I called the 866-953-7906 number because Linda left a message... I called it, gave my name and verified who I was with the last 4 digits of my social sec#.  I didn't give him my acct. number. I said "look it up" and I gave the number Linda used to leave a msg.  He said my acct. balance was zero, must have been a mistake".  Wow! I was definitely feeling scammed!!! And, of course I was feeling like an idiot for giving the last 4 digits of my social.
   So I called the Capital One number for customer service (found it online at Capital One).  I went through several account reps... My first main question was: is 866-953-7906 a legitimate Capital One phone number... yes it is.  I didn't have to give an acct. number but they found 3 accts using my home number... mine, my wife's, and her son's... My acct. was fine... the phone call was for the son.

SCAM ! Linda left a message on my answering machine. THIS Is a SCAM. I know because I picked up the phone today and it wasn't lindas voice who answered. IT was some ghetto guy who was hoping to leave linda's message in my vm.

At least a previous poster has an account with Capital One.  Neither my husband nor I have an account with this bank.  And the one card we have somewhere else is paid off.  So conclusion it's a scam as this time they asked for my husband.  The other thousands of call we get daily are always for someone else.  Have changed the phone no. 3 times, we still get calls.  And do not call list has not worked for us either.

You are a lying fool. I keep getting calls from this number - and I no longer have an account with capital one. It was closed (in good standing) but these scammers haven't figured that out yet.

Got the call from 866-953-7906.  Want them to stop!!

1.  Don't give thenm your card number or SSAN!  
2.  Ask them to stop calling.
3.  If you are on the do not call list - report it.

Been getting calls like this all day. I do have a Capital One card but I just opened the account literally 3 weeks ago and have made one small purchase on it, in which I am not late on paying... The message was a recording from the same woman, Linda. She said please call regarding an important business matter and the phone number that I was told to call was 866-953-7906 but it came from 813-202-7244. I called the 866 number back and got a man with an Eastern Indian accent by the name of "Francis" who immediately asked me for my 16 digit card number. I told him no and that I wanted to know what he was calling me for and why I needed to call back. He said it was for collections regarding capital one. I epxlained to him that I had just opened the account and have a good standing status with capital one and asked to speak with a supervisor. He told me he needed information first from me and wouldnt give so I hung up. I called Capital One's fraud dept right after I hung up and told them the story.... was told that if someone needed to get information from me that they wouldn't be asking for it, that they already have it, my account was in good standing and that was obviously a scam and to report any further calls like it.

SO WARNING! Anyone who actully DOES have an acct with Capital One, call the Fraud dept immediately and report the number. Also, report the number with the FCC on their website.

Michelle from Capital One left me a voice to call back and take care of a personal matter. To ensure that no one stole my cc number, I called the number on my CC. They showed no record of anyone calling me and my available credit was intact (what a relief)  I reported 1866-953-7906 to the CC fraud department.

I received a call from 1-866-953-7906 and the automatic person (Linda) left me a message to call back to discuss a business matter. I called the number twice and after a few techinal issues I decided to look online at my account info and saw there was a message to contact Capital One at a different phone number. I then hung up and called the number I saw on the Capital One website. Once I called Capital One and spoke with several reps and eventually a supervisor, that supervisor confirmed that 1-866-953-7906 is indeed a legit Capital One number and Linda is the name of the person who would leave a message. This is a legit Capital One phone call folks and this was confirmed by the Capital One supervisor. I was told that there were possibly issues with the system and that the situation would be reported to the tech department. I have used this site in the past when i've had questions concerning phone numbers and believe that usually I find accurate information here. The people who have posted that this is not a legit Capital One phone number, I question your motives for posting misleading information here.

I lost my phone, and when I finally got it back I had no less than SIX voicemails from "Linda," exactly identical (wanting to discuss an "important business matter," obviously recorded, and in an empty, echoing room, not in what should have been a crowded Capital One call center), asking me to call this number. Yeah, right. Not gonna happen, scammers.

And FYI, even if you have your number on the Do Not Call List, if you call them back, that is essentially giving them permission to call you, since you contacted them. Same goes for giving out your phone number. Just. Don't. Do. It. This is a TOTAL scam, and I'm willing to be that the person who posted below that they "got to the bottom of it" is someone in on the scam trying to lend it credibility.

I have  actually received calls, but have never heard a name, I just get...please call 66-953-7906, see I never get the entire message, but assume it is an 866 #. I agree with never giving out your personal information, because if they are calling from a reputable company, they already have that information. Be careful out there.

this number 866-953-7906 just called my house and asked for Social security number saying that they were from Capital One

This is a scam I called the number on the back of my capital one card and asked them they said they had no record of anyone calling and that there was no reason for someone to call me and ask for that kind of information.

Actually by law they haft to ask for some information to protect your identity. As for getting in touch with people you would be suprized how much trouble that can be. I work for a Collection agency. and I have actually worked on Capital one portfolios. Most of the time we actually haft to try to find good numbers for people that are well behind on there cards/car payments. and the account has been charged off. that being said. idk this caller. as for the information they need. usually its verification of an address/dob/last 4 of SS. I've seen some that can use the original account number for verification. but usual last 4 and dob is the best option (parden my horrible spelling)

So did a fallow up call. Since I had set up a payment with Cap One directly earlier in the day. Man answered. very nice. asked for my account number, stated i could give him my name and last for of my SS. asked for the phone number on the account gave that(its the one they are calling anyway) asked again for my name and last 4. Stated I was calling because I set up a payment with cap one earlier today. the man on the phone. was able to tell me the amount of the payment i had set up earlier and apoligized and stated to disregard the call. apparently my call was legit.

this was not a scam.  although the voicemail seemed a bit fishy (pun intended), i called the number on the back of my card and found that I had a few dollars balance that needed to be paid.

definitely call the # on your card, it cant hurt.

I received 2 phone messages from this number and when i returned the call they asked for my account number. I refused to give my card number then they proceeded to tell me that my account was in collections which was a lie. I told them that if they were from Capital One they could do any further contact by mail. I also told them i would report them for possible identity theft!

This number has called my home the last 4 days in a row.  Our number is on the Do Not Call list.
