This number called a few times, with an outgoing message of, "Thank you for calling..." I hung up each time. The company then sent a letter stating they are collecting a debt from us. Our city was attempting to get us to pay a bill and hired this company to collect the money.

Well, we had already paid that bill. I called Alliance One, and noticed that their letter included in their total amount of money charged, not only the amount of the bill that our city said we owed, but an additional amount of $40.14 above and beyond our original debt, which is Alliance One's collection fee that they tack on to the bill. They asked that we fax over the canceled check.

I hesitated and contacted our city directly and was told that we had received contact from Alliance One in error, that our account was actually current, that the city would call Alliance One themselves to straighten them out.

So, what I learned from this experience is, if you get calls from Alliance One, that's probably a heads up that you owe someone something. BUT, if you get a letter from Alliance One, seeking to collect on an unpaid debt, directly contact the person or company trying to collect from you. This way, at least you will deny Alliance One the satisfaction of collecting their $40.14 fee (especially if your account is in fact, current).

Called around 10:45 a.m. to my cell. Rang twice and hung up.

The caller id said CA State.  Glad I didn't answer it.  I am finalizing my brother's estate who lived there when he died, and if I had been home would have picked up.  I don't owe anybody anything that is behind.  So watch out for their caller ID.  I thought that was illegal.

IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO FRAUDGENTLY LEAD A PERSON TO BELIEVE THEY ARE ANYONE OTHER THEN WHO THEY REALLY ARE..

ITS IN THE FAIR DEBT COLLECTION ACT

I AM GOING TO FILE AN COMPLAINT.. IF OTHERS FILE A COMPLAINT ALSO, THEY WILL BE FORCED TO STOP..!

The only reason a Debt Collector calls is because you have an outstanding balance. There's nothing wrong with being a Debt Collector.

Got. Call from this number. It is a "third party collection agency" that contracts with companies to do their collections. One large client is the City of Los Angeles . They are collecting on past due rental housing fees. I spoke to a representative there who was very nice. This collection/billing in my case is an error but it must be resolved with the originator (in my case, the City). The alliance1  rep was very nice, gave me all the info he had along with contact numbers for City collections and explained the process. He was very helpful.

Alliance One contracts with the city of Los Angeles to do their collections. They also contract with other Government agencies. Your call may have been on behalf of the State of California for past due fees.

No information what it is all about no mail corespondence. only harassement. The BBB as well as FTC has to investigated and charge all this collection agency's with crime. To stop the none legal operations.  One is from NY and One in CA We need action by the proper Gov. agency to stop the abuse.

my girlfriend had a credit card from Capital One go into default. she made arrangements with this company to work on paying off the balance is it wasn't a very large credit card. unfortunately due to job loss shoes no longer able to make the payment and cancel the entire payment schedule. this ridiculous company then decided to start playing out payments after they were no longer authorized to do so. the first 1 happens only a month later to which she then called and complained that they're still taking payments and they stated that in their system they had only March to cancel the upcoming payment and not the entire payment schedule. again she attempted to cancel the entire payment schedule. without fail, we received another transaction not authorized from this company only 2 months later. it has literally gotten to the point where we now have to close our checking account and open a new 1 to prevent this from continuing in the future. if this debt collector bought your account whether it be a credit card or otherwise I would strongly encourage you to not give them your bank account information for the payments because God forbid you need to stop and regroup.

I got a call from this number about 2 weeks ago, i didn't answer and they didn't leave a message.  Today, the number called again and again no message not even a recorded message was left.  Never had any traffic tickets nor do i owe anyone any money as i follow my credit report religiously.  I can only assume they have the wrong number but it is annoying to say the least.

CALLED THE NUMBER BACK AND A WOMAN STATED SHE WAS WITH A COLLECTION AGENCY AND DEMANDED FOR MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, WHEN I ASKED FOR SOME CLARIFICATION ON WHY I WAS BEING CONTACTED, SHE TOLD ME I WOULD GET NO INFO UNTIL I GAVE HER MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. I just received a call from Alliance One. The # reflected on my caller i.d. was (877) 541-8420. That is their correct 800 #.  They were looking for somebody named Heather Prest. I get one or two phone calls a year from different Junk Debt Buyers and collectors looking for this girl. However, in addition to the 800 #, my caller i.d. indicated that the call was coming from an unidentified government office in the state of California. This is known as "SPOOFING" the caller i.d. to conceal the real identity of the caller or agency. It is an old and easily recognized debt collection tactic and it is COMPLETELY ILLEGAL! It is an FDCPA violation. I called them back and LEGALLY recorded the phone conversation with one of the supervisors, supposedly. These people are NOT calling from California and they are DEFINITELY NOT a government agency! I see on the posted reports that they contacted someone else and verbally identified themselves as "Financial Institute of Government" or something to that effect. Now I'm going to take them to task for it.
