- MarkGot a call that a new card was in the mail with details and instructions to accompany it. Also told that purchases would be capped until such time that I activated new card. Online banking shows no unauthorized transactions. SO stupid. Fifth time I have had my card cancelled and re-issued "just in case" rather than because of actual fraud. They know statistically they can piss of all their customers periodically by being overly cautious and it won't hurt their bottom line as badly as reimbursing actual frauds. I have too many BMO products and too good a standing history for them to do anything but pay me every dime back even if someone stole and maxed out my card.

- BarryGot an automated called letting me know that a new card was being out to me as a preventative measure. In the meantime, it mentioned that I could only use my MasterCard via the security chip, and that my viewing of the card would be frozen. I can still view the activity on my card however.
It turns out that a merchant I submitted my credit card information online to reported that their system was hacked, and reported it to police. The police reported it to MasterCard who then sent out automated calls and new creditcards to their customers.- Caller: BMO
- BillThis is legit, call back your BMO number at the back of your credit card right away.

- Ang| 1 replyTHIS # IS BOGUS!!! DO NOT CALL IT!!!!!
Got a call on my cell phone this morning from this #.I didn't answer it and was left a voice mail stating there was some fraudulent activity on my Credit card and to call them at this #. Thought this was suspicious as my CC company does not have my cell phone #. I called the # for my cc company that was in the phone book, and they verified they do not have my cell # and did not try to contact me. They gave me a # to call to report the phone #. I am on hold with them as I write this.... - TeenyahI got two calls from this number this morning, but I didn't recognize the number, so I ignored them. Came here and saw the posts, then checked my BMO mastercard online. Sure enough, some of my transactions made yesterday weren't showing up, so I called the number on the back of my card.
Told them what happened, and they confirmed that there was some activity on my credit card they were suspicious of, and asked me some verification information. After that, they released the hold on my card and all is well.
Since there seems to be some indications of fake calls (probably not from the actual number), I suggest you ignore the call if it comes in, and call the number on your card instead.- Caller: BMO Credit Card Security
- kkkIts form BMO definitely
- Caller: BMO
- kkk replies to AngYou must have embarrased youself when they say the number is from BMO =)
- smart| 1 replyok well this is definetely NOT A SCAM! who ever is saying it needs to get their facts straight. first of all these people are doing there job by calling you to verify possible fraud transactions. how else would they contact you? by email?!!!! seriously! note: if someone is calling YOU claiming to be the a financial institution and asking YOU for information then that's not good. if the financial institution leaves you a message to call back then its normal that they would ask you for your mastercard number in order to identify who's calling them back. secondly anyone can get your mastercard number even by just looking over your shoulder. The mastercard number alone is not what matters to a fraudster. If in doubt call the number on the back of your card.
- Caller: bmo
- not Michael replies to smartNever give your credit card number to someone who call you. If they ask for it hang up. Call the number on the back of your card or on your statement to see if they were looking for you.
There was a major Denial of Service attack on Mastercard and several other sites yesterday and last night. There's no telling what calls and transactions will or will not go through today. - MikeIt's legit. Activated my card last night, and they called this morning to confirm that it was me who activated the card last night. I didn't offer that info, they knew it and asked me about it. A fraudster wouldn't know i had just activated my card last night.
It's a legit number.- Caller: Bank of Montreal Security and Fraud Prevention
- Fraud Department replies to dummy| 4 repliesIt is legit, although I found it strange when they asked to input my card number into the phone. Found out purchases were being made from a skimmed version of my card.
- NormanJust got a call from this number, I'm not a BMO client never had a card or an account with them. Where did they get my number?!?!?!
- Caller: BMO
- Travis CalderReceived 3 calls from this number the other day. Today was unable to use my card. Phoned the # on the back, and she confirmed that they were in fact researching some potentially fraudulent charges on my account. I confirmed that the charges were legitimate, and everything is back to normal.
The number, from what I can tell, is completely legit. If you have doubts, hang up and call the number on your card. They are the ONLY official source for an answer.- Caller: BMO Fraud Protection
- Scammed| 3 repliesThis is FRAUD call. We got this call and made the mistake of calling them back. They said a new card had been activated and to confirm that it was us who activated it. When we called they wanted our card number and no security information. So we hung up and called the number on the back of the card and BMO told us it IS FRAUD. And they cancelled the card and gave us a number to report to the canadian government. Just because the number you called back claims they are BMO doesn't mean they are. And don't rely on what people post on the internet. Call the number on the back of your card.
- AnneThis number left a msg on my machine-didn't say Mastercard, just BMO. When I called back it asked to enter card #-didn't even say what card-went to branch and they checked out all accounts-all ok. They said to NEVER input your card number without first verifying who you are dealing with. BMO doesn't leave msgs like this-usually will ask you to report to nearest branch if your card has been compromised. She said to call your credit card company directly with a known number if you have a concern or your bank.

- Won't Get Scammed! This is a SCAM! I went to my local BMO, I've never applied for a BMO credit card, but they thanked me for activating a card, gave me a phony 4 digits and said "If you suspect a fraud, please phone us back". Thay don't have a wrong number, they're out to get info from you to fill a card in your name and use it in a few years so you don't catch on. The bank manager phoned BMO's head office and confirmed this is a SCAM. They said you tell this by if they don't say your name and give you any kind of card number. They say they're saving you from fraud, but they're the one's frauding & playing mind games.
The local bank manager & head office said don't answer this call, they'll weasel info out of you!
*DON'T fall for this crap!!!!!!*
If I can track this fraud # down, I'm gonna kill the [***] on the other end of the line!!!!- Caller: Fake BMO security
- OhOh replies to ScammedThis number belongs to BMO Mastercard as per most replies but you can always call the number on the back of the card and confirm the number that way.
- Dummy Up replies to Fraud DepartmentAlways call the phone number on the back of your Mastercard. Talk to them. Give them the phone number given to you. Ask if they called. They will tell you if they called or if your account is in good standing. The only reason someone sends out a call like this is to defraud you! This is a scam to get your number. NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR NUMBER OR EXPIRY DATE!! (except to Mastercard).
- Don't Be Fooled replies to mj| 1 replyThis is not a legitimate number. Call Master Card.
