Today, I received a phone call on our land line from "Kevin Smith", who was very hard to understand and had an Indian accent, saying that he was calling for Microsoft Windows to say that my computer was being hacked.  He was calling from 201-338-6210.  He wanted me to go to my computer and start typing in commands on the keyboard to help FIX and eliminate the hackers access to my computer.  I told him NO and he said I could verify that he was legitimate by calling back at this number: 866-539-8674.  I have since read on the BBB web-site that this is a total scam and if you follow the commands, you will allow these scammers remote access to your computer.  PLEASE BEWARE!!!

Hey folks; keep these guys on the line, (the ones trying to 'rape' your comp.) i.e. WindowBestHelp..have fun with them, I do, run their phone bills sky high, if they call on a toll free, line again, and they will, so have some fun.

It is really is a lot of fun, I and my wife and kids have a ball every time they call.
Love East Indians with names like "Kevin Smith" (these are not American Indians!!!)

A Huge scam ....I read back to them (speakerphone) the reports that have been received about their company..Not calling me again anytime soon ... Facebooking it too ! another number is possible 2013386210

This man with an Indian accent who identified himself as "Peter" -- actually there were two men; the first passed me off to a second "Senior Supervisor" identified as Peter, employee ID# 5033.  They said they were calling from Microsoft because they noticed blinking lights (yellow and red) for the past two weeks on the global server.  He (Peter) tried to convince me that a hacker had invaded the computer and had stolen the security certificates from various sites which hold personal information.  He offered to repair the computer and set up a new certificate "right now" so that the hacker could no longer enter the computer.  When asked how I could verify the legitemacy of the call, he provided this number 1-866-539-8674 [windows best help] and was offering to repair the computer at any time henceforth from this date for free if only we could begin the process of repair right then.  I hung up the phone and called a "computer person" to see if this could be for real or not.  He advised me to hang up and not to let them do anything withthe computer today or ever.  Also advised me to call the police, notify Norton Antivrus and Microsoft Corp.

two more calls today from Indian accent callers:  Carlott  Tincati  (212)677-1261 and then unknown name (201) 338-6210 with Indian accents.  these people followed another call from 866-539-8674 who were attempting to "repair" the computer.  they indicated they worked for Microsoft Corporation [Windows best help].  I think these are prank calls.

Received 2 calls from a man with an Indian accent claiming that our computer had a virus. I could barley understand him.  He gave me this #: 1-866-539-8674. However, this # came up on my phone: 231-4158.. No area code but I am (845). Total scam to hack my computer.

I have received 3 calls this morning from a man with heavy foreign accent claiming to be from Windows Best Help. He told me that they had received several error messages alerting them to the fact that I was being "hacked". He asked me to turn on my computer (I did) and then to hit the windows symbol and the "R" key at the same time ( I did). and then told me he would tell me what to type in the box so that they could check for viruses and see what damage was done. I said NO> a scam.

from windows service wanted to fix my computer.  wouldn't give me a return number..  the number above was to verify their validity  I hung up..

A caller identified himself as working in Microsoft in the Windows Tech Department.  He stated my computer was hacked, and the hackers were using the license on my computer to use illegal things (scare tactic).  His name was Thomas Jordan.  I did not provide him with any financial information or access to my computer.  THIS IS A SCAM!!!  I reported it to the Federal Trades Commission (877) 382-4357 and the State Attorney (800) 952-5225.  You can also get more information on this scam if you go to ftc.gov, and on the Search Field type Microsoft.  DON'T FALL FOR THIS!!  GOOD LUCK!!

Received a call from a person with a very heavy Indian accent.  He stated he was from Windows Desktop Support and that my computer was showing up on the Windows server indicating that I had been hacked.  He said that they globally monitored all computers with the Windows operating system and any alerts on these systems would show up on their system.  They indicated that they wanted me to check my computer and they would direct me how to do so.  When I pushed back on doing so, they connected me to their senior supervisor, a David Watson.  This person also had a very heavy Indian accent.  I asked him for some sort of identification or to explain to me how he was associated to Microsoft.  He gave me number 1-866-539-8674 to call to validate.  I tried to get him to send me an email specifically identifying the computer ID's showing up on his system and the specific tests he wanted me perform before I would do anything.  He told me more than once that it would be too technical and that I wouldn't understand.  He tried to get me to turn on my computer and was telling me that the checks they wanted me to do were all offline, which made no sense at all to me.  I told him I was going to validate this with my corporate IT Security team before doing anything and then just hung up.  Sounds like a phishing type of scam to me.

Just got call from this number, saying the same thing as the other respondents above.  I was immediately wary because of the woman's strong Indian accent plus my computer has been working perfectly.  I figured it was a scam (the female caller is NOT in any way from California), and I (supposedly) got her name, phone number, and badge number and said I would call her back.  I then went immediately to this site and found all these posts confirming that this was a scam.

Received a call  "John Smith" (with an Indian acent) telling me that my computer was being  attacked by hackers.. He told me he works for WIndows and would check my computer and see how much damage was done and kept asking me if I was in front of my computer.  I said for his call back number which is above.  I asked for identification and he said John Smith #6005
Called the 866-539-8674 which rerouted to an 899 number.  Googled 899 area code and discovered phone calls originating from 899 area code often turn out to be telemarketers.  Contacted Microsoft and they confirmed technicians will not contact customers directly for error problem unless customer call them for assistance.

They were still at it last week. Got a call from "Microsoft Windows." The guy with extreme heavy Indian accent said he was John Williams. He said my computer had been hacked and was in danger of major problems. He said I needed to get in front of the computer NOW and that we would fix it together. I said, "No. I do not know you and have no way of knowing who you are or what you want." He seemed to get very upset. He raised his voice saying, "I'm Jeck! I'm Jeck! You can call and speak to my supervisor at 1-866-539-8674. My ID number is 6012. I could lose my job over this!" I did not call that number. After I thought about it, I think he was trying to say "Jack" like John (Jack) Kennedy. It was kinda funny then.  

I recieved a call from 1866 539 8674, Saying it is windows service center and he wants to help me, my computer is downloading alot of bad material and it will harm my computer, he wants me to open my computer and let him clean it out. It is a scam, BEWARE!!!

I received this call today. Heavily accented (sounded Indian) voice of "Steve William" from "Microsoft Services". I got the phone number and address and told him I thought he was lying through his teeth and I suspected this was a scam and I was going to report them.

Just received a call from a lady claiming that their were receiving alert from my window operating system.

Ask for their phone number to call them back she gave me 1-866-539-8674 and ask for Amanda.

The call came from 201-338-6210

She had my name and address.

just look up the number and ended here!!! glad I didn"t give them anything!

I got a call from 201-338-6210 once this morning and said I thought they were a scam and "Johnny Dawson" hung up on me.  He call again this evening and I told him that I wanted a call back number and so I could verify his identity and he gave me the 866 number so I tried calling, no answer so I looked it up here.  
He was claiming that microsoft was registering a attempted computer hacking.

sounds like mine.. only it was a guy.

I got that same call yesterday in the evening. Man with thick accent said he was calling from "Vindows." I said, "I don't think so," and hung up. See above, I had this call before from a different number saying he was John Williams. Solid American name with thick India accent. And no, you and I are not sitting in front of the computer to fix it together. Something wrong here. Number was 201 338-6210.

I receved a call supposedly from Micorsoft Customer Support. I supposedly had a problem with Windows 7 and someone was trying to hack into my machine. "John Williams" want  me to go to the run field and type in a command. I politely begged off but said I was willing to call back. The number he gave me was 866-539-8674.
I then called Microsoft to see if they were aware of this number, they said that this happens hundreds of times a day and no one from microsoft would ever initiate a call, the customer has to initiate contact.
Obviously, this number is associated some poor characters. Good luck
