SEPT. 2022. Claims to be Employment and Services Development Canada. I missed the call, and returned their call later that day. Tons of red flags. This is 99% certainly scammers, and if it isn't, this dep't of CRA needs to seriously get their act together. I think people claiming this is actually the gov't are either scam participants, or have been tricked into doing so.

Upon calling and getting through the automated system, you're bombarded with an overly verbose, quickly worded message about agents working from home because of covid, and how that may impact call/audio quality. This is followed by a live agent (scammer) quickly reading an (also overly verbose) intro including a full name, location, job title, and "agent ID number". THIS IS ALL INTENTIONAL... bombarding you with quickly worded, useless information in hopes that you answer their questions before thinking too clearly about it.

He then asked almost immediately for my SIN# to "look up my file", and insisted he couldn't look it up by name or phone number. At this point I couldn't have cared less if it actually was CRA, you don't tell a stranger your SIN#. period. I told him I was not comfortable giving him that information, then hung up. They've never called back. It's been almost 4 weeks.

Go ahead call them and give them your info and your money have fun

Claiming to be government of canada, needs my sin or login information

Called as CRA, left message to call back 1 866 864 5841. Asked for S I N and then to verify address. Said I gave them incorrect address, which I did not.  Told me to call back once I had the correct address.  They did get my SIN.  Am I at risk.

Recently, after receiving 3 voicemails requesting I call this number 1-866-864-5841, and to be prepared to provide my SIN when I called back, I decided to search the number online and found this ambiguous thread of responses.

So, I went to directly to the government of Canada's website (https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-de ... f-practice.html) and here is what they say on the matter:

"At Service Canada, we'll never call or email you and ask for your SIN and/or credit card number. Someone may reach you by telephone, text, mail or email who claims to be from the Government of Canada (Service Canada). They may request your SIN, or credit card, bank account and is passport numbers. These communications may even say that they need this information so that you can receive a refund or payment. These are fraudulent communications. "

Whether the number is legit or not, if you don't want to receive calls from this number, just go to contacts (on an android phone), click on the three dots on the upper right, click on "settings", may have to click on "advance settings", then "block numbers". Press the red + sign, write the number you want to block, and then click on "done".

You didn't get a call from this number but decided to arbitrarily put a phone number into the search box and offer advice?

Do you often look up known phone numbers when there's no logical reason to do so?

Well, I have neither student loan since 2016, nor EI claim since 1997, so I cant imagine why they call me, put me on hold "for next available agent," who then asks for me by my first name, then hang up when they realize they are talking to my answering machine, but dont leave a message?

Do you really think that shill will return after over a decade to answer you?

1-866-864-5841 GOC-GDC  called me today.  On my call display left a message on my machine. she is calling from CRA and wants to talk to me about my account. But when researched the number for CRA it’s not showing me this number because usually when I wanna talk to CRA it’s always 1 800, and then I’m reading all this comments here saying it’s legit some are saying scam. But then I found out that this 1-866 is from different territories like Saskatchewan, North Territotes not Toronto.

I got a call for this numebr. she told me its acall from Contacted Canada Revenue Agency, and at the first without any intruducing herself asked about my DOB & adrees , I ignored to answer, she told its ok you can call us back on this numebr between 8h- 16h ... its completely fake and scam. plesae dont answer these kind of calls, Contacted Canada Revenue Agency absoulutly do have  our personal informations in their files ....
