- nadaI keep getting calls from this same number on my cell phone. They have asked for 2 different people and I am neither one of them. The first time I called them back, told them to stop calling me and to remove me from their calling list. The guy hung up on me. I called back again, and a woman said she would take my number off of the list. 90 minutes later, I get another call.
I called a third time and asked for a supervisor. After explaining the problem to her, she told me that it takes 4-6 hours for the number to be removed. I told her if I get one more call after today, I would report them to the FCC. I don't care if it is a legitimate company or a scam, I just want them to stop calling.- Caller: citibank
- nocallsplease! replies to VoVoI've been getting a rash of these calls lately. Even AFTER I called Citi and verified the info. I checked it out. Its legit, but i only use my card for two recurring monthly charges for the last 5 years, So what is up with that? Suspicious activity? Perhaps its my lack of activity and they are goating me to use the card more often... They say that it was operator error in not removing my name from the automated caller
- Chris Moschini replies to Jim| 1 replyConfirmed. Citibank Fraud Dept. They were just calling me to verify a recent charge. Not a scam. It is a little nerve-wracking to give someone like that your card number and password, but I was able to get him to verify a lot of other information about my account a thief would have a very hard time getting (like recent purchase info from multiple vendors).
Definitely not a scam. - KevinIt's Citibank's fraud department. They called about an unusual purchase I had made, to make sure my card hadn't been stolen, and that I had authorized the purchase.
It isn't a scam.- Caller: Citibank
- Citi AnnoysCiti has blocked my credit card many, many times over the years. And it has always been over some piddling small charge. They have blocked my card twice in the past couple of weeks over $1.50 charge from a soda machine!
They have also blocked my card over $8.00 charge from Jack in the Box on more then one occasion. I complain but it never stops it. I have perfect credit in the highest 2% of the country, and still they block my card. They have no common sense blocking a card over such small charges.
Whatever you do, NEVER, EVER USE CITICARDS WHILE TRAVELING. Calling them before you leave WILL NOT HELP. The last thing you want is to have your card blocked when you are in some strange country. You have been warned. - Ravi KYes This is from CITIBANK Fraud Department. I used my ATT Mastercard for a trial of a Software Training CD for $3.99 (Just the S&H they said...) But I was suspicious, so I logged into my CitiBank account and created a "Virtual Credit Card Number", which is a "single use" credit card number. I set the credit limit at $5 on the virtual card. Sure enough, after an hour, some one tried to charge $39.95 on the same card for some kinda "business solutions". Because this was an one-time use number, CITI blocked it, and called me. I called back on the number on the back of the card and told me about the additional charge attempt!

- HThis IS a scam. We had two calls yesterday from an automated system telling us it was Wells Fargo and to say or enter our zip code for fraud protection on our account. After doing so, a few minutes later there was already a charge halfway across the country on our debit card. People are easily duplicating credit and debit cards with duplication machines at restaurants and gas stations without your knowledge. DO NOT provide your zip code or any other information. Banks will never send out automated phone calls requesting ANY of your information for fraud prevention or anything else. DO NOT DO IT. We have a police report in progress. The store they used it at said they tried to use 3 other cards prior to ours which worked.

- Fraud SquadPart of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions. Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

- Matt H replies to YiyiIf Citi wants to text users about potential fraud issues, they should instruct the recipient to do exactly what you did.
I received a text message saying "
Free Text Msg: Citi Cards Fraud Dept needs to speak with you about activity on your acct. Please call 8665175348 ASAP and enter pin _______. To OptOut reply STOP"
I called the number, the person who answered said they were from Citi Fraud, and asked for my credit card number. I explained that I had a PIN number, and they still persisted in asking for a credit card number. I hung up. I tried again calling from the same cell phone that got the text message. Like the first attempt, I got a person and was not able to just enter the pin number as the text message indicated. So I asked the person on the phone to use the PIN to locate my account information. They indicated that they could not and asked for my cell phone number. As whoever sent the message already knew this, I provided that information. They still we unable to provide me with any confidence that they were who they said they were.
This was not spear phishing (I called the number on my card), but I will not take that chance. They should have been able to pull up records, ask me a security question, and then know that they were talking to the person who held the account - JeannieAt first i recieved a text from this number from citi fraud dept asking about usual charges. I checked to to if its legit by googling. I couldnt find a accurate answer, so i logged onto my acct so see if there was anything strange. There was a warning asking me to call in a different number. Then i received an email and a call. I let it go straight to my vm. Anyway, turns out that its real. Someine charged 298.50 at a parking facility in Great Britain london. I live in new york.
Dont ignore this one. Its important.- Caller: citi fraud dept

- dangerI called too-- in my case, I don't even HAVE a citicard. I was worried someone had opened one in my name. And I was a little tripped out that this was phishing. Turns out my phone number but not my name were attached to an account. Hopefully this won't haunt me. Thanks all for posting.

- Sherry replies to Chris MoschiniGot a call but I don't have a Citi bank credit card (or any other credit card) so not sure why they would be calling me. I hung up.
- FedUpDon't believe those saying this is legit. They are the scammers themselves infiltrating these lists. Call the number on your credit card first. Get the real story the. Report the number that called you and any other information you have.

- P KamathGot a text msg from this phone # mentioning Citibank fraud services. I dont have a Citibank CC.
Yet, I called. This must be a variant of fraud calls. Callers are getting smarter for sure.- Caller: Dont know
- alinik| 1 replyThis is not scam. I contacted the number on back of my card and confirmed that this number was from Citi
- Badge714 replies to alinikYes it is. Caller ID can be faked. The number may be real, but that does not mean the caller is. NEVER give out personal, or financial information on a call you did not make, from a number you verified. Phone rings. You answer. You might as well ask how the weather is in Mumbai.
- Greg replies to YiyiSame here except there was a $549 dollar online charge. Card and charge canceled and await new card
