- ChrisI got a call and they said my computer was hacked and wanted me to pay them to fix my computer. I keep calling back and not say a word. they get really upset and yell in a foreign language. it fun
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Rachelle Thomson| 1 replyOn 5/10/2013 received phone call from Alex Taylor saying my computer sent messages to window technical support he had me follow his instructions to give him remote access to the computer. Not being all together bright about computers followed advice. Luckily for me my phone battery went dead and I locked him out of my computer and had a friend come over and fix it. Changed all passwords and everything else necessary to my privacy. He is supposed to call me back today at 2:00 pm for a one time charge of $18.00- $180.00. I Don't Think So.
- Snooky replies to Rachelle ThomsonI also had a call this morning from Windows help desk - they wanted to help me prevent hackers from using my computer in "cyber crime". But the thing is they knew what my computer ID was and actually read it to me over the phone - how did they know that #?
And as with other people, they had me look in my even viewer for warnings etc. & I said there
really weren't many & I had to leave but give me a call back # & I will think about the $82.00
they wanted to help me for future problems/security. They also gave me the 866-539-8674 call back phone # and even her name, Catherine Williams.
So the question is, should I report them and call back and threaten to do so?
And because they have my computer ID is that a danger? - Bruce replies to LisaI just got a similar call from an Indian sounding gentleman named Michael that claimed to work for "The Technical Department of Windows". I was very leery of his called and asked him for his phone number (which was 1-866-539-8674) and website (which was www.besthelp.call.uk). He said I was susceptible to being hacked and asked me to check something on my computer for him. He said I could do this off-line so there was nothing for me to be concerned about. I was half tempted to do it but decided against it. I am glad I didn't. I reported this to the FCC who told me that the FTC is really the organization to call. Their phone # is 1-877-382-4357. I did not call the scammer's phone number or go to the website he gave me due to security concerns. The website appears to be an attempt to spoof the www.besthelp.co.uk website which I believe is legitimate.
- CaroleThese same Indian sounding people keep calling many times a week. Have repeatedly told them to stop to no avail. They want to fix a virus in windows software
- Caller: 18665398674
- Jane replies to LisaI just had the same type of call. would not let him into my computer and called for help/advice from someone I trust. They said it was a SCAM.
- T. EdwardsSame scam being run 5/28/2013 from "Harry Parker" who gave 866-539-8674 to call back.
Shame on these scammers -- how can I shut them down??- Caller: Windows Best Help

- BrendaJust received a call from "Jacob Black" who said he was from the Windows security team and that he had detected that our computer had inadvertently downloaded some viruses and he was going to help me eradicate them. The only trick was that I just needed to go to my computer and do as he instructed.
He very definitely had an Indian or Middle Eastern accent and was very definitely calling from a "sweat shop" filled with many other (and similarly-intoned) colleagues.
I asked to take his number and call his supervisor back. He gave me 866.539.8674 however caller ID said he was calling from 102020113341- Caller: Name Not Found / "Windows Security"
- GaryGot a call from 202-011-3341 and didn't answer it as I was pretty sure that the caller was up to no good when I saw the caller ID display that # (which is bogus) and the name V06131031310117.
- ShellyCalled several times saying my computer has been hacked and said his name was Max employee #20095.
I called back and asked to speak with a supervisor and he got upset so I hung up on him.- Caller: Windows Best help
- Richard replies to P.PowersThey just got me and got into computer and worked around supposedly fixing it - What do I do now? Please help
- Richard Jones| 1 replyReceived call and allowed into computer. Now sorry I did because I also paid them by credit card. Now I have to post credit alerts and change id's. How will I know that they are not just tracking the keystrokes.
- Caller: Windowsbesthelp.com
- Mike-in-MD replies to Richard JonesUnfortunately there is a good chance they did install something that tracks your keystrokes and sends your logins and passwords, credit card info etc to them when you are online. It is also likely the copied all the files from your computer while they had access and they are going through them offline to search for those type of items. Do not use your computer online until you have had it checked and cleaned by a reputable tech support company. If you used your compromised computer to change logins and passwords, they likely have the new ones. You may need to go to a neighbor or friend's house and use their computer to change logins and passwords again.
- bruce montgomeryI just got the same phone call saying my computer has been hacked. He said his name was Kevin Peterson with a thick indian accent, and multiple breaks in the line. I gave him no information because the phone call sounded fake. All I can say is hang up. Give them no information!

- Anne replies to Derek| 1 replyThank you Derek....That info was very helpful to me. I got a call from #202-011-3341. The guy had an accent as well and asked me to turn on my computer but not to log in because someone was trying to hack into my computer. He wanted to know if I had a lap top or desk top??????. I asked him to give me a number to call him back and he gave me #866-539-8674. After I did not call him back, he called me back and of course I did not take the call. I believed it was a scam as well and now I am convinced after reading all the posts this morning.
- Dirk HamlinThey called me and talked to my wife. They said that their system indicated that my computer had a problem. They told me to press windows-R and when I asked them what the next step was they wanted to make sure that I did it. When I insisted on knowing the whole process of what they were going to do. They hung up on me.

- JFCSome guy named Steve Wattson called, with an Indian accent. I suspect he was imitating the accent, as it was not convincing. Tip #1. He had my name and address, and said that he was calling to disable one of my computers with an illegal copy of Windows. I'm suspicious of anyone knowing what kind of tech I own, so I denied having a computer with Windows. I asked him for his supervisors name and phone number and that I would call back. He gave the 866-539-8674 number, ext. 20092. He tried to get me on the phone with a "supervisor", but I hung up when he transferred the call. The background sounded like a busy call center. I wonder if that was the case, or background music to make it sound like a real call center.
- Becky replies to AnneI received multiple calls from a "Rog" and his supervisor "Mary" who indicated someone was trying to scam the computer of my 86 y/o mother (who took first call and called me. They asked me to turn on computer (did not) & they'd prove it to me. I explained we were on the No Call List and hung up-they called back 5x and became angry when I asked what country they were calling from as I could not understand what they were saying. They stated they were from Microsoft Windows and that someone. When I asked what country they were from they hung up.
- Abe GamezI received a call stating that he was from windows and that I had been hacked and they needed to reset my computer to protect my computer. When I asked to verify his validity before following any of his instructions he game me his mane as Jordan Dennis at the Windows help desk and the phone number of 1-866-539-8674. He sated that my computer would be shut down if I did not comply and all warranties would be void if I did not follow the given instructions. I checked the number online and found out others had received the same bogus calls...
