It is ridiculous and appalls me that people will go to these extreme to collect money. I dont understand why people who have money are living week to week, but it is the way the ecnomony has left most of us. I previously received a letter reporting i would be taken to court for some automotive work i had done on my car in temecula. One thing, I have never been out there and never recieved another letter. oh and us bad debtors? how about a irresponsible Visa gives a 16 year kid a credit card and by the time he is 18 has developed a credit line of 25k? is this responsible with visa did to me? Att? best buy? to take a 18 yr old kid and give him anything he wanted?

So this bad 30yr old debtor is paying for a 18 yr old kids mistakes. Sorry angel we inconvenice your simple life.

Not everybody is perfect and has made the perfect choices. American is about REDEMPTION. :)

look at our own presidents, social figures, nobody is perfect and never let anybody tell you any different or make you feel like a bad guy for being poor or not educated.

Just a heads up, this debt collector got sued by a West Virginia woman for $10 million and they still haven't paid this woman a penny.

I got the same type of call, but this Tony Padilla called about my daughter owing money at a bank for defrauding, blah, blah, blah.  He had me hysterical thinking he was serving my daughter with papers to have her arrested (in another state).  Long story short, I did give him my bank account number with the incorrect pin (accidently), and the bank would not release the funds (he tried 5 times in one day)!  He never got his money, my daughter didn't owe anyone anything.  This place is a scam.  If you pay them, SHAME ON YOU for being so stupid.  I almost fell for it, don't you make the same mistake!!  Scumbags!!!

you need to "cease and desist".  You do not know what you are talking about.  Most of the debts that this type of company buys are actually so old that the statute of limitations has expired on them and they are no longer valid.

Yes, I had the same problem. Told me that I had wrote a check for $200 and now it is $1700. Well, I've only written two checks in the last eight years, and they were for down payments for my trucks. And at the time that he said I wrote the checks, I was deployed!! So, I went to JAG and we called them..they said oh, we will dismiss the case. Really?! Who does that?!!

Few months ago, I kept on receiving calls that shows "Santa Calara County" or "Sheriff Department" on the caller ID. The caller left threatening messages and repeatedly said that if I don't pay my debt they will serve me a court paper at my work. I am not even the person that they were looking for. Hoping to stop the calls, I called them and I told the lady that answered the phone that they have been calling the wrong number and theres no one by that name lives in our household. She said that she will remove our number from their call list. But 2 weeks later the calls started again and it's from the same person. First he said his name is David Allen then on his next call he said he is David White. I called him and I told him about the conversation their representative. That's when he started bullying me. He was very rude and he accused me of not paying a debt that is not mine and that he will make sure that I will suffer embarassment at work because he will serve me and I will be arrested. He also said that he knows where I live and where I work. When I told him that I am not Justin Aguilar-he said well what about Manuel Aguilar and other names. I said no and stop calling our household. He didn't stop there. He continued threatening me so I dared her to go to my work and serve the "paper." This guy is not only abusive-he is also full of s*hit because I have not worked for the last 10 years. My husband is our sole breadwinner.  I"ve been staying home with my kids! I hung up on that guy and called their main number again. That time I was connected to a manger and he even gave me his full name. He apologized profusely and promised me that it will never happen again. He also said that David White sometimes knows as David Allen will be talked to.

This company is being exposed tonight on Nightline (ABC). They owe a woman 10 Mil and won't pay her the court judgement.

Kind of funny don't you think? They legitimately owe the money and won't pay, yet they go after those people who either don't owe the money or have a time barred debt.

That is true. There's still some agencies who malpractice debt collections, and they should get shut down.  Those agencies are vicious, and i would be terrified to get a call like that.  

I'm a bill collector, but i would never work at a company who harasses and abuses people. Its simply wrong. There was a guy that worked in my area who got fired for arguing with an attorney.. why would anyone argue with an attorney, beats me.

At our company we are more customer service. Yes its about getting a debt paid,but there's no reason to lie, cheat and abuse! We must always show respect, cant force anyone to do anything, and i say that to the customers i talk to (we've been told to not even name them "debtors" nor "delinquent"). Debt collectors are looked down on, and i understand why. People might see collectors as evil, cunning ..etc because of the way they have treated people to pay bills in the past.

Its all about helping people get out of debt, thats how i see it. Not everyone stopped paying their bills on purpose.. some do, but a lot of them fall behind due to: not knowing how to handle their credit ( i was one of them) overspending, loss of income, so on... I agree with you all, but also keep in mind not all agencies are like that. its a shame that people get to behave like that and think they can get away with verbally abusing and threatening people to pay bills.

I received a call from a foreign speaking man for my daughter to collect a debt.  I told him she does not live here and have told them many times to stop calling my number.  He then proceeded to shout nasty,sexually abusive remarks to me, such as "I will f*** your vag***......Do you like to be raped.....words such as that.  I was shocked and went silent and just let him shout these vulgarities at me.  I think I was stunned.  After about 1 minute or so HE hung up.  I tried to call the number back to complain to a supervisor but the phone was not answered.  Until I read this article on the lady from West Virginia who sued them, I really had no idea who to call.  I never even thought of reporting the phone call to the police.

I mean, I understand where you're coming from but that can't be an axcuse. What if I just said "well, someone allowed me to do this and I did it, but it's your fault." That doesn't even make sense.
