- b| 1 replyit's legit.. called them, my credit card had been used by someone else, they opened up a fraud investigation. They knew the details of my recent (real) transactions.
If you're still not convinced and want to be sure, just call the number on the back of your credit card as the agent I spoke to suggested- Caller: bmo
- Sam| 1 replyIt is very scary. How could anybody steal your credit card information when the card never left the house. My mother only did online purchases only a few times (or maybe not with this credit card) with Staples, Best Buy, and Future Shop. That card is hardly used but for the balance transfer.
Our computer is equipped with internet protection. Credit card statements were shredded, mixed and only a portion were discarded at a time.
It is just plain scarely. My mother lives in Montreal, somebody used a card to buy clothing, a lot of gas purchases at Calgary. How could this happen? Anybody got any experience to be shared?
I am wondering if we can request some of the purchase slips from Bank of Montreal? I am just curious how it could be done. - Sam| 1 reply"They are sending a replacement card out soon, as well as an affidavit."
Do we have to go to a lawyer for the affidavit? - tomWe thought it was just another advertisement to get us to renew our card. But the call informed us of suspicious activity. It turns out someone copied our credit card and charged multiple purchases on it. When we called, they froze it. So don't be hesitant to answer or phone back, this isn't a scam.

- BobReceived a call from them today to call Security. However, we had no BOM MC credit cards or accounts with them. Called that number but they could not find us in their computer.
I called local Customer Service dept, got transferred directly to Security and they also had no file on us. After third security officer contact, ABOVE PHONE NUMBER WAS CONFIRMED AS VALID, and they still had no file on us. Last security officer offered the excuse that probably they were trying to reach someone with a similar telephone number as ours, but, had misdialed.
At least, it is a valid BMO-MC security phone number, - gord| 1 replyGot a call from this number and called back the main customer support number and it's a legit call...just checking to ensure the last few purchases are valid.
- Philippe MarsteauGot called and was legit. My card was dup'ed and fraudulently used.
I won't have any cost, and my wife's card (on same account) remains unlocked. Mine is locked and I will receive new one within the next two weeks.- Call type: Debt collector
- Thankful CustomerI received a call from this number.
Ended up that my card was being used in Minnesota, while I was in Ottawa.
Legit number, never asked for my card number once.
I thank God it was caught in time. - JimIt is a legit number from BMO Security,my card also was fraudulently used
but is was noticed by BMO right away and my card cancelled right there. - Fred replies to JaredIt IS legit!
Got a call from 866-418-8151 this AM. I didn't like the automated voice saying something to the effect of please wait for a fraud analyst or fraud alert. I thought it was a scammer using technology to see which fish were going to bite! I hung up , twice!
Then I got smart and dialed the reverse number function (listed in the white pages=*69), got their number and got here.
Then I called the BMO Mosaik number on the back of the card and they confirmed it was their number. The customer representative confirmed some recent purchases and that they were different from my usual pattern so BMO had put a "block" on my card. After being put on hold she came back on to say that all was OK and the block was removed. If you're not sure hang up and call a known legitimate number or go to a known legitimate site (that you navigate to) to confirm things. Hope that helps. - GilGot a call from the 1-866-418-8151 number today and they left a message on my machine. I did not call that number but instead called the number on the back of my Mastercard and went through the prompts. Spoke to a client service person who indicated a potential concern with my card (irregular purchase) and that my card was BLOCKED. She verified the purchase and subsequently rectified the situation right away. (Card UNBLOCKED) If unsure, call the number that is on the card (just to be safe)
- Caller: BMO M/C Fraud Investigator
- JDThis is supposedly a Mastercard phone #.
Said thanks for activating card ending in ####. Can purchase and take cash advances. If you think this may have been activated fraudulently then call this #.
I called BMO's 800 off their website, girl gave me Mastercard phone # 1-800-263-2263 and transferred me over. They have no record of me having a Mastercard.
Assumption is either fraud phone call, OR someone wrote/typed in the wrong phone number for someone else.- Caller: BMO
- Mr. IconThis is a legitimate BMO fraud protection number. I did receive a call from it, and verified the authenticity by calling the number on the back of my BMO credit card.

- Happy BMO CustomerNot a fraud or telemarketing call. BMO credit card services. Called to confirm a couple of large amounts charged to the card were legitimate costs. Nice to see they're on top of verifying card charges.
- anonymous replies to SamCard numbers can be skimmed from a variety of ways. It can be an employee at a retail store, someone finding card numbers online, or just dumb luck. If your wife had several charges from another province she had a cloned card - meaning somebody created a card with her number but their name on it (kind of a Frankenstein card) - it's not something you've done as a consumer, it's usually just bad luck for you and good luck for the fraudsters. The bank will never divulge to you exactly what happened, and this is due to privacy laws & to avoid a compromise of the investigation. Just rest assured that it isn't anything that is done by the consumer, unless of course you received a phishing email and have clicked on it & entered your personal information. Banks will NEVER EVER EVER send an email to notify you of anything on your account.
- TickedI call BMO Master, they said it had been used several provinces away. They killed the card on the spot. No new card for a week and have to sign an affidavit stating the charges aren't mine. Major pain to be with out it, but at least they caught the charges. Still think there is more to the story.
- Caller: BMO Master Card
- yaaa..got the call on my cell phone so naturally i came here and seen these postings so i decided to check my home number, and sure enough got the recording also. Called the 1-800 number on the back of the card and it indeed got compromised. Didn't notice any charges to my card however so not sure what compromised it but a new one is already being sent out so it should be good.
