- JoanneI received a voice message from 866-958-5850 on the work phone where I am an office manager assistant. The message did not indicate the name of the company but indicated that it was not a telemarketing or survey call. Unfortunately the code number that was left on the message was difficult to hear so I was not able to quote that number when I returned the call. The company is called Commercial Credit Adjusters and they are a collection agency. In my case it appears that the call was left to the wrong number. If they have left a message quote the code number and the extention number so that when you call back you can call direct to the representative who placed the call and if the call is not meant for you they can remove the number from their records. They may be calling an old phone number that has since been reassigned to you. The people I spoke with were professional and helpful. Commercial Credit Adjusters do have a website and under Consumer Information on the top ribbon, it indicates that their head office is in Winnipeg and they also have offices in Montreal, Edmonton and Calgary. I'm responding as I have had a scam call at work so I often check this site now. Just wanted to add that some of the people that have responded that said they worked for a collection agency do not do their industry any service by speaking so rudely in their responses on this site. Giving correct information would have a much more positive impact on helping other people.

- zigz zagz replies to .......| 1 replyPeople should pay their bills, yes, but anyone who works for a collection agency is scummy anyways. None of them use their own names on-line, they will lie to you about the extent of their legal powers to extract the money from you and occasionally even threaten you in the case of more unscrupulous collectors. Their concern is immediate payment, not your financial state or lack of it and will make suggestions that you should get a loan on your car, motorcycle, or make a pay-day loan all of which is terrible financial advice as it turns your $200 debt into a $300 debt and you will lose your collateral if you default......Stand your ground and never ever do this, it's better they wait than getting yourself into a deeper hole. The country and the economy is in shite financial shape and I wouldn't want to be the guy who had to phone and grind already broke purple down further yet. You'd have to be desperate for work or a real peach of a human being to work for a collection agency and have it not affect you.
For those in a true financial bind
If you are in debt, look into the local law and know the exact extent of their powers. Also of you are unemployed, or under employed don't make promises you can't keep. Tell them they will just have to wait and don't stress out over it. If you have nothing, they can't take anything. Also as time passes they will offer to take smaller percentages. 80%, then 60%, 50% so when you become employed again the wait may have been to your advantage. If you are able, offer them 25%. It allows them to close the file and they still make money on it but don't negotiate or promise anything hoping you can put the cash together after. Wait till you have cash in hand.
Also, at least in Canada, though they will threaten court action they will not take any in smaller amounts regardless of what they say. If the bill is larger, I can't estimate an amount, I would assume nothing but in the case of $500-$600, perhaps under $1000 it is not worth their time and expense.
Most of all, don't let your unpaid debt make you sick with stress and grief. It won't get the debt paid and won't do you any good at all. Alot of people have worked hard their entire life to end up with nothing but unpaid debt when jobs disappeared, and mortgages went unpaid and houses got lost. It's no reflection on you or your worth so don't let some phone jockey who knows nothing of you bully you. - JustMeThis company called and left a message saying "This is Constable Nickoline (what it sounded like anyways) and you need to get back to me right away at 1-866-958-5850 and quote reference # blah blah. I will be finding out where to report this misrepresentation and dealing with this yahoo tomorrow and letting him know also as well as his unit supervisor. That being said I did previously speak to a really nice guy named Todd so not all of them are a$$hole liars.

- idiotsHello, bottom line if a company doesn't have a live individual leaving detailed msgs, it's a scam. Fk these peoe. Just waste their time since they do it to others.
- Jax replies to CCAWho can understand the first reply? It is written by some uneducated person and cannot be deciphered. 'Crooked' is what I think.
- Concern| 1 replyWell, I got a call from a Mrs. Nurula (so she said) anyhow I tried make a payment arregment , she was not nice at all and demanded to make a full payment by tomorrow by 1:00 and when I told her I couldn't by tomorrow she said , there will be further action taken. I was willing to pay by next week, but she didn't enven lisent . So, to all that work for the company---- really?? Your working to get payments?? Not the best approach to all of us that actually try our best to pay what we owe. This company is the worst I dealt with.

- SAMYes, this company is CCA Commercial Credit Adjusters. (I just verified this by calling the number and speaking to a person.) Have been receiving calls and voice messages for the last few days for a person who we have never heard of. (We have had this same phone no. for at least 20 years!) It appears that "Financial Planner" (Comment #2) works for this company. Read his/her message carefully. Although the grammar is poor, I guess one doesn't need to know how to write cohesively or spell to work for such a company - one just needs to know how to harass on the phone.

- SAM replies to CCASee what I mean. Their reps can't write.
- SAM replies to zigz zagzGood advice! Also, if you are retired, collection companies can not garnishee your pension or RRPSs. You have a right to feel safe.
- SAM replies to ConcernDon't be intimidated by credit collectors. They will try but put yourself first. If you can't pay, you can't pay.
Some points:
1. They are not allowed to call your place of employment or your cell phone or even your home phone if you tell them not to. Record your message to them or send a registered letter. (Keep a copy.)
2. You may be threatened with letters from lawyers or pseudo-lawyers. If you can't pay, you can't pay.
3. Retirees' pensions can not be garnished.
Take care of your health first. The worst thing that can happen is that your credit score will be poor and you may not be able to use credit cards or get loans. You will need to pay cash from now on. (I went through hell for years and have learned a lot!!)
(I know the above from experience. I use my pension and pay cash. This is a great stress reliever!) - SAM replies to ........Sounds like you work for CCA yourself. And your writing confirms this since you don't know how to write or spell properly!
- Reaper replies to ........| 1 replyIt's a scam phishing company looking for your credit information.
Just like the TD bank scam, the FBI scam, ALL the scams. CCA might be a real company, but since they (the people apparently representing CCA) are not calling from a land line or through a Canadian PBX (Canadian Call center).
The easiest way to tell it's a scam is they don't use a call back number with an extension or leave any indication with owing money. They just called my place. Don't owe a penny, yet they phone. - BankRoll replies to JeremyMan there are a lot of Paid Company Stoogies on here.
- CCA unlikely.It's a scam.

- not for meReceived a call and real person voicemail from this number. No mention of company, the woman gave me her name and a reference number to call back with. Called the number back as she was looking for someone with a different first name, same last name, no relation to me but the line was busy. Oh well.
