This number called me today and ask for my SSN last four digit, they it's from LLE funding which I'm not aware off or don't recall at all. he said his name was Tom and I feel threaten and afraid that this some kind of scam. The issue that he was asking for was not something I aware of, and he said this issue was about from 1999 and we owed them $22,000,00 I never work then and we don't owed anyone that much. I feel harassed and why is this person asking for my SSN?  Please take my name on the list and please don't let this people call me again. Thank you

They called me saying I owed $4974.07 from 16 years ago for a MasterCard which I never had a Master Card. I said 16 years ago and your just now calling said they just got it. I asked them to send me something showing where I signed for anything to do with this debt, signature anything they said they would so I give them my address and all they send me is a bill!!!  I tried to call them and they tell you to hold then eventually transfer you and that person does not answer and their voicemail is full!! Ain't that some stuff!!How do these people continue to get away with this. Some people must fall for their bull and actually send them money are they couldn't continue to do this. Everyone needs to complain to the FTC on a regular basis I guess, how can we ban together to and stop these people?

I asked them what does quality assurance mean and they said I should buy a dictionary. I hate rude people so I told them to f off.

my understanding is that at least in this state (florida) certain types of debt age differently. For instance revolving credit (credit cards) are good for 4 yrs if they haven't expired.  To keep the debt current, you must in some way reaffirm the debt.  That's one reason the accepted wisdom is to never answer telephone call from numbers you don't recognize.  If for example you acknowledge the debt and put something in writing or make a payment, you have reaffirmed the debt and the next 4 yrs you are in the hot seat for both harassment and payment.  Each state's law is different so contact a local attorney.  I'm sure the holders of your debt wish it weren't so but it is.  If you wish to fight it send them a letter requesting all information about the alleged debt which you specifically deny.  Since debt is traded at pennies on the dollar (zombie debt it is called) the substantiation documents rarely follow the electronically transmitted sales which frequently are only numbers by the time it is sold several times.  If they can't find the proof or it is too time consuming to get it--they will sometimes threaten to ruin your credit and turn you into the credit bureau so you must also file a similar letter with the credit bureau contesting the debt.  They have to remove adverse contested items if the original debt holder doesn't respond by law

terriann and roger are right--first the soldier and sailors civil relief act specifically provides you with relief as long as your spouse is deployed.  Preferably go to the nearest Judge Advocate General's (JAG) at any military base any branch and ask for advice.

The bottom feeders like Convergent make a very good income with their purchases of what is called zombie debt.  It is unfortunate that sometimes people get in over their heads and get behind but the law puts a limit on how long they can harass you and these collectors often pay pennies on the dollar for debt sometimes as much as a decade old. It's a big profit for them if only one out of 10 reaffirm their debt.

A good rule of thump is to check google or similar sites before you call back or answer to avoid the pitfalls of inadvertently "renewing" the debt.  Never answer any call from a number you don't recognize.  Ignor them and eventually they will sell your zombie debt to somebody else who will start calling--do the same with them!

I had three calls in the space of an hour from Convergent Outsourcing leaving messages on my answering machine.  They leave a message to call them but don't say who they want to talk to, or who they think I owe money to.  I just got this phone # and I do not owe anyone anything anywhere, so I am not calling them back.

Ok, this is a strange company record.  According to their web site, they are located in Atlanta, Ga and have been in business since 1955.
Now the BBB gives them an A+ rating with 1044 complaints and 3 negative reviews (how does that pan out)  They also say that the business was established in 1950, that they are headquartered in Washington State, and that they are registered with the Washington Dept. Of Revenue: http://www.bbb.org/western-washington/busines ... enton-wa-501066
So if you go to the Washington State web site and look up their corporation, it indicates that they were formed in 2013:

    CONVERGENT OUTSOURCING, INC.

    UBI Number    603319184
    Category    REG
    Profit/Nonprofit    Profit
    Active/Inactive    Active
    State of Incorporation    WA
    WA Filing Date    07/22/2013
    Expiration Date    07/31/2015
    Inactive Date
    Duration    Perpetual
    Registered Agent Information
    Agent Name    CT CORPORATION SYSTEM
Address    505 UNION AVE SE STE120
    City    OLYMPIA
    State    WA
    ZIP    98501
Now that is the corporation that is active, the other corporation with that name is inactive but was owned by the same person:
    UBI Number    600059082
    Category    REG
    Profit/Nonprofit    Profit
    Active/Inactive    Inactive
    State of Incorporation    WA
    WA Filing Date    01/11/1972
    Expiration Date    01/31/2014
    Inactive Date
    Duration    Perpetual
    Registered Agent Information
    Agent Name    STEVEN J HUNTER
    Address    800 SW 39TH ST
    City    RENTON
    State    WA

    Special Address Information
    Address    PO BOX 9004
    City    RENTON

Bizapedia has them as forming in 1972 and still active, although that date would apply to the inactive corporation (confused yet?  I am):  http://www.bizapedia.com/wa/CONVERGENT-OUTSOURCING-INC.html

Got a call from 702-583-3532 asking to call the above number.  A lot of language out here this site is useful for info; it cannot help you stop the phone calls.  To do that you need to file complaints with the ftc, keep logs of the calls, keep recording of any conversations, get an attorney, etc...regardless know your rights under the FDCPA and if you owe debt, bankruptcy can help you with every debt you owe.  I handle all my own legal stuff period, no reason to have an attorney if you are not ignorant of the law and the way courts operate, etc....just my opinion.  Lots of illegal debt collectors out there - just don't answer if you do owe money and don't do anything to reinstate the statute of limitations.  Be an informed and smart consumer.

Received a letter addressed to my mother in law who passed away two years ago. I've paid her hills for the past decade & have no knowledge of any debt like this. Looks to me to be an attempt at identity theft. (I am not responding to them, of course .)

as long as you do not communicate with the bottom trolling debt collector, the statute of limitations applies. If you talk to them, and it was a real debt, it starts the time-line from scratch. the statute is 7 years. these guys buy the old debt from original debtor, paying pennies on the $, after the original vendor wrote it off on their taxes. Just ignore them. the worst you will deal with is harassing calls.

They call at least once per day. When I've picked up they ask me to hold for an important message. I've got better things to do than sit on hold. When I let it go to voice mail they never leave a message.
