- Leon C.Got an voicemail today from 813-202-7244. The lady instructed me to call back to 866-953-7906. When I called, some guy with slight Indian accent asked for my account # and birthday. I told him that I cant give that, but I did provide him with my name. He said he would look it up and put me on hold. He unhold me and reconfirmed my name, then he hung up on me. I called CapitalOne inmmediately to inform them about the situation. They instruct me to always call the phone # at the back of the card.

- Lisa PALMERFake Capitol One call...Definitely a scam
- Caller: Capitol One
- IHateScammers replies to StopLyingI do have a Cap One card with a zero balance. So . . . behind in my payments? NOT! You're obviously part of the scam
- IhatescammersI have a zero balance on my Cap 1 card. This is definitely a scam.
- Caller: Capital One
- DoNotCallThisScamI have an account with capital one and got this voicemail. I called the number on the back of my card and they told me that phone number is NOT a capital one number and not to give any info out and to report the numbers to their fraud department.

- luke replies to StopLyingI had a capital one card years ago that was charged off 6 years ago, and sold several times to other debt collectors. The people calling are NOT with Capital One, but with one of debt collectors that now has the defaulted loan - not sure why they are taking this tactic now as opposed to the usual " this is an attempt to collect a debt".
My wife spoke with one person who told her that we could "fix" our credit rating by making a payment on these written off debts.
I called Capital One and they verified that I have no current debt with them and in fact the debt was retired (written off) 6 years ago. - Jason replies to LedManYou wouldn't have to speak to several different reps to confirm the validity of a number. Also, the only reason to post misleading information on a site like this is if you have something to gain, such as account numbers, SS numbers, etc.
Illegitmate number, illegitimate claim. Give no information to these people and call the number on your card if you want real information. - MTCwgrlI have been receiving several calls from "Linda" from Capital One. After she left 3 messages I noticed she suspiciously has 2 different voices. Sounds fishy to me & I am not going to call the number back, I will call the main customer service number listed on the Capital One website. I do have a Capital One account & is in good standing so I will find out what's going on if there is in fact a problem. Our area has been hit with some credit card fraud & debit card info theft so I'm very suspicious of this. There are too many scammers out there anymore so be careful with giving out your information.

- Brittany replies to William| 1 replyThey absolutely can not ask for your social security number, or credit card information if you are calling them. About the only thing they can ask for is a phone pin/password to verify your identity, or your date of birth. If they are getting you to call them back (hanging up before you can answer, meaning you have to call them in order to speak to someone) and THEN they ask for more information, then clearly their is something up. I can't find any association with this number to Capital One that is legitimate, and why wouldn't Linda use her last name (same call for me, today, they called me 4 or 5 times), and she hasn't addressed me by my name in the voicemail, either. Sounds like a scam to me! Also I am completely up to date on my bill so what "important business matter" would need to be "resolved" with this random ass LINDA? .... I'll tell you NONE. Because it's a scam!
- BryanI got the call from Linda. I thought it was a scam so I called CapitalOne Direct and they checked my personal and business accounts and said everything was fine. I asked them if they could see the status of my business credit card and they said that was a different department. I grabbed my credit card and dialed the number on the back. The representative informed me that my account was 3 days past due. My conclusion is that the call was either legitimate or a total coincidence.
- Caller: Linda with Capital One
- DanielleI actually hung up and called the number on my card instead. They did a search of the number that the recording told me to call and could not find it to be connected to Capital One. This is a scam!
- RickyWell I don't know what to say here. I was as skeptical as everyone else here as I got 3 VMs from Linda over the last week. I called the number on the back of my Capital One card only to find out I was 34 days past due. I rarely use the card and keep it at zero balance but I DO use it from time to time. Turns out they switched me to paperless billing and never told me. I debated this with them and they told me that they show I opted for e-mail billing. I just searched my spam folder and my statement was in there. I made the payment and that was that. I THEN called the 866 number Linda left just to see what would happen. I got an automated system saying "thank you for calling Capital One" I then got a live body asking me for my 16 digit acct nmber. I informed her that I would not give my account number and she was very professional about it responding that she "understands not wanting to provide the info..." She then offered to see if it was an issue related to my acct by verifying my home phone. I supplied that and she noted it was indeed an issue with my acct and said if I gave my DOB and billing zip code she could elaborate. At that point I did not give her any more info and said I had already resolved my captial one issue. She said "If you have already resolved it then you are all set" and we ended the call there. It was all very professional and legit. The whole situation was kind of shady though and I may close my acct with them if this is the kind of shenanigans they operate on. I don't know what to say about those of you who are claiming you have never had an account. I was very careful and I ran the show but again... THIS WAS CAPITAL ONE and it was LEGIT.

- MireyaI have now received three messages from 813-274-1837, asking to call "Linda" at Capital One to 866-953-7906. I am in the process of investigating if somehow I can get the office of the Attorney General involved or if there is any mechanism that can be used to get these people in boiling water. I suspect it may be an exercise in futility as they are using residential numbers to originate the calls from, from what I have been reading online. It's definitely a "fly by night" scam operation. Any of you that may have provided credit card numbers or social security numbers, should immediately check your credit reports, and from this point forward, check them every few months for signs of identity theft. NEVER PROVIDE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS OR CREDIT CARD NUMBERS TO STRANGERS, NOT EVEN IF THEY IDENTIFY THEMSELVES AS SOMEONE FROM THE BANK THAT YOU USE, UTILITIES COMPANY THAT YOU USE OR A CREDITOR.
I installed a call blocker in my smartphone, hopefully that will put an end to those calls. Thank you to those that suggested it.- Caller: Linda, from Capital One
- JIMBO| 1 replyCapital One is a sleazy bunch of lying doucebags. I wouldn't do business with these crooks if they were the last credit card company on the face of the earth. Capital One is the type of company that makes me feel like I need to take a shower. I've been harassed daily by Capital One for several months now. These crooks need to croak and die.
- Caller: Linda, Capital One
- LisaLisa"Linda" has left 2 messages plus I've received about a half-dozen others about my Capital One account. Except I don't have a Capital One account and never have. When I called back I spoke to "Chaz" and told him if I received any more calls I would file a report with the FTC. He said it must have been a misdial. Joke's on you "Chaz", I'm filing a report with the FTC anyway!
- Caller: supposedly Capital One
- MikeSame experience here as many others - Linda on my voicemail, claiming to be from Capital One, and asking me to call 866-953-7906. They are persistent and keep calling every day. I've received a total of 10 calls so far, from the following numbers: 813-202-7244, 866-929-5307, 866-381-0453, and 800-955-6600. This is definitely a scam.
- Caller: scam
- bpI got the call and called back. I let them have some info to pull the account up and made them verify my last payment. I think it's okay, but I'll keep an eye out. My account has no issues and they verified.
- Call type: Debt collector
- TJI called back 866-953-7906. It says it is Capital One. I wanted for a live person. I told Zach that I received a call from Linda. He said that was their automated voicemail, and what could he help me with. I said that "Linda" said she had a business topic to discuss. He then asked for my SS# to look up my account. When I emphatically refused, he said that he couldn't help. I then requested to be put on the DNC list. He said that he couldn't do that either. Absolute scam!

- annoymous replies to StopLyingI do have a Capital One card, but I made my payment 2 days ago. Apparently these scammers don't have their info right. Not only that, I know this number is a scam because when I call the customer service number on my card I only have to verify the last FOUR digits of my card, not give them my entire card number, unlike when I call this number back they request the WHOLE card number. Total scam! Will not be calling this number back. EVER. Nor will I answer those calls. "Linda" who sounds like she is in a windtunnel is going to have to find some other poor schmuck who is going to fall for that scam. Why should I be paranoid if my account is good standing. My mother works in the Fraud Division in our local police department as has warned me about phishing scams like this one.
- Kim replies to DeniseGood thinking Denise! What is the number to Capital One's Fraud Department?
