There are several correctional facilities throughout the United States that use Securus Technologies as their phone service. You can go to their website securustech.net or Google prepaid advance direct account. It will give you a list of all the facilities that use it as their phone service. If there is a possibility of someone you know being in jail (stupid things happen to smart people) you may want to set up an account. It is WAY cheaper to set up an account than to accept a call one time. There is a fee to add money on an account when you set it up (& yes I do think that is a crock but so is paying $9.99 or $14.99 PER CALL) but if you do end up having to take multiple calls, it is WAY cheaper to set up the account. You can close it and be refunded your money (less their fees of course) but...just a suggestion. And yes. When someone is arrested, they are sometimes able to call when they are arrested, which could be 11 pm or 3 am or whenever. At some facilities the inmates have access to phones at all kinds of weird times (which can be good and bad) so there could be a call at any time from them.  Hope this helps!

Oh! And the messages that are being left are not telling you that you are being charged when the message is left, it is exactly (part) of what you would hear if you had answered the call. It can't charge you without your consent. If you do answer the call, you should be able to hear who it is and if you don't know them or don't want to receive any more calls from that facility, follow the instructions. You can always unblock it later if you need to. It doesn't charge you to answer the call. It only charges if you give your permission by pressing whichever number it is when they give the instructions. I can't remember if it is one or not on this service. (Offender connect is another correctional facility phone service.) If you have any questions about this stuff, just reply on here to me. Unfortunately, I have some knowledge on the subject.

Received call on home phone at 12:14 pm on 1-3-2014. The caller ID listed this #  8777103334  The message began saying it was from the Harris County Jail  San Jacinto.  Then the message left was in all in Spanish; we have no clue what it says.

You may want to call Securus to see if they can help but the calls I have always gotten are in English. I wonder if someone has a wrong number. I don't know if the inmate chooses the language but it is the only time I have gotten a message that doesn't say to hear this in English press whatever #. I am betting someone has a wrong number in calling you. If you have picked up the initial call without accepting the call, the person calling you should say their name during the recording. The next time I get a call I will try to pay attention to when they say their name and let you know what to (possibly) listen for before they say the name. It will be the person that was arrested stating their name so you should be able to recognize the voice/name.

Received call on mobile but didn't recognize so didn't answer.  How are the inmates getting phone numbers?  Just dialing at random?

Received call; called number back and they have an option to permanently block your number from receiving calls. I don't know anyone in jail, so hopefully the block fixes it.

It is a free call from an inmate. I accepted the call about 30 minutes ago and it turned out to be my ex who wanted me to call his lawyer. I read some of the comments here and just wanted to let whoever is reading this that it is not a scam call. I just want to know where the call came from because I didn't get to hear that part.

I have had this number for 15 years and the only people who have it (legitimately)  are my employer and immediate family. Since all of my family live with me and I see all of them every night, I don't know how the !$#@% is calling me from jail/prison.  I ignored the number, they called again 15 min later; I continued to ignore it. Next day, they call 4 times in 3 hours. Third day 5 times in 6 hours. Today, 3 times in 3 hours.  I finally had to install a call blocker on my phone to stop the harassment.  VERIFY THE NUMBER YOU ARE CALLING, !@#$%. LEAVE ME ALONE!!!
