- CindaReceived call, text and e-mail this morning. I called the number they asked for my credit card no. I didn't trust it so I called number on back of my card. I got the Fraud Dept. They wanted to verify a charge on my credit card for $1.60 @ a motel in Pennsylvania which occurred at 8:15 am. I told the customer rep I am not in PA so I did not make that purchase. It is not a valid transaction. She advised me it was not a swipe. It was manually typed in. I guess whoever got my credit card was testing it out by charging such a low amount. The customer rep cancelled my card and said they will send out a replacement. (She said she tried to reach me while the transaction was occurring so they could reject it, but I did not contact them until 10:00 am. I was sleep.)Thank you Citicard for this monitoring service!

got a text saying "Citi Cards Fraud Dept needs to talk with you about activity on your acct. Please call 8665175348 ASAP. To Opt-Out reply STOP."
First, would a fraud department give you the option to Opt-Out??
Second, Why wouldn't they try calling first??
Third, and most telling, I've never had a Citibank card
I called the number from a land line at work. The person sounded Indian. He asked me for my card number. I don't have a card, so I told him I'd call the number on the back of my card. My credit has been frozen for a year, so not much to worry about ID theft opening a card. - EJust to confirm what others have said: this is not a scam. I think a text like the one I got is an odd way for Citibank to contact a customer, and it did look suspicious. I called the number and the guy told me that he understood my concerns and I could call the number on the back of my card. I did that, and was told that due to a security breach my card had been canceled. The new one just arrived. Weird approach, but ultimately excellent service.

- bch.lvr.I received a phone call and text today. Someone tried to charge large amounts to my Citicard account. They were internet charges from Ghana and Air Pacific. Fortunately, Citibank realized this was out of character for my spending habits and texted, then called me. I did not call the number they referenced in the voice mail; I called the number on my card (and statement). They confirmed it was the Fraud dept. of Citibank trying to reach me and refused these charges. They also cancelled my card and will send a replacement card overnight. I appreciated Citicard being on top of this issue and contacting me.

- MidNYteStorm replies to MeDepending on how long you have had your number, it is possible that they are calling an outdated number. I used to receive calls from a bank asking for somebody I never heard of.
