I have outstanding debt due to overpayment from ei. This number called i told them im not giving any info . Did some research and turns out the government had called me that day. So even though the number came up as a u.s. number im pretty sure it was rev can. P.s. dont trust me dont trust anyone ... check for yourself

I received a call that had no number displayed. Said to call 1-866--864-5841 up until 9pm weekdays. Looked at the replies here and saw a mixture of responses. Called the number and it is very official sounding voice message. Got through to someone within 4 rings. (tip off number 1, you never get someone at the government that quickly). The gentleman asks for my client ID# (Tip off number 2, I don't have a client ID). He said it is in regards to an outstanding Student Loan (tip off # 3 and 4, He didn't have any info on me, so how could he know it was regarding a student loan, and also, I haven't been in school for over 30 years, and I never had a student loan - I paid by working through school).  I told him to have a nice day and hung up.

Got a call from 1-866-864-5835 and as a habit I never answer any 1-800s call as I believe if this is legit they will always leave a message. And then they left a voicemail message to 1-866-864-5841 saying I have to return the call the soonest and have my Client number ready with me. Before I even call them, I had to make sure this one is legit as I believe I never dealt them over the phone and I have no knowledge of outstanding issue with them. I verify their numbers here in this site: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/cntct/phn-eng.html and called 1-800-959-8281 CRA contact number. I reported the incident in 1-888-495-8501 RCMP Anti-Fraud Centre.

This is a fake number.  The CRA will not call you asking for your SIN number.. When/If they call they will already have all your information on the screen.

Left a message on my answering machine telling me it was Revenue Canada and to call back.  They're be there until 9pm.

I just got this message too. First time she said to call back between 7 am and 11pm eastern standard time. Then she repeated and said between 8 am and 9 pm. People really?  A unionized GOVERNMENT employee is standing by at 7 am or 11 pm just waiting for my call???  LOL!  You have got to be kidding me. Ever tried otherwise to get one of those guys on the phone?  If you got the call and are concerned that it's legit, call back, sound concerned and give a bogus address/client number & SIN. If he/she is legit, he/she will immediately tell you that the information doesn't match what is on record. A scammer seeking that information will not know it's wrong and good luck to them trying to use it!!!!

My wife received a message on our home phone to call this number 866-864-584. When she called back, they asked her SIN and home address. It grab my attantion they have an old home address which let my think it's scam so I told me wife to tell them we don't believe they are CRA and hang up. Then we called CRA-E.I. on the phone listed on their website. We found actually that number is CRA-EI Collection and the reason they have our old address,  goes back to the last time my wide had EI claim few years back. Although our Tax file  is current with CRA and they have our current home address, CRA don't share info through different departments.
My advice,  there are some scams out there but this number is not scam. It belong to CRA-EI Collection although it not listed on their website. Take this number as a serious matter cause probably you owe CRA some money or at least that's what they have on their records.

We got same message. I thought it's scam but after investigation we found its CRA-EI Collection. If you had any EI claims even few years back, treat this as a serious matter. Call first CRA-EI on their phone number listed on EI website to find out more about reason they call you.

I spoke to a lady with a thick indian accent. She said her name was Rahili and wanted to speak to me about my empolyment insurance. It happened that i had a problem with my EI but I had already spoken to someone a day earlier. She was wanting sensitve information like my date of birth and address. I told her my address and she was very interersted in getting the exact street number and city. When EI had called me earlier, they had asked discreet questions like what are the first 2 numbers of your access code; what is the month of your birth? I told this lady apologetically that I wasn't comfortable with giving my information to her because I needed proof that she was actually revenue Canada. She said no problem and confidently gave me this number to call the office my self. i googled the number and found this website.

Got this call today and they left the number 866-864-5841.  I didn't call that number back but instead called 1-866-336-7565.  Which is the phone number listed when I log into the cra website under the important information section.  They did confirm that they called me earlier in the day and got disconnected and then called back and left a message.  It is legit.  It was regarding an EI overpayment.
