Received a robocall from this number.  It was asking for my whereabouts and location.  And that they would call all references on file as per law.  I called the number and it was for a company BRG.  I tried googling this company and could not find one with that name specifically.  I believe this is a scam

Web site gives an address in Western New York, known haven for criminal debt collectors:  http://www.bournviewrecoverygroup.info/contact.html
    BBB gives them a C+ with 13 complaints:  http://www.bbb.org/upstate-new-york/business- ... g-ny-235976383/
A search for a business registration under Bournview brings up no results in either Bizapedia or the New York Dept. of State.  This would preclude them from legally conducting business.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

They called and said I owed money for a pay day loan from 2012. The information they had was information that was really old and a bank that I have never used. they also claimed I electronically signed for the loan and I needed to pay. I never had a pay day loan and I didn't live or use the email they claimed in over 10 years. The scary part is they had the last 4 digits of my SS number. I hung up telling them they were just a scam.

I also did a research if this number 877-524-1989 as they have called me everyday for the past 3 weeks.  Anyhow, I found the phone number attached to BRG several times.  But the interesting part was that, sometimes the complaint was about BRG, Berkeley Research Group, for a survey, and other times it was Bournview Recovery Group.  I just blocked the number.

I have been called by this number twice in the last 6 months. The call was from a debt collector looking for someone I do actually know who had used me as a reference when applying for credit and who's account is now delinquent. The recording definitely uses scam like threatening language so I would avoid any contact with them.

called about 2PM PST..left msg stating that they are looking for "insert name here." Wife and I listened to the message...and thought is was interesting that they are looking for her EX-husband. Wife actually called them...the person on the phone said BRG...how can I help you? Wife stated that you called here looking for a person by this "name." the woman asked: "are you calling from the number we called you on?" Of course it was...My wife stated that she had not seen OR talked wo the person in question since 1989..the woman said" we'll take the number off."  then promptly hung up....
