Got the same type of call. I have read a number of times before about the fact that SCAM calls are using this scheme. I even read that the jail-prison authority (guard, sheriff, etc) are pressing inmates to make calls to people they are not connected to. They say the call company gives a fee ( kick-back) to the institution and the authority in charge.   So right at the beginning of the call it said I was being allowed a 20 second 'free' call...I slammed down the phone. To Hell with them...LOL.

What is sad is if any loved one gets thrown in some scurvy-bum cop jail they will not get through to me.  What a scam... but it seems like so many things are BS and scams now. Law enforcement and the private Nazi prison system are not exempt from corruption...they can be the exemplar.

This is an Inmate phone calling network through correctional institutes, it is used in most states and most correctional facilities.  Inmates cannot call collect any longer they have to have prepaid stuff through this company to call out.

Nice , simple explanation Sandy, Thank you. I have done further searches on this phenomenon. One prominant political commentator states that the state or correctional facility get a "commission. PLease read this quote: "Why are the most captive and vulnerable being charged such brutal rates for a phone call? Because they can be. They have no choice in provider. The prison system cuts a deal with a telephone company that pays the state a “commission” — what the New York Times calls a “legalized kickback” — that ranges from 15 to 60 percent of the revenue. Thus, as a report by the Prison Policy Initiative details, state prison systems have no incentive to select the company with the lowest rates. Instead, the correctional departments gain the most by selecting the company that provides the highest commissions. - See more at: http://rainbowpush.org/commentaries/single/ki ... h.24lw9Gc9.dpuf"

Power and money are corrupting influences and quite blatant in this case. It is up to us to press our government representatives to oversee and control these greedy companies and even the individuals in charge of such institutions. This brings punishment to the family and loved-ones of incarcerated persons.... all for the greed of unethical business owners and state apparatchiks. It is time to correct this and remove the abuse.  Securus should be the first to be slapped with controls and limiting legislation.

In my case the calls in the last two days came from different individuals... obviously from the disparate voices. The last one said "Hi Baby, I cant talk long, sorry"...hahaha. I am not Gay and have no sugga-pie in jail. Ha! Possibly there's a quota for calls and revenue generation. This is an obvious, unjustified ripoff... even for those poor folks with family in jail,  much less the random "mark" or victim.

It is a company that has contracted with the state  and institution to provide these services. Apparently it is giving a "commission" to the authorities involved. So there is little incentive to rein-in the fees and those vary from place to place... but all seem to be high. There is a lot more to read online about this company and it's practices. Read the BBB report. And here a link to 'Consumer Fraud Reporting':http://www.consumerfraudreporting.org/jail_phone_scams.php

Looks like I am a target for the inmate call scam version. Several calls have come in each day for the last few days. I have alerted my phone company and will keep checking in with them for fraudulent charges. At that point I will contact my state attorney.... Texas. The company is located in Dallas. Although since the government is getting a 'kick-back' they may not do anything. Welcome to the New Order of things... the melding or corporate & government... The operative phrase was coined by Mussolini  "Corporatocracy".  It's becoming like the old Soviet Union... you must pay & payoff to get anything done.

Actually this is a legitimate service it's securustech.net cmc and it's how most jails and prisons are forced to reach their loved ones now. It's in many states including mine, Illinois. My fiance is in kendall county jail in yorkville illinois and I've been forced to use their scam of a service. 15.00 for 15 minutes here....and u can accept the 20 second free call it's just so the person can tell u who they are. Then after 20 seconds you're given the option to continue or hang up. I've found now another service thru conscallhome.com much cheaper 500 minutes for 25.00 instead of 1.00 a minute! Anyone with loved ones check it out! U can find other cheaper plans if u only talk once or twice a week. Good luck everyone

This is a phone service that inmates from MULTIPLE jails in MULTIPLE states can use to call loved ones. You can hear the inmate but not speak back.  It also offers you payment options if you DO want to speak to the inmate.  But it's not spam.

I have a friend in the Polk County Jail (Des Moines, Iowa).  Multiple phone lines/numbers are available there.   His calls don't always originate from the same number.   I suspect 877-710-3334 is one of these.

First call, I answered.  Heard a recording and hung up.  The calls continued.  I rejected the calls time and again, without answering.  I finally had to turn my phone off.
