- scam alert replies to furiousHad the same problem. Called American Express and of course they had no record of this so called card with my Husband and son's name on it. A total scam, I have reported this number to the Attorney General and will not answer their calls anymore. Don't give out any info.
- pennySomeone called from this number for my husband. She identified herself as Tina from Gatestone but told me it was a private business matter.

I received this call on my cell phone from a woman claiming to be from "Gatestone", a collection company, regarding an old American Express bill. The first tip-off that this was a SCAM call was that the credit card account she referred to was over 10 years old! Also, "866-" is typically a non-area code used by pay-as-you-go cell phones, NOT a geographic or toll-free number of a legitimate business. Finally, the caller spoke like an uneducated person, not a trained professional, in mispronouncing my name and insisting that I give her the "last 4 letters of my SS number" before answering my questions about the legitimacy of "Gatestone" company.
Bottom line: NEVER give this caller your personal ID information and ALWAYS insist on obtaining their legitimate business EIN number!- Caller: Gatestone
- Vera AshleyRepeated phone calls from this number. Asking for person that does not live here.
- shay replies to P. CrawfordMy aunt works for a finance place and she said that a lot of time these collection places use Skip Trace. They will put in your address and get your neighbors address and phone number and then start calling them. Or they'll find anyone who is or was ever related to you by marriage. Eventually you'll get tired of random people telling you that someone is looking for you and will eventually end up calling back.
- pissed offI got a voice mail from this # today stating it is an attempt to collect a debt. What was weird is that the caller (Josh) asked for me and/or a friend of mine who lives in another state. We don't have any joint debt together and so when I called the # back, they wouldn't give me any more info until I verified some information-which I refused. I called my friend and he has no idea what it could be about either. I'm sure it is a scam!

- Abby| 1 replyThey called me twice now. First time they said that I had court in a couple days, but no information about what court, where, what time, etc. Just a court date. Said they would serve me at my house and my job.
Now they call stating that I need to be at my house or my job up to 4pm on the date they originally said was the court date with a valid photo ID so I could be served a summons.
So which is it? Is there court tomorrow or a summons tomorrow?
I don't even think these people know where I live or work. I have changed jobs 5 times and moved more than that since the name that they are referring to me by. That's what is so confusing about all of this.
Oh yea. And my mom said they called her house too.
I really wonder what is going on.- Caller: 866-251-0892 Lauren Winters

- christina| 6 repliesyou guys are all morons for picking on debt collectors. when in all fairness they are just doing there job. so why dont you all start doing for job, and pay the money YOU spent :)
- Badge714 replies to christinaLook at the foreign SHILL! Got a LIVE one here folks! JD eh? Is that "Juvenile Delinquent"? or, "Just Dumb"? So many choices! Shouldn't you be working hard, in that foreign boiler room, trying to scam people out of money? Get off the internet! Your boss is paying you R118 rupees a day. Earn it! You could go back to school you know, it (humm) wouldn't be a bad idea.
- Elspeth replies to BIGBEAROr, more likely, he's a shill.
- ShillKill replies to christina| 3 repliesIs English your first language? I am having trouble comprehending what you wrote due to poor grammar on your part.
In any case, what is your evidence that anyone posting here owes money? The burden of proof is on the collector to "prove" they own the debt and it is rightfully owed to them. What if I called you and claimed you owed me $1,000. You spent the money, now pay up you deadbeat! - christina replies to ShillKill| 2 repliesyou and the other tool above who decided to comment are both low lives. and actually if you read the comments above many people have stated that this company is calling them due to owed debt.
now the way i look at it.. when you take out a credit card you sign a contract that firmly states you are required to make a payment on the account every 30 days... now just because you all are failing to do so you guys are making fun of people who do the dirty wook for amex or whatever other collection company... please lets get real here. just dont take out money that you know you can not pay back :) - ashley| 2 repliesi agree with Christina. I have multiple credit cards but guess what? I make sure to pay all my bills on time. So you are all snapping at people for sticking up for debt collectors ... did you ever think that debt collectors make pretty damn good money to collect YOUR debt? ... Anyways everyone on here i have done my research and this number that has been contacting you is a company called Gatestone and they work on behalf of amex. Guess what? The reason as to why they call and dont just hand out information when you request it is because they need to verify the are speaking to the right party. If you all want more information since it seems like you both are very small minded. Try using google or better yet call Gatestone and veirfy yourself. i am more than sure you can find out plenty of info. :)
- Jim replies to furious| 2 repliesThe only reason they had that information is it is provided to them by American express. All you people complaining should just pay your bill. I got lots of calls from gate stone. Then I called American express and confirmed they are legitimate.
- ChrisJust called the number. Spoke to a shady guy named Wilson, who would only identify themselves as a company named Gatestone. He was very uninformative and tried to put the blame back on me (surely you have a relationship with one of the companies we have in our database.) Ridiculous. I reported them to the FCC.

- HarleyI called them back and they mumble their name at the beginning of their answering service and ask you to hold for the next representative. I got a very non pleasant woman who also mumble the name and I finally got her to annunciate the name and she said gate stone and what did I want. I said I wanted to know who the hell they are and got a snippy "who the hell we are? We are a financial institution, what is your name?" To which I replied that's none of her business although she obviously knew since she had caller I'd and oddly enough, the same number then called my husbands cell phone. Need less to say, the number is now blocked. I suspect they are affiliated with American Express. I don't mind talking to real collection company but when they are deceptive, forget it.
