I received an automated call from this number today and it asked for my zip code. I called citi and spoke to someone in their fraud dept and it was a LEGIT CALL. Someone had made 2 small purchases on a citi card that I hadn't used in months from some place called collect&buy.

Must we call people morons for not knowing who the caller is?  Many of us don't answer calls when we don't recognize the number, because we get so many junk calls - a dozen or more a day - even when we are on the no caller list.  And we haven't time to check them all out.

    How about a little civility?

This number happens to be from Citi Cards fraud department.  They are checking on recent charges on your card.  Answer it or call them back.

This number is a valid Citi Bank Fraud Department number.  When they ask you for your password they are not asking you for your online account password.  You also have a phone password that you give them when you are calling them that confirms that it is your account.  I agree though that they can sound sketchy, and they need to start answering their phones more professionally, with more than just a hello, what's your account number/password.  I was just called with 2 charges made in Turkey!  Definitely not me, am glad they called, and that the amount was small, only $12 or so.  Had them turn off my account anyway though, just to be sure.  And the account has been turned off, through this number, so they are definitely legit.

This is CitiBank fraud prevention.  Call the number on the back of your card.  Complain to the representative that their fraud alert system does not play nice with voicemail and let them know that it is unacceptable and you want it fixed.  This has been going on for years now and it is still not fixed.

I got a call from this nymber but decided to call the number on the back of my card insteas. My card was indeed frozen, and the customer service rep needed me to verify some charges. I didnt ask about the number, but it seemed real, though i never give my information to incoming calls.

I got a call from this number wanting my credit card number, etc., and I wouldn't give out any info.  She said it was the fraud alert also, but I have not used this card for a long time!  I called the number on the back of the card and they told me it had no fraud alert warning for this card.  He said it was a scam.

This is Citibank - your Citicards card got flagged for fraud.  I called the number on the back of my card and it was, indeed, flagged for fraud.  She verified my information and just wanted to make sure that a big purchase was actually me.  Yes, I have been shopping a lot lately! :(

Also, when I logged onto my Citicards online banking, there was a mesasge in red saying Your card has been flagged for fraud, please call the number on the back of your card or something like that.

Thanks Citicards for being on the ball!  I would have been super upset if there were fradulent charges of that size on my account!

My mom got a new phone number and random people text her ALL the time asking to hang out (ridiculous, I know!), so it probably is whomever had your number before!

I also got a call from this number. I do not have anything related to citi bank so if this is legite then I shouldn't have gotten a call.

I got two calls from this number saying they were trying contact a Denise Hill for some fraud alert. I am not Denise Hill. Somehow they had my phone number. I called the number and it didn't say who they were, just that the conversation would be recorded.  I had to ask when I finally got a live body. They wanted my name, which I didn't give and phone number which they already called. She said she would take care of it. Hope so.

Other posters state this is Citibank.  However, I don't know why they would be calling me, since I do NOT have one of their credit cards.  Why don't they state "Citibank" or "Citibank Fraud Dept" when they call or when you return their call?  And why don't they leave a voice mail message informing you of the same?  Sounds like a "fishing expedition" to me.

I had two declined charges for an online purchase and then the final payment went through.  Within 20 minutes, I got a call from this phone number.  I did not answer, but called them back after looking up info on this site.  The first thing the person asked me when they picked up the phone was for my credit card number.  I declined to give it to her, since it could have been considered a "cold call".  The woman on the other end very graciously said she understood my hesitation to give out my CC number.  She said, based on my phone number, there were recent questionable charges Citibank wanted my verification on, and she recommended calling the number on the back of the card to speak to them directly.  Which I did, and all is well...

Yes, this is Citibank's fraud dept, calling to verify suspicious charges.  Not a scam.

I got a call from this number and sisn't answer because I saw on there that the people say it's a scam. I got lots of transactions blocked and finally called number on the back of the card and they asked me for my credit card number but I wouldn't give it to them because the number on the back of the card might have been hacked when the cashier took it from me when I was in the supermarket yesterday. after a month of blocked transactions I went into a citibank and asked them about it. they wanted me to give them my card but who knows if that was a real citibank or not... could be an elaborate scam... I eventually went to the citibank corp headquarters. They told me that I was a dumbass and that the trolls here were right it's not a scam.  I stormed out of there because although I am a dumbass, even I know there's no trolls on the internet. maybe elves, but troll? heh... yeah right!

I eventually went to http:\\www.ThisIsNotCreditCardFraud.com and gave them all my information and they cleared it for me. All the blocked transactions from the last 6 months finally went through too! I never knew there so many of the companies I shopped with were based in Nigeria! I'll definitely register my other cards with the website.  I don't want this to happen again!

I'll add to the post saying this number is valid. I too, suspicious, called the number on my card and before I said anything, they transferred me over to fraud to check on a purchase I made. Never can be too careful, though, so I like the idea of calling them back on their customer service line.

I got this call and wasn't sure after reading notes on this forum so I called citibank and they did confirm that they had called me about a charge they didn't trust as it was connected with facebook.

I just got one of these calls this morning, left on my cellphone's voicemail and was instantly suspicious. I googled for the caller-ID number and after reading this website, called the 800 number on the back of my City credit card to speak with someone in person before calling the number left in the voicemail which was different from the caller-ID. Because the credit card last four digits left in the voicemail did not match my card number, and the caller also gave a name that is not mine, and the recording was very loud and distorted, I was extra suspicious. The real Citibank rep who spoke with me informed me that there is currently a suspected phone scam with faked caller-ID numbers going around right now (early August 2010) and asked for the info left in that voicemail, which I gave him.

If you get one of these calls, I advise to let it roll over to your voicemail so you've got a recording of it instead of answering it directly, then call Citi directly using the number on your card to be sure you're talking to the real people from Citi. Better to be safe than sorry, the scammers are clever bastages these days

This is a valid citi card #. But I would still use the # off my card instead, just to be safe.
