on answering machines and harassing innocent people.

The next time they call, demand a legitimate, physical mailing address in which to send a cease communication letter VIA certified mail with return receipt requested. If they refuse, let them know you will be seeking legal counsel who will get this information for you and sue them for intentionally harassing a non-debtor.

It appears Gatestone & Co. is affiliated with United Recovery another Debt collection agency and scammer. DO  NOT EVER GIVE THEM YOUR NAME AND OR SOCIAL SECURITY #. Tell them whoever they are looking for no longer has use of the number and to remove you from their calling list or you will take legal action against them for harassment. Contact your state's AG and make a formal complaint against these companies. Contact your senator and house member in congress and also complain. Maybe we can get some legislation about them having to leave a message stating their company name, the callers name, and what the call is about And all of their outgoing and incoming calls must be recorded, time coded, and submitted to a review board of the FCC and FBI for abuse and harassment.

When I call these companies back they are looking for a Michael Adler who used to have my tel. # 4 years ago. I do not have any credit cards, I am disabled and live off of SSDI, I am poor in other words and I am ill. They needs to stop calling and make sure they have a verified tel # for this guy.

hey moron, I live on SSDI and am ill and disabled and poor! I am using the local library to access the internet, and they keep calling for Michael Adler which is not me.  have no credit cards, never have. I do not drive so have never leased or rented a vehicle. Did you ever think these [***] just call the number last in their records for the people they are looking for and actually do harass innocent people? I have no debt and never have had any. maybe a missed payment here and there over the years but always paid the next month, and again I am not Michael Adler. I looked him up on the internet and he lived in my City of Cambridge MA but not in the building I live in, nor on my street, nor in the same section of the city. I've been getting calls like this from banks, credit card companies and debt collectors since I got this number and I am done with it. give me your home phone number and let me call it at all times of th day leaving no message on your machine, waking you up at all hours of the day and night. Then tell me with sleep deprivation how you are sympathetic to debt collection companies. Bad enough I have to deal with insomnia to begin with, and then when I do finally get some sleep to have it interrupted after an hour or two by these insensitive nimrods. I dare you to post your home phone number here. Every time they call me  I'll call you, ok? The very least they can do is leave a message on my machine, everyone else I know does, doctors, case workers, SSA, friends, family. Why can't they? Why can't they speak clearly and succinctly when we have to call them back to get our numbers removed when they are in the wrong with bad/outdated information?

Guess what not all of the people they are calling are the people you are looking to collect from. Why can you never leave a message on an answering machine? Why can't you do your jobs to verify a tel. # before hand still belongs to the debtor? Sorry but you have no excuse to not do your job properly and fall back on we all owe you money, when we clearly do not. For 4 years now I have been getting calls for Michael Adler's debt, and I am not he. Stop harassing me! I have no credit cards, never have just for this reason. If I cannot pay for it in cash I don't buy it. I do not even have a checking account also for this reason or a debit card. The  problem is clearly with people like you and your attitude that anyone who might owe money is scum, we are not, we are people and have rights, even if you believe otherwise the laws of our country stat we do, especially those who actually owe no debt and who you all harass because you have a telephone number that is out dated and no longer belongs to the person(s) you are looking for..

I received a call from this number and a very rude caller said that the credit debt that I owed would now be handled under the superior court in my state because I wasn't making my payments. He said that I am being sued and that my home would have a lien put on it. I tried to explain to the caller that I have a debt consolidator handling my creditors. He didn't care. All he said is that I will be receiving a summons to appear in the superior court and that I should have a good lawyer present. I am terrified of losing my home, etc. My husband died five years ago and I'm barely making ends meet. I can't afford a lawyer. What am I to do?

Generally speaking, debt collectors cannot put a lien on your home.

State laws heavily regulate what kinds of liens can be put on residential property. If the original contract says nothing about a lien on a residential property, then no lien can be put on the property if the loan is not paid.

Don't worry about it for now, talk to your debt consolidator about this.

There have been a lot of people getting calls from scammers trying to scare them into paying debts that are not theirs, or past the statute of limitations, etc. etc.

I find it interesting the caller did not demand you immediately pay the debt balance. Scammers will demand some kind of payment by irreversible and untraceable money transfer services. And none of that money paid will go towards your current debts.

Perhaps this is one of the creditors that does not want to wait for their money or work with the debt consolidator. But did the caller mention the name of the company that is suing you ? If you get a real summons from a real court, that information will be in the summons. And emails cannot be used to issue summons.

Let us know if you actually get a summons.

They are basically trying to scare some money out of you.   In most cases these kinds of debt collectors do not go to court, they rely on threats.

If you in fact are being sued, then the attorney for the other side would have sent you a letter attempting to settle the matter out of court before going to actual litigation.  You would not hear about a law case by way of a cold call from a debt collector. As a general rule debt collectors are not licensed to practice law.  Most legitimate attorneys do not cold-call the other parties and inform them of a law case.  There is almost always a paper trail in most lawsuits.

Demand a debt validation letter from this person and demand that it be sent by US mail.  E-mail no good.  Then, if you do get a letter -- talk to the debt consolidator.  At that point you will at least have something concrete.

If  a summons is going to be served on  you,  that would mean that a legal complaint has already been filed.   You can check this out by going  down to your local courthouse and checking the civil defendants list.  There is a clerk at the courthouse public counter who can help you on this.  Chances are, no case has been filed.

But again, if a legal complaint was going to be filed against you, you would have heard about it from the attorney for the other side.  There would at least be some sort of paper trail.

All in all, this looks like a typical debt scamming operation.  They are simply relying on fear and threats to get money out of you.   These people appear to be located in Alabama.  As a practical matter there is little they can do against you if you live in another state.

In order for a lien to occur there would have to be an actual judgment, against you,  which means you would have to have been served by someone licensed to serve process in your state.  You would then have documents that you can take to your own attorney.

Remember, if you are served with process and you check the documents out at your local county courthouse, you will have to seek legal  assistance  in answering the complaint.  But I don't think that is going to happen.

There are legal aid societies and pro-bono attorneys  that will sometimes take a case for little or no money.  You shouldn't let that bother you.

Well, as I said, this looks like noting more than an attempt to scare some money out of you.   Don't let these people push you around.  Read up on your rights.

Just looks like a total scam to me.

Got a call from this number, but when the machine answered, they hung up. Per above calls this might be American Express, but neither my husband nor myself have ever had anything with American Express. If they are trying to reach someone else through me, they never will. I do not answer unknown calls.

This company contacted a relative with vague message, when I returned the call on behalf of my mother, they would not answer the basic question of what is the nature of This Business that is calling?  If it is financial, debt collection?  WHAT?  I wanted the general nature of the business before I am going to answer any questions or discuss anything.  And the information I was requesting was for the Business calling, NOT the "personal matter".  If it were legit, I would expect a Legitimate answer from the caller.  I won't play with unknowns, and I certainly will not share personal information with someone on the phone that will not identify themselves and the reason for calling.

Got a call from "Batestone and Co.........Don't have a clue who it is as they didn't leave a number,  extension # or who was calling for what!  They called and let it ring 4 times,  hung up when the machine came on and then called right back again.  Needless to say,  I don't answer call from places or numbers I don't recognize.  Now that I've read some reviews on here I'm not ever going to answer and take abuse from fools like that especially since I don't have an AMEX or any other credit card and never have!!  They need to sic their minions on someone else.
