- BobI returned the call to 1-866-517-5348 and the person that answered said they were Citi Bank Fraud Dept. The woman ased me for my account number but I stated that I was reluctlant to give that number out when I'm not sure this is a legitimate phone number. She then told me to call the number on the back of my card and have them transfer you to the Fraud Dept. After I was transferred and my records were retrieved, the representative wanted me to check a purchase on a certain date that looked suspicous. Upon checking the charge, I verified that the charge had been made by myself and she annotated the records on my account. This was a call worth returning.

- NealMcB| 1 replyNot only did the automated call ask for personal information, but when I refused and got a live operator, she ("Frantina") asked for my PASSWORD!! If it really is citibank, they are modeling EXACTLY the behavior that a scammer would do, and training customers to do stuff that will cost them all some day....
Citibank should call and just leave a message asking you to call the 800 number that you find on the back of your own citibank credit card. They shouldn't tell you what number to call - any scammer can do that....- Caller: Citibank

- LWReceived a call from this number, asked for my zip code. Was a red falg for me, and I hung up and called the number on the back of my card. They did indeed need to verify charges, as I hadn't used the card for over $100 in quite awhile.
If it happened again I would do the same. - Yiyi replies to VoVo| 2 repliesI got a message to call 1-866-517-5348, so I checked online and found this forum. Since there were varying degrees of responses, I decided to call the number on the back of my credit card instead, and went through the usual process of entering my credit card account number as instructed. I immediately got re-routed to the Fraud department. The gentleman who spoke with me just asked me to verify some recent charges, which were all valid charges. Then I asked him if the phone number 1-866-517-5348 is a valid Citi Cards number, which he confirmed. He explained to me that Citi Cards would call their customers if they detect unusual/suspicious charges, so it's just security procedure that Citi Cards does for their customers.
- SergIt is a legitimate number that belongs to CitiCard Fraud department. I called it but lady was unable to find my account using only my name as I was reluctant to provide SSN or card #. So I called 800 # on the back of my card and was automatically transferred to Fraud Dep. Some bustards paid for hotel in Tijuana with my card.
- Jennifer replies to ItoI also received an automated call from 866-517-5348 asking me to press 1 to confirm my name and then enter my billing zip code. I was suspicious and hung up. I called the number back and frankly, it still sounded suspicious to me. The person answered the phone saying "Hello?" -- no company name, nothing. He asked me for my account number, which I didn't give him. I then called the number on the back of my Citibank debit card (also a Mastercard). They told me that the call was NOT legitimate, not from Citibank, etc.
However, I then called the number on the back of my AT&T Universal Card (issued by Citibank) and THEY informed that the call WAS legit and that $3000 had been charged to my card fraudently. They closed my account and will send me the paperwork necessary to deal with this fraudelent charges. - b replies to VoVo| 4 replieshappened to me to, its a scam
- CriteriaI pulled this number out of my unanswered list and was ready to block it but checked here first. I then called the number and the fellow who answered simply announced that he was from "Customer Service" and only mentioned Citibank when I questioned him. I decided to end the call and follow the advice of other posters and called Citibank from the number on the back of my card. I was routed directly to the fraud department. I too had online purchase (however ones I make every month...duh... and Gasoline and Restaurant charges. All in all I am glad that they check this but the implication was that they were prepared to give me a hard time charging unless I had addressed this first. Could you imagine verifying charges in the check out line at the mall? A for effort D for execution....

- HLI received this number as well and, like previous posts, deduced it was either from Citi or a scam involving Citi due to the mention of "Citi" and the last 4 digits of my Citi card number. Like previous posters, I decided to call the number on the back of my card. The Citi rep immediately asked if I'd received a call from the fraud-detection unit, which clued me in that the 516-5348 number is actually valid.
I recommend that anyone who receives any calls like these from someone who purports to be a company that you patronize to simply call them back on a number that *you* have of them on file. These companies realize frauds and scams haunt us on a daily basis and completely understand if we do *not* immediately answer these calls and call them back via a main line, since their whole point, at least, was to make you aware. - cjGot a call from them this morning. It said it was an automated Fraud Alert system from CitiBank. Suspicious, I hung up and called the phone number on the back of my CitiBank card. There was, in fact, a fraud alert on my card. I wish they'd fix it so the caller ID says who they actually are.

- citi customer replies to VoVoThis was confirmed as Citi Banks fraud service number. They call when they see any strange activity as when you travel. The best action to take after you call them is to tell them where you will be traveling and next time, call them before you leave and tell them where you will be.

They will block the card until you call! - San Mateo LadyReceived a call on 2/13 @ 1:36PM with no message. Got Number from caller ID. Looked up on Internet and found this web site. I took advice and called CitiBank number from back of card on 2/14. Got to Customer Service and had to give card password and card number. Told them I got a fraud call and representative told me that unusual use was noted. The charges were not fraud. They had put a hold on the account until I verified the charges as mine. Removed the block and all is well. Don't be afraid to call CitiBank but use the number on the back of the Credit Card. That way you'll know you have reached CitiBank and the Customer Service department has all the information for your account. The fraud call came in 1 hour after the charges were made on the card. They are doing good work.

- James| 1 replyReceived a call from 1-866-517-5348 (about 10 minutes after making an online purchase on bodybuilding.com) with an automated message saying to call them back within two days and yada yada. The call back number was a different number as well (1-877-215-2648). I decided to play it safe and logged into my Citi account online and it had an alert on my account with yet a different number to call. I erred on the side of caution and called the number listed on my online account alert.
It turns out that there's been a recent surge of stolen credit cards being used on bodybuilding.com, and Citi was just taking the precaution and verifying it was me. Really quick acting on Citi's part! Turned me from being skeptical to impressed. - LolaThey called my son's cell phone number and asked to get the account number and pass word. Citi Bank does not have my son's cell number on file so I got suspicious. I called the number on the back of my card. Citi Bank's Fraud Department said it is a scam and they canceled my credit card and are sending a new card. I also gave them this phone number and the one they called me from the second time 877-215-2648.
Definitely sounds like a scam to me. - mr mazeThis is Citibank. They had a question about someone using my card.
It turned out to be legit. It was a company automatically renewing a membership fee. I am glad they called because,at first, it seemed that somebody was trying to use my card fraudulently.- Caller: citibank

- schindlerI got a call from this number. I didnt answer as I didnt know the number. I called back to this number and a lady answered. She just asked me to tell my account number. I said I have many accounts and which one she is talking about. Then with my home phone number she pulled my info and asked if I made any big purchase with my citi card. She just asked my security password and thats it. Its good to get a call if you make big purchases.

- Micheal| 1 replyNot a scam. I bought a Dell laptop using my Citibank MC and got a call from that number within about 10 minutes from finalizing the purchase. I hardly ever buy anything on the card so they were checking to make sure I still had the card and that the charge wasn't fraudulent.
If you're still unsure, I wouldn't call back the number on the caller ID; just call the number on the back of your card and the agent you get should be able to tell you if there was a flag put on your account.- Caller: Citibank Fraud Department
