- YF| 4 repliesI wish I would have seen all this before I gave them my credit card #. I thought it was strange but I was in the middle of midterms and just got a permanent position at my job which has been VERY busy, And they really cought me off guard. Im a single mother of 2 beautiful children who I am trying to get back on my feet for. Everyone knows how hard it is to find work nw and I got lucky. Then comes this call and I fell for it. They only took $100. but now what? Can this go any further? I cancelled my card & called them and told them I still did not receive any paper work so I will contact a lawyer and they can go ahead and persue with court. The lady Julie says "well if you have the $ for a lawyer you have the $ to pay this debt" I said look I called 1 time to do a 1 time payment of 50 and you set up an aoutomatic payment with out my consent. Something is not right. so I will see you in court. Thats the last thing I said and hung up. Any advice anyone???

- Betty replies to YF| 1 replyThey are well known scammers. Contact your local/state legal aid office to see if they can help.
- B| 7 repliesI received a phone call today from 877-906-7972 and spoke to an Andrew Taylor at ext. 211. He said that I was being sued for the amount of $2800 dollars. He was saying that someone had filed a complaint against me and said that I will be served papers if I didn't make payments. He wanted me to front $1500 and then pay 5 installations of nearly $300 per month. He scared the crap out of me, but thanks to this website, I feel a lot better about the situation. It is horrible when one has to call your cell and threaten another person with the prospect of going to court. Something should be done about this company; I am on shock that no one has filed suit against them for harassment. Furthermore, Andrew Taylor said that Julie Chi was an accountant however the email address read julichi@rfassociates.biz.

- Betty replies to B| 4 repliesHow did you get an email address? Did you have a different number that you called them back on? Please post any other details you can think of that might help the authorities (who read these posts).
- VPIYF, these guys who are trying to trick you into reactivating debt that is not collectible. This company and others buy "zombie debt," so called because it's not enforceable, usually because it's too old. They're hoping to revive it. By getting you to make a "good faith" payment you are acknowledging that the debt is yours. In cases where it's too old to collect, that payment resets the clock, giving them the power to enforce it again. DO NOT give them so much as a dollar. I'm amazed that this company is able to stay in business with all their violations.
- B replies to Betty| 3 repliesWell, this Julie sent me an email in efforts to force me to sign this paperwork. When I saw that is was from rfassociates.biz , that .biz prompted me to think of scammers; so I continued to research and found many websites involving their scams. I did not sign the paperwork, and simply emailed "julie" back and told her that my lawyer will be contacting them. I canceled my debit cards, to ensure that no payments go through on my card. I have not made any payments whatsoever because I have completed my research and believe them to be scammers.
- Betty replies to B| 2 repliesThey told me they had already filed a lawsuit against me and I should wait for the documents to arrive. That was five months ago......nothing....nada....not a peep since then. They are total scammers and liars.
- B replies to Betty| 1 replywow..they really have nothing else better to do! I know I don't owe this debt, but the thought of these animals having my personal info scares the life out of me. Did they call you after that? This drama just started on Monday, and has made me mentally tired and physically ill! I have reported them to the FTC and the BBB- I am actually thinking about going to the authorities. My sister, who is higher up on the police dept. called them yesterday and said to Andrew Taylor that it is well known that they are scammers and that they are being watched. I want this to stop so I have decided to not answer the phone when they call. They are the only ones that call me with a restricted number. How many times did you speak to them?
- Betty replies to BThe research I've done tells me they buy these debts for pennies on the dollar. Probably only a small number of their "targets" have the savvy to investigate them on the internet and post about it - or realize they are scammers.
Just given the number of posters here who have given them their debit card #'s, etc. probably many, many more have paid them something. So, sadly, it probably has been worth their while. They truly are bottom feeders, in every sense of the word.
I know that the authorities (FCC/FTC, etc.) read this website in particular and have, in the past, gone after criminals like those that work at RFA. I think it's only a matter of time.
I was initially so worried, I also got physically sick. I have had no communication with them since May 2010. I also reported them to every authority I could think of. I really don't know how they sleep at night. - yourdaddy| 2 repliesMerry Christmas you deadbeats. Thanks to all you, we will have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. We love all of you because you don't pay your bills. We can't wait for 2011 so we can take more of your pathetic money. The only reason we call you is because you owe money and you don't pay it back. You have never read from anyone here that has great credit or pays their bills. I wonder why? So, keep on crying and believing you can stop us. We can't be stopped you. The FTC/FCC does not get involved. Pay up & shut up, then we go home and have a good nights sleep and come back the next day and do it all over again.

California Attorney General is fully aware of Mr Taylor and he is under heavy investigation. He broke 6 federal laws in sec 805 and 807 of the credit protection act. ILLEGAL practices. Listen if its a legit debt they will mail you a letter not call blocked and tell u to call them. My original debt was 300 bank of delaware bank card. Im continuing my research and Law enforcement and The Texas attorney General is aware as well as Pennsylvanias AG. Hes pissing people off. The number for this RFA is 877-906-7972. She would not give me an address, but thankfully found it from here and had someone to confirm. Turned into my lawyer. She is sending me papers to write file a complaint to Attorney General. Luckily I did not give any of my personal info out. Beware!

- PLEASE HELP| 9 repliesOMG THIS IS HAPPEN TO ME ALSO. WHO IS THIS RFA? WHAT CAN I DO? WILL THEY ARREST ME IF I DON'T PAY?
- Call type: Debt collector
- GiG replies to PLEASE HELPNo, you will not be arrested!
This is illegal under the FDCPA.
Debt is a CIVIL matter, NOT criminal.
Please read the FDCPA and know your rights.
Get everything in writing if at all possible. - anonymous replies to PLEASE HELP| 7 repliesGiG is right. Know your rights. The FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf requires debt collectors to give debtors written notice of debt. If you don't get the paperwork, as far as I'm concerned, the caller's a scammer. Your best defense is to read the FDCPA to understand how the debt collection process works.
"§ 809. Validation of debts
(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing—
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
(5) a statement that, upon the consumer’s written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor." - annoyed replies to anonymous| 6 repliesOMG! They called today spoke with a friend of mine...told her I was being served by the court and that she needed to get a hold of my family members and let them know what was happening and for them to call if they could not get in touch with me. They have left messages on my answering machine but do not say what the debt is for. I owe them nothing. My mom and my daughter were upset when they received the message thinking I was going to jail. These people need to be stopped. And I was always told its illegal for them to speak to someone other then the actual person who owes the money? hmmmm
