You might be right, but somebody could have gave them your number when setting up an account. Or the person who used to own your phone number is in debt with the Toronto Dominion Bank.

    MJR Make Jokes Regularly
Who gives you the damn right to take over a person's debt from Canadian Tire or whoever......When are company's going to have the balls to call on their debts themselves and stop letting idiot collection agencies  buy out people's debts....As far as I am concerned.....these collection agencies are a joke.....empty threats!, harassment!, and intimidation cannot WIN over a person who just does not have the money because of BAD circumstances  - like unemployment, sickness, being laid off from work and just not having any income because they are on government welfare roles!!! EVERYONE GET REAL!!! IF THE PEOPLE WHO CANNOT CONTINUE TO PAY GET IN THESE UNFORTUNATE CIRCUMSTANCES WITH TRYING TO SUPPORT A FAMILY ON TOP OF THIS....WHERE IN THE HELL ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO GET THE MONEY TO SETTLE THEIR DEBT....HAUL IT OUT OF THEIR ASSS !!! hahaha or pick it from the local money tree!!! LOL!

I am of the opinion that you must work for or used to work for such a company if you think that anyone who is harrassed by these types of calls must be "losers" that are "wasting ur time" and need to "learn how to pay your bills". I used to get these calls 3-5 times a day, I had owned my cell phone for 3 months, the bills were paid prompltly and I had no other debt of any kind.

However there are companies that pose as debt collection, or as a bank in hopes of obtaining financial info from you.

So either this caller is a scam, or they are a Collections Agency with very poor buisness practices. I know in ontario that there is a statute of limitation on collections, bills cannot be legally pursued after 2 years in Ontario (where I live). I also know that no creditor will ask for financial info over the phone. Furthermore I know that in Ontario that collections agencies can be charged with harrasment if they contact a person more than 3 times in one business day, cannot speak to anyone except the account holder for which they are collecting, and are not allowed to make such calls on sundays.

I informed the person I spoke to of this and they did not contact me further. So clearly you need to inform yourself before you sling insults over the internet.

Keep getting voicemails from this company on my cellphone for someone I don't even know.  At least 10 so far over the last few days - it's beginning to annoy me greatly.

I also got two voice messages from this number  1-877-669-4935 on April 6, 2011 and I just checked my message today and found it. I immediately went to google this number as I know I have no overdue debt at all.  Then I found this website and other people's comments. It's very good that everyone share the information and get better educated by others' experience. Much appreciated. I believe this is a scammer and I decided to disregard this call.

The Comany MJR and their empoyees are what society would call bottom feeders. Where else could you go to work and not get canned for treating other people like crap over the phone. They dont give their real name, let alone their last name. These silly companies spring up all the time. Kinda a get rich quick type a thing. they pay employees to even go on these chat/complaint forums and they cant even keep there composure over a computer (as "nicky" & "ha" have shown us) These companies actually purchase debt from the banks or whoever for 60-75% of the debt price. thats why they are calling so much so they can get their 25-40% proffit. They even charge interest which is as I belive illegal because after the debt is purchased from the bank that meanpay off your debt interess the bank and yourself are no longer connected. There fore no intrest should be paid. The best thing to do (and i know its gonna really upset mjr & others) call the bank they can null the contract with mjr and others and they may also allow you to  pay off your debt interest free. But whatever you do, DO NOT answer any unknown or 877 #s.... Hope i could help.    OH! and sorry to "nicky" & "ha"

They collect for themselves....on acounts that have been lost by visa, banks etc...the banks sell them the files to try to make money for themselves, on what they might be able to achieve from going after the person.

All 3rd party collection agencies such as this one use illegal tactics and empty threats.  They cannot take your house away, they cannot garnish your wages.  Only the government can do that as well as a credit union such as Meridian, etc.  Know your rights and go here;  http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/source/regs/ ... gs_r06103_e.htm   -  In section 22 paragraph 6, you'll pretty much see everything that collection agencies do, and with that, you can go to your Member of Parliament and you have a case for a lawsuit if you record your phone call (which I highly recommend).  The only people who can send you to court is the original company you're indebted to, I.E. Visa, Mastercard, Royal Bank, TD, CIBC, Canadian Tire, whoever it may be.  They don't care what situation you got into to land yourself in debt.  In my own experience, I'm 28 and have been working since I was 14, and 3 years ago got laid off for the first time ever, and since then, have had a hard time finding work that isn't seasonal.  But they don't care.  GM gets a government bailout just like all major corporations who don't know how to use their money, but us regular folks are branded as the scum of the earth for falling into a bad situation; illness, job loss, even divorces cost a fortune and land people in debt.  There are solutions, however.  There are so many debt consolidation companies who are willing to help with debt situations so you won't be continued to be harassed by these companies.  Take those options, because it really doesn't go away, but those phone calls can if you talk to a debt counselor, it's what they're there for.  They're the good guys who want to help you... not make you feel like a pile of crap because you're in debt.

Called asking for someone who has the same last name but different first name.  Not sure if they are just randomly calling numbers looking for this person, or if they are a scam.  They left a message so I didn't get to speak to them in person.

I moved to a new city and got a new cell #. After about a month I got daily caller I'd blocked calls from mjr, I would get directed to a full voicemail box. The calls stopped for about a month but have started again. Not once have I been contacted by anperson, just an automated redirection to a full mailbox. I also tried emailing them but it did not stop the calls. I'm at a loss, it would be a pain to change
My call number again, especially over someone else's debt. Web if it was my debt, I have not been provided a chance to speak to anyone so how could I even pay if I did owe. Mybe I should stop by next time I'm in Mississauga.

I got a call from these guys last week. THey wanted me to send them a postdated cheque, and to call the next day with a expresspost number so they could track it. um, how about no.
I am in debt, and do owe money, but have been paying my money right to my card, and then calling the credit card to ensure they received the payment. They just called me again today, claiming he is going to start with the "employment verification process" , UGH
Its tough to know whats what, but they lost me at sending a post dated cheque.
I just started a new job and would be devastated if they contacted my employer, are they allowed to garnish my wages?? Its a strange feeling half of me says forget it, the other half thinks if I forget it will it come back and bit me in the butt?  Ill continue to make payments directly to my card.

They call every day, leaving message, looking for Sherry Lee. I picked up the phone once and told the girl that was a wrong number. They kept calling. Then every time I picked up the phone they transferred me to a voice mail. I left message requesting them stop calling. Obviously they ignored. The caller ID shows "Private Caller". Very annoyed. Any way I can block it?
