Just got a call from Jordan from India, he sounded like he was in a call center, saying that my computer will be hacked if I didn't follow his instructions.
I was tentative, and questioned him, but he seemed to have answers. He said he was from Best Help Securities Co. and that something was flashing red on his end that alerted him to my trouble and he was just helping me out. I followed his instructions to a point. He had me count all the error and warnings recorded somewhere in the computer then had me go to website called Teamviewer, which seemed legit, and run their program. Then the program popped up with some computer ID and password, which he wanted me to tell him. That's when I balked and told him I'd call him back tomorrow. Every time  I questioned him he sounded defensive and told me I was just confused and got irritated when I told him I'd call him back tomorrow, like I had been wasting his time! The call back # he gave me was 1-866-539-8674. The last thing he told me was not to go on the internet. Thanks for listening, it was very unsettling.

More advice if you were scammed posted from a computer company.
    Great Advice To Follow:
What to do if you think you have been a victim of a scam
If you suspect that you've responded to a phishing scam with personal or financial information, take these steps to minimize any damage and protect your identity.

Change the passwords or PINs on all your online accounts that you think might be compromised.

Place a fraud alert on your credit reports. Check with your bank or financial advisor if you're not sure how to do this.

Contact the bank or the online merchant directly. Do not follow the link in the fraudulent email message.

If you know of any accounts that were accessed or opened fraudulently, close those accounts.

Routinely review your bank and credit card statements monthly for unexplained charges or inquiries that you didn't initiate.

I received a call from 866-539-8674 - a man with a heavy Indian accent.  He said that someone was trying to hack into my computer at that very minute.  When I asked questions, they never answered them and when I asked to speak with a manager, he said he was the manager.  Then I told them I was going to call their company to verify and when I did the man at the other end said he was the president of the company. I said: you're the president and you're answering the phone..."  He hung up on me.  So, that just verified the scam.
Do not do anything on the computer they tell you - hang up immediately.

    Not a victim today.
Scammer Alert. Indian guy called saying not to connect my computer to the internet because they are receiving messages from my computer. He then wants wants you to stay offline and check for some files which are normal OS files. Afterwards he tell you to connect to their website so they can clean your computer (and your wallet). He is a scammer plain and simple.

Don't give them any information about you or your computer.

I got a phone call from some guy speaking in a very heavy Indian accent who stated he was calling from Windows Best Help.  He stated he was calling from the Virgin Islands.  I asked him how I could help him and he asked me to input some commands into my computer . . . I asked him which computer and he said any Windows computer . . . I listened to what he asked me to do then I hung up on him as I realized it was most certainly a scam.   When I tried the number back another person with a heavy Indian accent answered and fumbled over who he was and who he worked for when I asked him . . . I quickly ended that call as well.

    older but not wiser
I have received several calls from this number.  The first call was to tell me that my computer was being  attacked by hackers. . I had a great deal of trouble understanding his accent.  He told me he would check my computer and see how much damage there was and it would cost between 60 and 150  dollars for a lifetime fix,  depending on the damage.  Since I was having a great deal of trouble with my computer I said he could check it.   It ended up costing me 350 and although my computer seemed better it still had problems.  Installing an updated Norton helped more, but, didn't do anything to upgrade my skills..   I figured I was out 350 and hopefully somewhat wiser. A week or so later I received another call from, I believe, the same person with the same line.  This time I refused to struggle with the accent problem so he had his supervisor talk to me.  Since  my circumstances do not allow me to spend hours on the computer I couldn't turn it on when he called.  He asked me for a time when I could. I gave a time but to my knowledge he didn't call back then.  To make a very long story shorter several weeks went by and this morning the supervisor called me back. His presentation is more polished and polite.  At this point I don't have a clue what is going on but I really am not comfortable dealing with these people. .

Someone from Tech Support called about "error reports" they were receiving.  They wanted to know if I was on my computer and if I was to get out of everything and he would tell me what to do.  I knew right off this was some scam.  I received a call from these people a couple of weeks ago and I "played" with the guy.  After about five minutes of him being pushy, I told him I had an "Apple."  That ended the conversation right away - because Microsoft Windows is not on Apple.

This time I played with the caller again and just plain told him I was not able to talk to him any longer, that I was ending the call and that I would deal with the "error reports" since he couldn't tell me what exactly the "error reports" were.  He kept talking about he was there to help me.  I asked for his telephone number since caller ID came through as "Unavailable Number."  He gave me 866-549-8674 and they were available 24/7.
Yes, and I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.  Good luck everyone!!!

Just rec'd call 202-811-3391, per caller ID.  It was someone with a strong accent telling me that my computer had been hacked into and he would fix it.  He also asked if my computer had been running slow, and it had, and what he told me made sense.  I called up all of the screens, as he asked, until we came to a screen that he said would give control to his technician who would take care of all the errors and warnings, and there would be a one time fee.  I stopped right there and asked what this fee was.  He said it depended on how many warnings and errors they found and took care of.  The minimum would be $100.00.  I did not go any further, asked for his name and phone number, and said I was going to check this out.  He gave me the phone no. as 1 866 539 8674, and said his name was Harry Williams (if I understood him correctly)  He also said he was with Windows X-tel, there again, if I understood him correctly.  I think I will contact a local computer technician to check on the warning and errors that appeared on the screens that I saw, however, I will not call the 1-866 number.

I recieved a call from 202-011-3341 per caller ID.  The call back number I was given  is 866-539-8674.  The caller was a woman with a heavy Indian Accent with a great deal of noise in the background.  I couldn't understand I word she said and she was very pushy.  She claimed to be calling from Microsoft Help and said someone has been trying to hack into my computer for the past few weeks.  Further, she said she was responding to sent error messages.  When asked her name she ignored me.  When asked how I could check the call's legitmacy, she kept talking.  When asked where she was located, and if her service was a result of outsourcing, she ignored the questions.  I became very agitated as my questions were not being answered.

She wanted me to settle the issue right then and asked me to minimize my programs and go to my desktop.  At that point I told her I was uncomfortable and that  this was not a good time and asked for her name and number (for the third time).  Finally she said her name was Kate and gave me the number above.  She also said to call tomorrow between 6 Am and 10:30 AM and that I must speak with her.

She also kept asking me if I was the registered user, which I told her I was. But in retrospect I think it is actually my husband.  She had his full name.

I called Microsoft to see if this was an outsourced service.  I was told that those sent reports are sent to a database and that a call never results from them .  Also, I was advised to not not call back as that is not how it works.

This is absolutely a scam as the poster earlier in the thread stated and as is stated on the Microsoft website:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx

Error messages only get sent to Microsoft on those occasions when a program terminates abnormally and you hit Send Error from the popup window.  Nothing else sends messages anywhere that could indicate a virus or malicious software is on your computer.

Just got a call from Unknow Caller.  Claimed to be calling from Bechtel - told me my computer was infected and could be fixed for a minimum of $150 and a maximum of $400.  I was told the FBI could fine me as much as $3,000 because my computer was being used by a number of people illegally.  I chose to ask him his #, which he gave me (866-539-8674) as well as his name - Andy Williams!  He sure sang quite a song to me
