It is a scam. Do not give them any info. I don't deal with BMO and don't have a master card. They will just keep trying numbers until they get a BMO customer. If anyone tells you different on these posts they are lying and probably part of the scam.

So we should believe you but not the people who disagree with you? The call could easily be a scam for those people.
As has been pointed out - scammers spoof legitimate numbers all the time! Never give a caller personal information no matter who they claim to be. Hang up and call a known number for them, not any number they tell you to call.

Legit number from BMO.  They called me because a transaction was suspicious.   After verification, they confirmed transaction was legit.  They unblock the credit card.

Funny!  I hung up, called BMO since I don't have a BMO card with the last 4 digits they gave me!  I was assured by BMO that this was NOT any number associated with BMO.  Its a total scam!  DO NOT GIVE THEM INFORMATION!!

If you have a BMO card and are worried about giving out information to someone who calls you, tell the agent you're not actually going to give out information on an inbound call, and call the number on the back of your BMO card instead of the number that came up on call display.

I received a message on my cell phone today. I didn't know that Mastercard had my cell #. I called the number back but got nervous when it asked for my phone security code. I didn't know it so I hit "0" but didn't want to wait on the phone in case it was a phone long-distance scam. So I then called the phone number on my m/c bill, waited 10 mins. and there was an actual fraud message on my card file. They wanted verification of use of my husband's card because he is currently travelling. I checked with my husband and the charges were legit. So the voice message on my cell with this phone number was legitimate. I'm glad I played it safe because you never know, but this was legit for me. I got nervous when I called the number and they wanted my phone security code (which I didn't know so I just pressed "0"). If you're unsure, call the number on your card or bill, but for me this was real.

I received a voice message from this number stating that it was the BMO fraud department. They misstated one of the last four digits of my newly-activated card, so I was suspicious, and called the number on the card instead of the number they left. BMO confirmed that they were in fact trying to reach me to verify some activity on the card.
At any rate, the best policy is to call a verified number such as the one on the card in this type of situation.

The way the message sounds may seem like a scam, especially when you call it back. However it is a legitimate number. BMO security/fraud deperartment calling to inform you of some security concerns and a possible re-issuing of your card. Just phone BMO directly via the back of your card to confirm. In my case BMO was just doing a preemptive cancellation and re-issue because of info they received from police for the area.

Hi, I got a call from this number this morning. I call the number behind my MasterCard to verify if it was true or false, and I am glad I did. Someone really used my credit card number (not even in my Country). I am very glad I called. I cancelled my Credit Card. Thank you for your messages, it helped me.
