- Jen replies to VoVo| 1 replyI just got a call from the same number, 866-517-5348. Same thing. They asked for my password, which, since they called ME, I didn't want to give out. Then, when I called the number on the back of my card, they asked the same thing. I didn't feel comfortable giving out that information so I declined to speak with them.
- Scruggs replies to JamesI would urge you to pay attention to this phone number. I didn't answer the phone because of the 866 prefix, thinking it was a beggar. However, there was a voice mail saying that they were the fraud division of my credit card company. I didn't use the phone number they left, but called the service number on the back of my credit card. A very nice person at the other end informed me that an organization claimed being a "charitable organization" and had charged $10,000 contribution to my account. I denied having made such donation to a charity I'd never heard of. My cards were immediately cancelled and new cards were issued. I would have never followed up had there been no voice mail. --Scruggs
- FischThanks for the previous postings. After reading many, I called this number back after missing the call. It is in fact CitiBank's Early Fraud Detection. She initially asked for my account number, but after explaining that I was simply returning the call that I missed and that I didn't really know who she was, she managed to look me up using just my name and phone number. She confirmed to me the last four digits of the credit account that was in question.
I had made three charges today: one at U-Haul, one at a fast food place, and one online at a pretty small office supply website for a total of only $10.90. She told me that the online purchase was flagged due to the fact that it was under $50 and that my account is brand new. She read me the charge in question, as well as the previous two from earlier in the day, and I confirmed them all.
She then took off the lock that was placed on my card as a result of the flagging from the Early Fraud Detection.
So, overall, it is a legit number from CitiBank and pretty darn good service on their part if you ask me.- Caller: CitiBank
- SusanReceived call on 4/26/09 at 9:12 AM from this number; recording said it was Citibank Early Fraud Detection Center and to enter my zip code and then my credit card number. I hung up and reported it to NC Attorney General's Office, Consumer Protection Division. Obviously a scam to get credit card information.
- blaineAutomated voice says that my Citi credit card had been compromised and to "Press 1" to be transferred to the fraud department. I don't have a Citi CC so hung up. I called my bank to verify and it was not them.
Googled the number (800-819-5013) and it lists it as the number for "glyndas goodys" at www.glyndasgoodys.com. Called the number and it was disconnected.- Caller: Scam
- wwe replies to Jenif you called the bank of course they will ask for your password to identify yourself that you are the card holder and not somebody else. if you wont provide your password it will just eat you precious time because they will dig you of security verifications for them to make sure that citibank is talking to a citi cutomer.
- wwe replies to Sarahthey are not asking you for your password. they just want you to verify it. you are the one who called the bank and you should cooperate with them. they are the bank and they all have your account information in front of their screen. you are the one who called of course you have to identify yourself that you are a valid card holder. if you hung up with them expect that your card will be freezed until they completely verify you
- MKThis # called my house several times today but left no message so I looked it up here. Since it seemed legit I called back the # but then when I wouldn't give her any info besides my address she said I should just call the # on the back of my card. I did and they said there were at least 3 suspicious charges from overseas and I confirmed none of them were mine. Citibank had alerts for charges of $8,000 something, $4,000 something and $326. None of them were mine although we use this card almost daily. Thanks Citibank! This is a legit number so if they call you, you can call it back or call the # on the back of your card.

- KTNo, it's not a legit number, and yes it is a scam. (So, I assume, are about 90% of these posts claiming it's a legit number). I don't even have a Citibank account, yet they keep calling to alert me that my card's been compromised and could I please give them my credit card information. If they were really Citibank (and if I really had an account with them) I'm pretty sure they would already know my account number. Funnily enough, about an hour later another bank called, "Wells Fargo", from a different 888 number, claiming my account with them had also been compromised and could I please give them my credit card info. I don't have an account with them either. If you get one of these calls, hang up and call your bank using the number on the back of your card.

- JC| 1 replyCalled my Blackberry saying they were CITI Bank Fraud for my CITI Platinum Visa. I do not use CITI Bank for anything.
- JohnThis was Citibank Fraud confirming a charge I made. I didnt talk to the machine but returned the call. This has happened to me before and it appears to be a legitimate phone number. But to be sure listen to see that it is the fraud department then return the call using the phone number on the back of the credit card in question.

- randall -LI got a call from the Citi Bank Fraud Department wanting further info for a Citi Business Advantage card that had been issued to me (which I did NOT apply for and I have NO accounts with Citi whatsoever.) The number left on my answering machine was garbled, so I called the main Citi number and was put through to the fraud department and indeed, someone had tried to open an account. The card had already been issued but not activated. so naturally, I had it canceled. So let me say, IF you get a call from Citi or any other concern, its in your best interest to call them at the number of YOUR choosing to see if actual fraud is happening. In my case, it was.
- randall-L replies to JCYou might want to call the Citibank national number and ask to be put through to the Fraud Department like I did. I too have no accounts with Citi but got a call from the Fraud dept. Someone had indeed tried to open a business credit card account in my name (which I did NOT apply for)and was able to stop it. If YOU call THEM, you shouldn't have to worry if its a legit call.
- dogma| 1 replyOK So I just got a new cell phone number, and this number called. I haven't even had it a day and I'm getting BS numbers. I don't even have an account with Citi at all. I have no idea why they called unless the person that had this number was making large purchases. Hmm.. makes me wonder.
I didn't even bother answering it. - GLAI tried to make a purchase with my CITIBANK card at an out of town grocery store for $200.00 - my children's address. I've done this many times before at different stores in the area. A message showed up on the card swiper that told me to contact CITIBANK. I've never had this happen before so I asked for a store manager what's up? She tried again and received the same message. If I didn't have a checkbook with me or some other form of payment I wouldn't of got groceries! When we arrived home, later the same day we had a call from CITIBANK fraud alert on our answering machine asking if the charge was legit, not legit, or if I would like to hear the message again. I hung up and called the number on the back of the card. Only difference between my experience and everyone else's is that my charge was denied at the store. Needless to say I'm not a happy customer.

- bi4290I got this number this morning. They said was from Citi Card Fraud Department and asked me for password verification. I said I would call back, than I called the number which is on the back of my credit card. They said the same thing and told me my credit card has a strange transaction. Because yesterday I was in the gas station for purchasing and keyed the wrong zip code, Fraud department called me for verifying that transaction. They did a good job and I appreciate their serious work for preventing fraud.

- WilliamReceived call from this number and it was legit, fraud detection from Citi. They had all my card activity, so I knew it was legit.
- BenBeen getting calls with caller id of Citicorp for the last 6 weeks. Always says to log in to the website or call them back. Zero balance for some time on my Citi card. Called the # on the back of my citi card - they have not been trying to contact me. I gave them the number - 800-388-2206 - they tried it and said it was not a Citi phone number and not to give any info to these people.
- Jim replies to b| 2 repliesThis is no scam. It's Citicard fraud protection as another responder learned. Why would you suggest it's a scam when you obviously haven't investigated?
- steve| 1 replyit's not a scam morons, it's citi cards
it's legit
