I called the main Canada Revenue Agency number and they verified that 866-864-5841 is a legitimate CRA number.

I just got the same call from 866-864-5835. The gentleman was foreign sounding and  said have my client number ready when I call back at  866-864-5841 on voice massage. scam I think

Just because somebody says this number is "legitimate" or "real" or something similar, Their statements may NOT apply to the call you received!

This is a real Canada Revenue number. I did some research after receiving a message today that had my full name and to call back with my client number. I called the Canada Revenue Debt number 1-866-864-5823 and they confirmed they had left me a message about a missed payment, which I had missed.

My spouse received a call and they left a message saying "this is a very important message for (his name) from the Canada Revenue Agency. We have been trying to contact you for some time now and it is urgent for you to call us back right away at 1-866-864-5841. When you are calling us please have your account number or social insurance number ready so we can help you with your situation".  Do not call this number and give out personal information.

It is my disbelief that this has not been put to an end since this has been going on well over 8 years, since Nov 17, 2010.  If this scam didn't work, they wouldn't still be doing it!!

I just got a voicemail from 1-866-864-5835 telling me to call 1-866-864-5841, I called back as it was someone claiming to be from the CRA.  The number asks you to enter in your SIN, which I did not do.  When I was 'transferred to an agent' he started by asking me for my SIN.  I told him I wanted to make sure it was the CRA first and he said it was, I asked him for his name and he said his name did not matter.... I asked why the number was different than what is listed for the CRA on their website and he replied 'why would you call this number then'.  These people are awful.  Has I initially answered the call instead of hearing the voicemail I may have given my SIN.

I called the real CRA and inquired. The gentleman I spoke to explained, that a real CRA representative, must and will always answer with their name and their Agent I.D. number.
He suggested that you ask the person their Agent ID number, and ask them to leave a note on your file. That way when you call the CRA, the note will be there, and you will know it was the real CRA calling after all.

Woman phoning and claiming she works for the CRA and it's urgent you call her back immediately with your SIN number ready. Also your client ID number...we don't have those in Canada...
(Once I answered the phone and noticed she sounded a little sarcastic, like she was grinning while she spoke.)

It's a recovery agency passing for the GOC. When I phoned back the lady who answered made the mistake to tell me who they are. " National Credit Recovery"

Your stupid af if you think people are dumb enough to believe you over the actual real employees at the actual revenue Canada!! Idiot!!!

Called me at 6pm at night. Didn't introduce himself as anyone other than his name and immediately asked for me SIN number. Usually when I get calls from CRA or Service Canada they say "hello I'm agent #123456, and I'm calling from CRA / Service Canada in regards to....". Nope none of that. I told him I don't think the call is legitimate, because he was talking too casually with me. He said "no problem I understand, just call the number back to speak to someone after you verify the number is legitimate". Problem is I can't find this nunber anywhere so I don't think it is legitimate. I asked if they could call me back another time and he said he couldn't. So that was strange. I said "well I can't call you back cause I'll never get through" and he said "no don't worry are lines are always open". I'll just go to Service Canada in person.

I just called 1800 Ocanada and they advised me that that number is not in any of their database and I should report it to the fraud department

Good thing I also received one of those phone calls looking for my husband he knew his name which kind of scares me but again the phone number is not listed on revenue Canada but he did not ask me for any information he just asked me to call revenue Canada so you got a wonder these guys are getting smarter and more polite so I think everyone needs to be aware

Just had a call from this number.  Caller sounded African and had a very difficult time speaking English.  Wanted me to confirm my address and date of birth.  I told him that CRA has my address and I will only accept communications from them via mail and hung up.  There is no way this call was legit!  Be very careful folks!!!

Good to know thanks! I have been receiving daily calls from this number with no messages left...ever...and since ANY 1800 number is  blocked on my phone I never see them until I check but I was very wary myself...

Just had this number call. Decided to answer. A lady, in very broken English, said she was calling from Canada Revenue, so I figured I'd humour her and listen to what she had to say. She tells me the call is being recorded, and that due to Covid, they're calling from a cell phone and am I OK with that....said NOPE and hung up. I feel for the people who fall for these blatantly fake calls.
