Is this a known hoax?

my mom received a call from this number, she said they called themselves H and R... and wouldn't tell her what it was regarding but they needed to speak with me.  I'm not sure what the caller ID said. I want to know more about this.  Should I call them back?

I got a call for a family member from a Carla Mathews at this number - they would not say what it is about - so I said good bye.  They should send a registered letter if it is that important.

I just got a message from this place too.  If it is HR Acct then it is a collection agency for one of the local hospitals in Iowa.

Received voicemail from Chris Means to call him back at this number.

they asked for verification of employment

have  you   been  in  the  hosital recently   for  Centegra  it  is  a bill collector  foe   a  past  due hospital bill

They left me a message at work - "personal message for ...."  No details included.

Medical debt collector sometimes number will come up as 000-000-0000  or 866-276-0922.

Debt collector for hospitals...told me that if not paid would pursue legal action!  What legal action could they possibly take for a hospital bill?  If you don't have the money you don't have the money!  Can I really be taken to court or arrested for a $800 hospital bill?  I'm worried now.

i recently looked up the fair debt collection practices act, since I'm going to school for criminology and law figured I'd find out what debt collectors can and can not do, since I am being pestered by H & R at work even though I am paying my debt with them.  Those of you who have received calls by this number and your family member answered, I will give you the simple reason why the debt collector calling would not say why they were calling or anything else to your employer/family member/yourself if they were calling for someone else: the reason is it is against the law for them to tell anyone other than YOU that they are a debt collector and you have a debt.  Any rate, yes, this number is a debt collector, and they are very annoying, look up the laws; particularly the fair debt collection practices act, it will be good information for you.

person called asking for someone who could verify employment for a driver. Would not give name or self or name of individual asking for. When asked what company, refused stating that he did not need to give the information. I offered vmail since individual to assist him is out of office. He did not leave a vmail. *69'd the number and got this. when I called teh company, they told me they could not search for the number they called. I replaied that if they call back then I will report them. Ridiculous runaround when I know they can reseearch the number....he may not been able personally, but the company can.

Not in IA im in NE and i got one from a Joe Walker....pretented to be my sister to figure out what they wanted but all I got was...VERY IMPORTANT gave number and she remembers...funny never spoke to him.

They can and will take legal action.  No, you will not be arrested.  They will file a suit through the local county circuit court.  Once the judge determines that this is a legitimate bill, he will allow them to send a letter to your employer to garnish your wages until the debt and legal expenses are paid.
