I have received many calls the past week or two from this phone number.  The Caller ID says, "CA STATE OF" which is a fraudulent caller id and illegal for this company to use.  Next, someone came on the line and said this call will be recorded.  Then, they asked for people that haven't owned my phone number in well over six years.  I told them it is illegal to record this call without my consent and they are calling a  number on the DNC list.  Click, they hung up.  I will see what happens.

Called our office this afternoon, but hung up before navigating our IVR. Caller ID listed the number and "CA STATE ".

We keep getting calls from this number and no one ever is on the line.  It says CA State of on caller id.  We have never done any business in CA

They've now called seven times in 10 days, and always hang up. Scumbags!

Now 19 times since August 1st. All hangup calls.

Keep calling several times a day, I have told them that I just got the number 3 months ago,  I do not know the person they  ask for. Caller ID says CA State Of. I no longer answer the phone for any calls from toll free numbers,out of area, unknown or names I do not recognize.

My teenage son got a call claiming he owed $1400 in toll violations. He was sketchy on the details when he called to tell me. Luckily, I was able to tell him it wasn't possible because in order for him to receive a call like that, the vehicle would have to be in his name and it's not! The ironic part was that, according to him, the caller claimed to be collecting on behalf of my employer. I haven't called back, but may do so so that perhaps there can be some real legal action on these scammers!

If this were a legitimate debt collector, they are required by law to send a written notice of the debt within 5 days of the first phone call.  Has anyone who has reported them here ever received a notice?  So far, I've seen no reply saying so.  Therefore, this must not be a legitimate collector.

They left a 5 second long message and I couldn't understand anything they said.

Is it illegal to answer "sherrifs office"?

Well I guess it depends on whether you get caught or not, but yes, technically it is.  Which is why we always recommend that you read the other posts and use the information to fight these crooks the very easy legal way.

Everyone should call use *67 then there number and bug the crap out of them.  See how they like it..  I've tried telling them I'm not the person they are looking for I still get calls.  B.S.

*67 doesn't hide your number when you call a toll-free number such as this. Try just blocking the number instead.

Perhaps.  However, "County Jail, you 'cuff 'em, we stuff 'em." works for me.   ;-)

Alternatives:
"City Morgue,  you kill 'em, we chill 'em."
"Gotti's Funeral Home.  You whack 'em, we pack 'em."
 [Any Italian name works, but better to stay with famous mobsters.]

Constant calls showing CA State 1-877-541-8420. No response. No message.

I think this guys are fraud , they tried to collect money from me , on behalf of city of Los Angeles ,
