- Julie| 1 replyI have not changed my account for just this reason. If the banks can't stop the electronic checks from going through, why should we be inconvenienced if it could just happen again with our new account number? Think about it, every time you write a check or pay a bill online, your account numbers and routing numbers are out there. What I have done with my bank, is I have put a stop payment for any checks coming from BBU Services, in any dollar amount from $1 to $1000.00. They are waiving their normal stop payment fee, since they know it's a scam. I am pretty meticulous about checking my banking account online, and am now checking it everyday to monitor activity. I am 99% sure this stemmed from my paying my mortgage online with Everhome, and I have notified them, but so far they haven't taken any responsiblity or what they are going to do to prevent this in the future.
- d replies to Pissed off in CaliI wrote earlier I go thru litton also. You r my first connection
- StephThe exact same thing happened to me with this "company". When I called the 877 number, I spoke with someone and they actually gave me an IP address to the computer that was used but I'm sure it's bogus. I called back a 2nd time and no answer yet. I haven't gone to the police with the IP address yet. I have a print out of the front and back of the check and it was deposited into a Bank of America account with an account number. I wonder if there is a way for Bank of America to trace it. That sounds really simple and I'm sure the thieves have figured this out too but I think I'll at least give it a try. Once my bank finishes investigating, they're supposed to give me the $29.95 back. I really want these people caught.
- echeckfraudI have the same story as everyone else. Correct name, wrong address, fraudulent e-check for 29.95. I also use CENLAR to pay my mortgage (formerly TB&W). I called the customer service number on the check and they said they would refund my money within 3 to 5 business days. I immediately went to my bank and had them put my account on "hold" so that nothing could be withdrawn but deposits could be made. My money DID get refunded! Only it was 6 business days before it showed up in my account. That makes me feel a lot better. Still not sure what to think about this and I will be closing my account now that the money has been refunded.
- Jimmy| 6 repliesHere is what I figured out. All compaints on scam use either Everhome or Cenlar Mortgage to pay thier mortgage. If you notice of both companies websites, they are using the same software to login and process payments. I noticed last month that they wanted to charge me 2 buck as a proccessing fee, but this month it wasn't on there. I think somehow the scamer were able to add that in there last month the collect my info. let me know what you think.

- Mike Moulton replies to Julie WheelerI do the book for my employer and noticed this check coming out of his operating account under his wife's name, who isn't on the account. I think you just solved the mystery as to how they're getting this info though. His wife has an Everhome Mortgage as well, which I pay online from his operating account.
- Down with BBU!| 4 repliesI'm reading the posts, and I'm sorry to all fellow sufferers. I've spent the entire day trying to track down these honorless thieves who steal money from hard-working people like us. I bank at Wells Fargo, I am a Blue Cross Blue Shield member and do alot of online bill pay (which I've always worried about). My banker called the number and they said it was for "adult website charges" - how embarrassing. Now, my account is closed and I'm starting over with the banking process, but it wont be long until there is another dip in the pockets of us all! Wells Fargo is working on the fraud, but I dont expect much from them. I would rather have sent them the cash annd tell them to stick it up their A*S

- Down with BBU! replies to Down with BBU!I forgot to mention that I also once had a mortgage through Everhome 2 years ago. I beleive that this is the vector for all our problems!
- PaybackI URGE EVERYONE READING THIS TO FILE AS MANY COMPLAINTS AS YOU CAN... BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, FEDERAL TRADE COMISSION, ATTORNEY GENERAL, FILE A POLICE REPORT, DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS, AND EVERYTHING ELSE AT YOUR DISPOSAL. THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH THIS BECAUSE NO ONE IS GOING TO CARE ENOUGH TO GO THROUGH THE TROUBLE BECAUSE IT IS ONLY 29.95- BUT I DON'T CARE IF IT IS $1.00 or $100,000.00- THEY ARE NOT GOING TO GET AWAY WITH THIS. I DON'T KNOW WHO THEY THINK THEY ARE BUT THEY HAVE ANOTHER THING COMING.
- Payback replies to Down with BBU!I actually did call them to try and confirm their address and told them that I am going to come down there personally to get my refund and then shove it up their....
- SheRaRaSame thing happened to me! I have a Credit Union. How do we contact Bank of America/
- Caller: did not call - they cashed
- SheRaRa replies to Jimmy| 1 replyWe don't have a mortage - so it's not coming from that!
- Jon replies to Guy in MississippiThe sad truth is this. We pay banks to protect our money. Even if you have a free checking account, banks reloan the money you place in them and make money off of that. The banks are suppose to hold up their end of the bargin, which is protecting our money. They fail to do so.
You could have every piece of information wrong on the a check except the money box and the routing/account number and it will clear. Electronic Fund Transfers are even worse. I doubt that that the bank even has a human verify the amount on the check, as long as the merchant (BBU Services in this case) types it in on their side. - Jon replies to Unbelievable! It happens because the banks allow it to. No verification required for EFT. Their system is reactive, not proactive.
- Jon replies to MoSTLGiving the 800 the TX number makes no difference. They know they got a hit when the money was withdrawn from your account. If anything, it lets you know that you are on to them.
- JonThe plethora of comments here fingering Everhome convinced me to call them to check out the status on this issue. I had to be transfered twice (spoke to 3 people), the third one was very nice and let me know that they are looking into it. They are going to send me out some sort of fraud claim form. Then they say they'll be able to let me know t he status of their investigation.
I'm satisfied at this point that Everhome is doing something. If I had to play the blame game here is how I would blame.
1) The theif who is acutally taking the money
2) BBU Services if they differ from the theif (they are probably the same).
3) Everhome for allowing the leak. I always though their payment web page looked questionable.
4) USBank for not allowing an electronic funds transfer whitelist.
I am even tempted to put my bank (USBank) at the top because there would be no problem if they didn't allow this HUGE security hole. I mean how hard could it possibly be to set up a whitelist? It would only take a small team of developers and others a couple of weeks.
For those of you that dont understand the difference between an blacklist and whitelist. A blacklist is like a traditional spam filter which allows you to block someone from doing EFTs from your account. The problem is, they can just change who they are and do it again. A whitelist says "only these people can do EFT from my account". All the customer would have to do is log into their banks web interface and add another person/company to the whitelist when they wanted to allow it. This isn't that difficult. Banks already have this setup for businesses, but not us lowly customers. - Wyoming| 1 replyWe had the same fraudulent withdrawal on Jan 24. Called Nevada - no business at that address (I even called the strip mall owner where that address exists, and he's received at least 100 calls, he said). Lyon County Sheriff's Office said that they hadn't heard of it yet. Maybe nobody is making reports with them.
We don't use the same mortgage company as others listed, but we did recently get a credit card through CHASE and recently ordered new checks. What's with Bank of America cashing hundreds and hundreds of fraudulent checks???- Caller: BBU Services
- Wyoming replies to WyomingJust saw the references to EVERhome above and we use them too! They DO have a very screwed up payments page.
- More Info| 1 replyMy relative discovered this week he was a victim of BBU (phone on check 866-326-3568). You can report it to the FBI, but they won't put much effort into the case. The dollar amounts are too low. There's a Hollywood actor who made a living for over 10 years committing the same scam as BBU. People reported him to the FBI, but he wasn't arrested until he stole from Wall Street by committing securities fraud. Even then, he got only probation, no jail time.
This scam takes advantage of flaws in the ACH system. Basically, anyone with access to the ACH system can pull money from anyone's bank account if they have the bank account number and routing number--unless whitelists are set up on the account. The thief can put down the wrong name and wrong address for your account, and the transfer will still go through. If you fail to discover the transfer before 60 days from the date of the transaction, you can't get your money back.
The "FBO" on the back of the check stands for "For Benefit Of." If your check said "FBO Ready Cash," that may mean your money was transferred to a company called "Ready Cash." That company could be the thief--or not. Ready Cash could be a legitimate business whose online banking credentials have been stolen. In that case, the thief would log into Ready Cash's acccount and transfer your money from there to an offshore account. By the time the legitimate company recognizes its account has been compromised, your money is long gone.
Someone suggested that Aaron Shoaf owns DBA, the company that answers the customer service phone. That's probably not right. Aaron Shoaf runs an incorporation business, Silver Shield Services. People pay him to create Nevada corporations as their registered agent. That means a thief can create a corporation and still maintain their anonymity, because Aaron Shoaf's name and address appear as the contact for the corporation, not the thief's name and address. BBU Interservices address is really the address for Silver Shield.
If the DBA who answers the phone is the same as Data Business Associates, which was incorporated by Silver Shield, DBA runs the web site i-rub-it DOTCOM. They have a statement on their site that they are the secondary producer of adult content. The primary producer is Donny Long Productions. Donny's real name is supposedly Donald Carlos Seoane, and he has a criminal record. It would be interesting to find out if Donny Long owns DBA or not. The administrator for Data Business Associates is "Mike Oxbig" which is obviously a fake name.
BBU isn't the only questionable enterprise that Silver Shield is shielding. There are numerous complaints online about cash advance companies that use Supportseven for their call center. Supportseven was incorporated by Silver Shield. It's located in Chattanooga, TN, but also has call centers in Reno, NV and Costa Rica. Someone who claims to be a former employee says they transfer the money to Panama.- Caller: BBU Interservices
- highplainsdrifter| 4 repliesi would bet that everhome uses CENLAR to subservice the loans,i think thats where the leak came from!! from what i see on the web is that cenlar has alot of complaints against them! is everybody else on here a subprime borrower? you can google cenlar and go to their website and click on mortgage info and if it brings you to the same looking page thats on you mortgage holders website you know they are handling the payments on your loan. i also know they treat you like crap because they know most of us have what you call high risk loans. even though ive never missed a payment in 8 years i think that they think im some kind of loser for having the type of loan that i have in the first place!
