- FFinVA replies to clareI also pay Anthem BCBS online. That's got to be it. It's the only place I enter my checking account number online. Never do that again.
- JulieI have called Everhome and told them that they have been hacked. I am pretty sure this has originated from there, as it is one of the few places I have my checking account info stored to make my mortgage payment. My husbands name is also somewhat incorrect on my mortgage, and that is the name BBU used on the phony check! Everhome is sending me some paperwork to complete from their fraud unit. I agree, the more people that call Everhome Mortgage, the better!!
- Glen from Virginia| 1 replyI too was hit two weeks ago. And I too had an Everhome mortgage with my checking acct on file. I also have my checking account linked to Anthem, and Bank of America. It seems, however, that the clues are pointing mostly to Everhome. I will contact them tomorrow so that they understand many of their cutomers have been hit by this scam. If you too deal with Everhome, please call so they get the message. It's also possible that the crooks got checking information from various sources. I don't trust many of these huge businesses to keep their files secure.
- anonymous replies to Just meThis happened to me on 1/12/11. I also have an Everhome Mortgage which I pay online.
- Sherry replies to Wachovia-Charlotte NCI have already entered all my information yesterday about what happened..same as everyone else. Someone had mentioned Anthem Blue Cross which I paid for with routing number & account number. Since they had my child's name with middle initial on the check I thought for sure that could be it. Now that you bring up taxes that is a very good point. I file my taxes online with turbo tax and have a teenage daughter that did download music using limewire. They could have gotten her name from my tax documents or Anthem Blue Cross.
- Chels from Cali| 2 repliesWe also have a mortgage with Everhome. I do not understand why there payment has such poor protection. I am very disappointed. I will be changing my account tomorrow. What a hassle!

- Just me replies to Wachovia-Charlotte NC| 1 replyI do not believe that taxes are the case. I am a tax preparer and work for a popular tax preparation company. I of course file my taxes through the company's software program. What I believe is happening is that these scam artists have more than one way to get into your checking account. Many people have several things in common but that might be something totally different from what another group of people has in common. I still firmly believe that for me, Everhome mortgage's online payment website is the culprit. None of my checks are missing, they have all been cashed and went to their appropriate places. The only website I use that I HAVE to enter my bank routing and account # is Everhome. It is also the only way to correlate my sister in law's name with my account iformation.
- Just me replies to Chels from Cali| 1 replyPlease contact Everhome if you believe that is what may have caused your situation.
- Wachovia-Charlotte NC replies to Just meThanks for that comment about taxes. I feel somewhat better now..........but still, I have never had any dealings with Everhome Mortgage, or the insurance companies mentioned above. Maybe theses scammers have collected info from various sources, Everhome seeming to be the main one.
- Amy replies to DonnaI've read pretty much all the posts on this site and on others. The only common thread I've run across so far is Ever Home ~ I think that could be it! I've already had to change my checking account and the bank has told me its on me to file a police report before the bank's fraud department will investigate. I'm going to start using my bank's own bill pay system (at their recommendation) instead of paying bills directly. That is apparently the only way my bank will accept responsibility when something goes wrong like this.
- I HATE SCAMMERS replies to Just meI was just wondering if Everhome mortgage goes by or has ever gone by a different name...Or what other mortgage companies they are associated with. My mortgages are with Ocwen Loan Servicing and Litton Loan Servicing,,, previously they were owned by Fremont. I'm trying to find similarities.... We previously had Anthem for years, but never paid them with checking acct,, I also do our taxes with Turbo Tax, but we only use iTunes for music....No file sharing. I usually buy the Turbo tax disc, but this year I created an account on their site and uploaded my previous years info...I really hope that is not the problem!! Has anyone checked their credit report?? I have filed a police report and fraud dispute with my bank (Firstmerit) and also have emailed my local news station to ask them to help research and do a story on this to warn the public...but so far,, no response on that. I wish they would because there really isn't a whole lot of answers for any of us and we deserve to know who is accessing our hard earned money!!! These scamming losers need to get off their lazy butts and get a real job!!
- Amy replies to Just meThere are quite a few victims who report that Ever Home holds their mortgages AND that it is the only online venue that has their checking account info on file. I'm one of them!
- Amy replies to Glen from VirginiaI called their customer service line and was told to use the "FEEDBACK" response mechanism at the bottom of their website because the rep had no way of translating my story to anyone. She was pretty emphatic that she hasn't heard of any other customer stories like this...but she is only one customer service rep. Please call Ever Home -- and use the FEEDBACK option on their website.
- MHBTHIS IS NOT RIGHT... I GOT THE CHARGE TO... NOT MY NAME OR ADDRESS BUT MY ACCOUNT...
- Guy in Mississippi| 1 replyI don't have Blue Cross/Blue Shield, don't bank with BoA, Wachovia, or any of the other banks mentioned and don't have my mortgage with Everhome. I have been hit with the same scam, though. They didn't even have my full name (just my first name on the check). How is it that the bank allows something like that to clear? I'm wondering, do any of you/most of you pay credit card bills online with your bank account? That and my cell phone is the only thing I pay online (even then, I can't remember ever entering my routing number).

- Jenny replies to Jen| 1 replyHey Jen & all others -
I too was affected by this today. Got online to check my account, saw a strange amount of a check I supposedly wrote for $29.95 with a strange account number and immediately pulled up the check. Only to see that it had my name and MY account number with the wrong address. I immediately went to the bank and closed my account. I had several issues with that as well - I had a transaction pending and my paycheck is going to post tomorrow -but the rep at Wachovia said he would take care of everything so that my money wouldn't get all screwed up. Thank goodness for good customer service! Like many of you, I've had my account for many, many years and I've never had anything like this happen. So while I was frustrated to have to close my account, I count my blessings that it was only $29.95 that they took me for.
I know Wachovia is filing a fraud report and I'd love to see justice served. I just won't hold my breath. Creeps like this get away with these kinds of things all too often. Luckily we all pay attention to our accounts and they won't be getting money from us!! - Jenny (again) replies to JennyAlso - I don't use Online Bill Pay with Wachovia. I DO pay many of my bills online, BUT only a few accounts that I can think of do I use my routing/account numbers for:
Anthem BC/BS premiums
Comcast
Chase
Progressive - Jenny replies to clareJust paid my Anthem BC/BS dental premium. I have several accounts that come out of my Wachovia account - but this is one I use regularly.
Others include Sallie Mae (which I just thought of), Chase, Comcast & Progressive - Rachael in GeorgiaJust got off with Wachovia because I too had the $29.95 charge from BBU services. My mortgage provider is Everhome as well. They really should have better protection on their systems!

- payton replies to Also in COI agree. I wonder if giving the TX number validates that your account is an active account. Gosh... I feel kind of stupid for calling a "customer service" number on a fraudulant check. I am planning on calling my bank in the morning to close my account.
