Rcvd call saying I owed $6000 to a hospital  in North Texas from 2017.  I told the lady that I've never been in that hospital.  I've never been to that town.  She got rude and said I needed to file a police report for identity theft or they would continue to try and collect.  I again told her I've never been there.  I also told her I had terminal cancer wish to not be harassed in the future.  She said it was not her problem. She was doing her job. I told her I didn't want this to go on my credit report. She said, again, not my problem. Pay your bills.  I'm lodging a complaint with the hospital so they will know what type company is representing them.

The hospital has nothing to do with it anymore.  Here are the proper agencies to report to, along with what that alleged debt collector must now do:

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

They call at least twice a month, inquiring about a debt that is over 10 years old. After 7yrs that debt is wiped off so why are they still calling me, I give my lawyers information and they hung up. They are very nasty and aggressive people. Something needs to be done because I block this number and they call me from a different 631 number. They don't reply sometimes when you say hello, just be on call waiting. Very aggravating!

They called asking me questions. They had my birthday correct, and asked for the year. They had my address and asked if it was correct. I again asked who they were and they hung up.

They're trying to collect on an account that was actually paid off by my insurance company but the hospital never notified the accounting group that the bill was paid ...the hospital actually sent me refund because between me and my insurance company we overpaid the original bill...and now this company is trying to collect money from me.

Rude, aggressive woman asking for someone by first name, corrected herself, from Karen to Carol.  when I asked what company was calling she said something about Medical . . . . speed talker.  When told she had reached a global corporation, she didn't care, she kept asking if I were Karen, oops, Carol.    I hung up on her and this number will go on the do not answer list kept at the Switchboard.

I just got a call from them. I am unemployed as well. I explained my disability situation and answered her questions on what i do get a month and what i pay on rent and my car. Which adds up to most of what i make. I got offered a minimum payment. I explained that i couldnt afford that with the three bills she asked about and my water and lights. She stated she was notating it as a refusal and reminded me i was on a recorded line. She repeated that statement after i confirmed that I knew i was recorded and im not refusing i just cant afford it. She then stated that it will go on my credit. I told her i understand i have bigger medical bills then that on there and to have a good day.

This number called my direct line at my place of business. NOT OKAY! Hoping IT can block the number. How they'd know my name and work number is unsettling. According to caller ID, it's Medical Data Sy. I assume it's a debt collector.
